5 Items To Wear This Fall

I know many of us are struggling with fashion for this fall. I don’t know if it’s my age, the current trends, or the fact that it still feels like summer here in Raleigh but I have been uninspired when browsing the internet for fall fashion ideas.

I feel like there used to always be a classic middle ground look, but now it feels like two extremes: you’re either dated in skinny jeans or extremely on trend in baggy low-rise denim.

I’m on a mission to make some smart purchases and offer recommendations to those of you who are also struggling a bit with what to wear.

Here are a few easy, casual, and classic items of clothing to wear this fall:

Wide Leg Trousers — pair with mules or a low heel for an incredibly chic look.

Neutral Sweater Tank (or a top with delicate, feminine detail like an eyelet or a crocheted top) — a sweater tank is easy to layer under a structured jacket or blazer.

Gold Jewelry — layered necklaces and simple hoop earrings are the easiest way to level up an otherwise simple outfit.

Woven Bag — I love the texture of a woven bag, and it can go with so many levels of an outfit (from ultra-casual to dressed-up)

Casual sneakers — I love a simple tee, great pair of jeans, and a casual sneaker for every day. Add gold jewelry and bright lipstick to elevate the look.

When it comes to denim, I’m most comfortable in a straight leg that hits at my ankle. I’m 5’5” and sometimes feel like the full-length straight-leg denim shortens me. I’ve got a whole rundown of what jeans to wear this fall coming soon.

As far as my color palette goes, I’m still gravitating to all things green, and choosing softer, warmer tones like putty, browns, and creams for light neutrals. I’m seeing a lot of blue hit the scene as well, which is a color that works well with my eye color, so I’m happy about that!

I’m with you Kate! Everything for fall looks like something I already own (I don’t need any more sweatshirts, plaid shackets, or anything tan) and a lot of it is very unflattering. Loose baggy mom jeans add pounds and they don’t even look good on young girls who aren’t moms lol! Plus my husband dislikes anything big, wide or loose. I’m going to save a lot of money this season!!

I agree! I turned 31 this year and every thing in the stores looks like it’s for 19 year old Gen z. I think I’m ready to just be okay looking outdated and not in trend. 😂 I desperately need to get a new jacket for fall and can’t get behind any of the styles. I just want a long utility jacket that cinches at the waist circa 2015. Is that too much to ask for?! Especially being tall, all the cropped jeans, jackets, and shirts make me look like my clothes are too short.

I am excited to try my hand at new styles this fall. I am looking for the perfect pair of wide-leg pants and I am looking for new shoes to wear with my fall dresses.

Hi Kate, is the look you are wearing in the post linked anywhere? That is why I clicked on the post, but I can’t find it. Even if the item is sold out, I love that top and the color, so if you share the brand/style I could try to find it secondhand. Thank you.

Thank you for this post. I’m one of your older readers and I’ve been at a loss of what was on tend and appropriate and in style. I really need help with jeans. I’m a teacher and we are fortunate enough to be casual and wear jeans with cute tops.

I am a little behind on your blog but I would appreciate it so much if you could pass on where your blue blouse is from! It’s the perfect shade of blue, and it may be out of stock but I would love to try to add it to my own closet! <3
