There was a chill in the air yesterday. A CHILL PEOPLE. It was delightful. And I had some girlfriends over and we sat on the porch laaaaate into the night and it was perfectly chilly and lovely. So, naturally, I have fall clothes on the brain.

Yes, those are bootcut jeans that you see up there. I bought some. And they feel *so* weird but look pretty decent so I’m just going to wear them around the house for a bit before I bravely endure the public eye.

I look forward to layers and layers and layers in the fall and winter. And vests. And shoes that aren’t worn out sandals.

Perhaps some leopard print. #meow

And maybe a soft button up if I can pull if off.

The dress pictured is my dress dream come true and I would dress it down a bit if I ever got it. It looks soft and easy to wear, without looking like a huge sack dress.

And ear crawlers are my new way to spice up my jewelry a bit without feeling over dressed. I love how simple these are, and bought these a few weeks ago and wear them often.

So are you going to jump back on the bootcut trend with me, or leave me hanging? Please join me. I’ve seen full blown flares popping up as well but I can’t get back into that quite yet.

Despite my love for skinny jeans and them being oh-so-hot the past few years, I’ve always kept one pair of bootcuts in my closet. I found that there were always a few days, each winter when I needed to be able to wear tennis shoes or something besides flats because of snow or rain. I don’t think I’m fully ready to give up the skinnies and boots this winter, but I’ll back ya on the bootcuts.

I never understood the appeal of “skinny jeans.” Seems to only look decent on a very specific body type. Straight leg jeans looked better on curvy girls. However, I think a classic bootcut jean will never go out of style and is very flattering, especially on myself who has always been bigger on the bottom.

Never stopped wearing my boot cut jeans. I’m pretty stoked to see flare legs coming back though!

I’ve been toying with the notion of bootcuts as well:) Love that striped top!

Yes! It was so beautiful out yesterday! We went to the park and the farmers market with our toddlers. They loved all the pumpkins and gourds that were out already.
I love bootcut jeans especially with a fitted sweater and vest!

I’ve never been able to wear skinny jeans, so I never got off the bootcut jean trend lol. To me they’re sort of a classic cut if they’re flattering on you…
I’ve been dying to break out all my scarves again and I love the one you picked out above!

I never got *off* the bootcut train! Gotta balance out the..largesse, shall I say. It was 53 this morning and I loved every bit of it. Bring on fall!

So many of these pieces are currently on my wishlist!! I still have two pairs of decent bootcuts laying around because my boyfriend just loves them. I’m hoping I find a way to make them feel as polished as my straight/skinny jeans feel!

I am ready for fall!! I have a question about my hair because for the past several days I have a couple sections that will not curl. What can I do? I’ve tried spraying it with hair spray and then curling it again and leaving it for a bit ,but nothing is working.

Yay for bootcut! I used to be a Loft curvy bootcut girl, but lately their boots have seemed more like a baby boot. I did, however, just find a great bootcut pair at Old Navy. Their new curvy fit is wonderful!

I guess I’m not trendy, I didn’t think bootcut jeans ever became untrendy.

Aren’t they kind of a classic denim staple?

I love my bootcuts! Yes, I enjoy a skinny jean now and then… but my hubby hates them. So, my bootcuts have never gone out of style in my closet! I did recently get a pair of flares from a recent SF box to try, but sadly they were a bit tight and distressed. However, the box I’m getting this week has another paid of Flares in them… so we’ll see. I used to rock Flares back in the day… as in, high school and some college.
I, too, love Fall clothes… just the comfort that they give me. Although I love being able to throw on my sandals, I am excited for actual shoes. I love all the picks you selected and may have to add one (or two, maybe three) to my closet for Fall.

I’m dreading the full return of the flare, personally. The mid-2000s were a terrible time for my body type. I’m too tall for wide legged jeans. At least I can cuff straight jeans and it looks like they’re short on purpose. I’m envious of women who can pull off a wider legged pant. That grey dress looks just about perfect though and I am super excited for fall!

Noooooooooo! I don’t want to give up my skinny jeans eva!! Even though the hubby much prefers boot cut, I can’t seem to make them look as polished as my skinnys. I do still have two pair of boot cut in my closet so I guess I will be actually wearing these again sometime this winter, but I don’t like it!

It’s been about 65 degrees here in Tennessee lately, very crisp and cool. Fall is definitely in the air! I am loving it. I really want to get some leopard print shoes to add to my wardrobe this year, since leopard print can go with just about anything.

I bought two pairs of flares (yep, I got flares!) from Express recently, and I LOVE them! I have kept equal parts skinny and bootcut in my closet for the past few years and I am so excited to bring the flare back into my rotation!!

Leigh says · 09.14.15

I never realized boot cut jeans went out of style. I never gave them up! I love a boot cut. I’m on the fence on flares. I didn’t wear them the last time they were in style, so I don’t know that I’ll cave this time. However, I am firmly on the boot cut train. They definitely flatter my shape more than straight or skinny jeans.

Steph M says · 09.14.15

I’ve kept a pair of flare jeans in my closet for a few years, although they rarely come out. Skinnies suit me well, and I love that my cool shoes get shown off in skinnies. When I wear my flares, they cover the shoes up! What’s the point having cool shoes?

Reply
Kristi says · 09.14.15

It’s so weird for me to see huge flares again! I remember in elementary being so upset with my mom for wearing tapered jeans, and not getting me bigger flares. Funny how times change! I’ll probably still stick to my skinnies though, and wear bootcut occasionally, though it always feels strange to switch between the two.

I also never left the boot cut camp ! I have narrow hips and thin legs, but slightly wider shoulders and am super busty – skinny jeans are a huge no-no for folks shaped like I am! Boot cut jeans provide balance for my frame so I don’t look like I’m about to topple forward all the time :). I’ve learned that it’s so much better to wear clothes that flatter my build rather than being solely swayed by trends (though I’ve always looked longingly at skinny jeans, wishing I could pull them off)!

Essie Jean says · 09.14.15

I kept wearing boot cuts, even during the boyfriend and skinny trend – I did jump on the skinny trend, but boyfriend, not so much.
I actually just purchased a pair of super light washed flares, and I’m kind of terrified to wear them, because I feel like I’m in 11th grade again, but im going to try it and see…
I honestly don’t know what to wear with them, because last time they were in, all I wore was those little polo-style shirts from Aeropostale :0
I’m thinking maybe a fitted striped top, tucked in with a belt and long necklace? I’m excited to wear them with sweaters once really cold weather comes…

Many nice choices up there! I am very glad skinny jeans are out! They do nothing for women’s legs! Boot cut are the way to go. I have to say though I am not happy about the flare coming back – ugh!

I never got rid of bootcut either, just threw some skinnies into the mix when they became popular. And since skinnies aren’t for everyone, I think they’ll always be in then mix.

Reply
Debbie says · 09.14.15

I feel like I just accepted the skinny jean, lol, which to me seemed a ploy for me to buy different shoes (aka: flats), and/or different tops (lower, drapier, because, let’s face it, skinnies do not balance out the derriere quite like bootcut.) You know, the fashion industry out to get my dollars. I’m really just looking for something that fits in the waist and rear. Then I’m happy. I do definitely prefer pumps with straight let, not skinny. It’s just some weird preference of mine; I think I got it from being a conservative preppy in the 80’s:)

Chris says · 09.14.15

Well…I ordered a pair of bootcut jeans, we’ll see when they get here. But, I’m not giving up my skinnies! I love, love, love the look of skinny jeans. Bootcuts are always kind of “meh” to me and I loathe flares. So maybe, but I’ll be hoping the skinnies last a while longer.

Kelly says · 09.14.15

Kate I love it all! Also I love your blog! Being a no make up girl most of my life I’m a little behind in that department! I’ve never really felt like I needed make up before (too lazy & intimidated by it), but I’m a young mom of two under 3 & a little make up could go a long ways for this stay at home momma to make me feel more like a person. Have you ever thought about doing a make up must haves for beginners? Just starting my make up journey at 24 is a little scary with how many products are available! 🙂

Despite their popularity, skinny jeans are not flattering on most people. Boot cut jeans are a classic for a reason!

Reply
Kristin says · 09.14.15

I am also so happy to see the bootcut and flares back. Honestly, I think skinny jeans don’t flatter most people who wear them. I think that they look good on super skinny legs, but besides that, I feel that the lines of them just have a tendency to make ones hips and butt look big. So bring on the bootcut!

Reply
Anna says · 09.14.15

I’ve actually seen the flare a few places too and I’ve been thinking about ordering a pair of bootcut/wider cut jeans so your post prompted me to pull the trigger and order a pair!

I just bought a pair of skinny kicks from American Eagle a couple months ago. I can’t remember the last time I wore a pair of jeans that weren’t skinny. These look great on and since I’m short (5′) they don’t make me look like an Oompa Loompa.

I’ve never stopped wearing bootcut, but they seem to have gotten more flare like, and straight leg is so skinny. Wish there was a slimmer bootcut that didn’t flare so much. Then I’d be in heaven.

Try Anthropologie’s Pilcro Hyphen fit. I just picked up a pair and I love them (actually, one pair of jeans and two chinos, I love them so). On the website, they’re always styled with rolled cuffs, but I’m able to wear them unrolled and they’re a straight, slim leg that isn’t exactly skinny. I know Jean fit is different for everyone, but give them a shot!

Heather says · 09.15.15

I never stopped wearing boot cut! I think they’re more flattering than skinnies in general – they certainly are on me. I still wear skinnies, but I feel more polished in boot cuts and prefer them.

i would be SOOO glad to see bootcut and flares come back! i have never been a fan of skinny jeans for myself and get pretty frustrated trying to buy jeans when all anyone carries are skinnies! 🙂

Melissa says · 09.15.15

I refused to ever give up my bootcuts. They are the most comfortable jean out there! I don’t need my jeans “hugging” my legs, even if it is at the ankle… then that draws attention to my ridiculously skinny ankles! Boot cut-all the way!

On a side note, I’m meeting a real-life blogger in person for the first time EVER on Thursday! Allison Lumbatis from http://www.getyourprettyon.com. She’s a Christian blogger who inspires women to look and feel their best. It’s actually for a business meeting for my work and I can’t wait to hear what she has to say! Thanks for all you bloggers do out there to keep us regular people inspired every day!

Boot cut 100%! I have reluctantly worn skinnies, but never really been on board. They’re just never right in the winter, and I can never figure out what shoes to wear. Sometimes I need socks, yanno? I always had an underlying suspicion skinny jeans made me look squatty. (I probably needed petite.). I bought some designer boot cut jeans at Marshalls last winter and they’re like heaven after skinny jeans purgatory. I’m even looking forward to a little higher rise wherein I can maybe wear a belt without it looking so bulky. Ugh, the freedom to not worry that my underwear is always poking out. Pants that fit!

I will NEVER go back to bootcut. Like ever. I think that skinny jeans can be dressed up and look much better on my body. Long live the skinny jean! 🙂

I am in the full on flared jeans camp. I fell in love with them when I was in middle school. It took me a while to get into the skinny jeans trend, and even now I only wear them with tall boots in the fall. I am average heights with a pear shaped figure, and I believe that these jeans paired with a comfy wedge give me better height and proportion. I’ve been ‘out of style’ for quite some time, so imagine my surprise when seeing that flared jeans were “in” again! Everything really does come around. I hope you think about just TRYING flares and showing us, even if you ultimately decide against them. I’d love to see you take the leap!!!

I laughed at this too! Guess I’m just old but I never gave up my bootcuts, even though I have a couple of pair of skinnies. I JUST got some flares and I love them! Even my husband, who usually comments on nothing, said how much he liked them on me. Yay! Anyway, Kate – don’t be afraid to wear your bootcut jeans outside. Embrace the bootcut – they’re super flattering!
