My Shoulder-Grazing Bob Haircut

It’s Time to Save at the Sephora Savings Event

Without a doubt, this is my personal favorite length of hair. It’s quick and easy to style, I have options of different things I can do with it, and I love the look of a shoulder-grazing bob on me.

It’s cut on a gradual, slight angle getting a little longer towards the face. There is very minimal layering and a barely-there face frame as well.

I love this cut, but every time I do an angle or minimal layers, I have trouble with the ponytail, because it just doesn’t lay right! Any advice?

When you say minimal layers and barely there face frame, how would I explain that? Exactly like that?

yes but better than explaining by words, I highly recommend using a photo!

Hi Kate, I cut my hair into a bob recently, showed the stylist your photo from a while back. I did not get a haircut even close to your photos and description. My hair is cut very blunt. I have fine hair but lots of it. I need to grow it a wee bit so I can get it fixed. I will emphasize the minimal layers and face frame next time. It’s a real struggle styling it as it looks bottom heavy. Any tips? I haven’t had a bad hair cut in a very long time. Now I’m stuck with one for a little while.

I love your hair and love styles with no layering but I think the inverted, shorter length in back is somewhat dated. I rarely see that style on anyone now.

What I love about 2023 and being in my 30’s is not worrying about what’s in style. Hair should be what fits your face shape and your life style and what you like.

Hi Alison, so glad you like it! Kate has several tutorials on Instagram and YouTube if you follow her on either. Here is her most recent YouTube tutorial for the soft bends: https://youtube.com/shorts/mMnFLatwbTM

I absolutely love your hair! I showed my stylist your pic and got a similar cut. Not as short. I haven had my hair cut like this before and I am loving it!!

When you style your hair this length, do you always curl away from your face? Or do you alternate curls away from your face and toward your face? Also, you size barrel curling iron do you use most often?

Fantastic questions! Kate typically will curl the hair from her face to her ears away from her face. And then will alternate curls from her ears back. Does that make sense? She goes between 1.25 or 1.5 curling iron depending on the look she’s going for or uses her flat iron to curl some days as well.

Long time follower – can you show how you wear your hair for the gym? I am back into it at the gym and struggling to keep it all out of my face!

Kate says · 11.03.23

I just pull it back into a low ponytail, that does it!

How do you keep your hair from flipping up in the back? This happens to me all the time. Thank you!

Reply
Caroline says · 11.06.23

Thank you for this guideline! I just got my hair cut the exact way and I love it! The only thing I did differently was to have about 2 inches of an undercut where no one can see but me. I have either excema or psoriasis on my nape and it has cleared it up. Putting medication on it has been so much easier and the airflow has helped tremendously.

I just saw your story about Jeanette and her criticism of this style. Well I guess she hates mine too then 😄🤜🏼🤛🏼

I have admired your hair for a very long time. Love it! The cut, color and style. I have been trying to replicate it for a while. What are your go-to products and do you just highlight your hair every 7-8 weeks or so? Thank you! Kristin

This is my favorite style. I just can never get my front hair to grow thick/long enough no matter how gentle I am with it.

I’m 74…hair about your length but fine. Can I do this or will my aging face need more body as supposed to the flat iron. I love your hair..
