We’ve reached the point of the summer where foundation just feels like too much. Frankly, the heat and humidity are oppressive. And I’m a foundation *lover* so this means I need to find a way to feel confident about my makeup without using a heavy base.
I’ve discovered a flawless combination of products that makes my skin look sun-kissed and healthy, and I don’t have to worry about sweating it off!
I found all of these at Sephora, my go-to beauty store, and I’ll walk you through why I love them below!
Before I started my makeup, I put a few bends in my hair with a flat iron. I didn’t want to use too much heat, but I wanted a relaxed, wavy style. I sprayed the Briogeo Superfoods Avocado + Kiwi Moisture Leave-In Conditioner throughout my the middle and ends of my hair and blow dried it. It’s extremely lightweight, which is important to me, and offers UV protection as well as conditioning to the hair! It also smells amazing!
I’ve been candid about the state of my skin, and while it’s still sensitive and prone to irritation/blemishes, I do genuinely like showing my bare skin and freckles when I can. A bit of NARS Creamy Concealer under my eyes and on any dark or red spots is the perfect way to cover areas I don’t love without feeling like I need to cover my entire face.
With this look, since I was skipping foundation, I wanted to still “set” the middle center of my face since I knew that would be prone to shine. I’ve been reaching for the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrushed Flawless Setting Powder lately (it’s fantastic at setting foundation for a full-makeup look) and it worked very nicely on bare skin. Don’t let the word “setting” throw you. It can be used to “set” foundation, and does a great job at that, but it can also be a really nice option for “barely there” coverage without adding much color to the face. It’s the kind of powder you can use to absorb oil from your skin, moisturizer, or even sunscreen.
I opted for a lighter brow product and grabbed the Benefit Brow Microfilling Pen. It’s so easy to use and looks very natural when I’m in direct sunlight. It’s a bit more understated, in my opinion than a brow pencil.
To add some life to my face I used the new Westman Atelier Mini Petite Lit Up Highlight Stick in Brûlée as a warm bronzer and in Nectar as a bit of a highlight. These products look so natural and radiant on the skin, I was amazed when I saw them in sunlight.
It made my face look like it was naturally sun-kissed!
For a wash of color, I used the Rare Beauty blush in Happy. This color is a strong pink so I blended it out to soften the intensity. It wears all day and adds such nice life to my face. Sometimes I think blush makes a bigger impact on “waking up” my face than mascara does.
To finish, I applied the new Fresh Lip Balm in Bloom to my lips. I’ve recently added the Papaya and Bloom colors to my collection and love them both! I was so excited about this launch that I did the same-day delivery option of the Papaya color the day they rolled out in store!
In this makeup look, I am wearing lashes because my eyelashes had a bad reaction to a different lash serum I had been testing. BUT if I didn’t have lashes on, I would have certainly done a swipe or two of the Tarte Tartelette Tubing Mascara.
The end result was exactly what I’d hoped it would be — a natural makeup look that helped me feel put together without a bunch of heavily layered products!
You can find all of these, and so many of my other favorites, at Sephora. And before you make a purchase, make sure to sign up to be a Beauty Insider! It’s completely free and allows you to earn points to use on samples or even money off a future purchase. You also stay in the loop of when Sephora does their savings events, which is worth knowing about!

During the hottest part of summer, I go with sunscreen, tubing mascara, and maybe a lip gloss. We don’t have central a/c that paired with taking my kids to soccer and swim lessons, means I can’t keep anything on my face. It all just melts off!

I love this look! Would it be possible to show how to apply the lashes and what type you use? I’m a complete beginner to lashes and I have no idea what to buy or how to use 🙂
Thank you!
Joan
Would it be possible to show how you did this makeup? I bought the products, but I must not be putting it the right place. It doesn’t look quite right.
Love your blog!
Hi Kate! Thank you so much for sharing this! I’m not a huge foundation girl but I didn’t know how to wear concealer without foundation until reading this. Since watching your instagram stories showing how you created this look I’ve been copying it and have gotten so many compliments when I do! Thanks for all you do! I’m a long time follower who knew nothing about hair or makeup until I started following you.
