Nap? What nap?
A Bump Nest Giveaway
Yesterday it was just me, David, and Murphy. Who is Murphy, you ask? That guy who made that law.
Never has a theory held true as much as Murphy’s Law. That and “what goes up must come down”, but I’m still on the fence about that one because my weight sure didn’t come down after I had David this year. Do you hear me Mr. Newton?
David had his 9 month check up at the pediatrician at 3:00p. He usually naps from about 1:45p-3:30p. He’s pretty darn consistent with his nap schedule other than days where he’s not feeling well or cutting a tooth.
The day was going smoothly, and since he had a great first nap, I thought I’d put him down about 10 minutes early for his second/afternoon nap. I needed to wake him up about an hour before his nap usually ends, so any little minute would help.
He was acting tired around 1:30p so I thought to myself, “perfect. yes. go to sleep little angel child who is cooperating perfectly with my plan. . .”
Somehow I managed to miss the RSVP card to the party he was throwing in his crib instead. I would have RSVP’d “no” anyway, so maybe he just wanted to save the hassle of a stamp.
Well, he threw a party all right. . . right up until 10 minutes before I had to wake him.
non-stop drool. teeth are droppin’ like flies around here.
The doctor appointment went well, and he was amazingly not as cranky as I thought he would be for the rest of the day. I think he got a “second wind” around 4:30p and he was pretty wild.
All things considered, the day wasn’t as bad as it could have been. I managed to whip up a batch of rice krispy treats too, so I’d even categorize it in the “good” category for that reason alone.

Your son is absolutely precious! What a blessing he must be.
He’s such a handsome little guy! Love seeing the pictures you post of him. 🙂
OMG that face! Too sweet for words.
As a mom to 4, I completely understand every word of this blog post. And I also found if I think they are going to sleep in the car on the way to a party or an appt it is guaranteed that they won’t. If I don’t expect a nap, they are snoozing before we get to the stop sign at the end of the road.
It amazes me how much a “good” day revolves around if my 7 month old daughter has taken her nap or not! Recently, we had a day where we were out and about all day long, totally not condusive to napping. After a 35 minute drive, I looked in my rear-view mirror as I pulled into my driveway, and yep – her eyes blinked twice and then stayed shut just as I put the car in park. Better believe I totes her into her nursery in the carrier, turned on the sound machine and squeaked as much out of that nap as possible!
He’s so sweet! I’ve been following your website for years, and as a mom to a 7th month old, I’ve been amazed at David’s napping abilities. I’ve tried everything under the sun (other than crying it out) to get my daughter nap trained with little success. I’m wondering if you have any tips to share, or if you were just blessed with a good napping baby! I hope your next little one is the same!
When my almost 5 year old daughter was a baby, her pediatrician asked me how she was sleeping and I just said…..ehhhhh. She told me I had to take control back and told me to put her to bed, let her cry for 5 mins, go in, pick her up and gently bounce/rock her in my arms with no words, put her back and leave. Go back in after 6 mins and repeat. Again at 7 mins, 8 mins, etc until she was asleep. The first night I think it took a hour or so, but as we continued on, it got less and less and she would peacefully go to sleep, probably after about two weeks or so. Your child needs to know you are in charge and he/she needs to be on a schedule. It’s not just for the kid, but for you too. It was the best thing that doctor could have told me to do. Totally changed my life, and sleeping for all of us!!! You have to be committed to it or it won’t work. I don’t know if it’s the crying out method or not, but it worked for me and I’ve had a good sleeper for a long time. Good luck!
Those pictures make me miss the drool way too much. 🙂
haha, I don’t think I will EVER miss the drool 🙂
What a little cutie! I can remember trying to get my little ones to those doctor’s appointments. Without a doubt there was always something that would come up to either make us late or myself a bit stressed. Love the pictures!

he is so freaking adorable!!! is it just me or does he look a little bit different in every photo/facial expression? same adorable cheeks though – ahhh!!
Seriously…he is adorable!!!
You’re so funny! I love your sense of humor 🙂
How can you be upset with such an adorable cutie! I’m glad I’m already pregnant, because those toothy grins are giving me baby fever! Can’t wait to meet my little girl in November 😉
Oh my goodness! I totally feel you. My girl is four months old and on Sunday instead of a 2-3 hour morning nap and a 1+ hour afternoon nap, she decided four fifteen minute naps during the ENTIRE day was what she wanted to do. Needless to say, we were both cranky, and I got nothing done. She returned to regular napping on Monday, and even seemed to take extra long naps to make up for her nap-free Sunday. Of course I was at work that day. Typical. =)
Ahhhhh what a cutie!!!!
My 3 year-old (who usually goes to bed at 7:30) stayed up in her room last night until 10 PM! It might as well have been 4 a.m. because that kid was a sleep deprived mess this morning. *sigh* Motherhood.
he’s so cute lol!!
Check me out…
xx

He’s so cute and those little teeth…love it!
OH yes, I remember those times- even though my son is now already 9 years old. I watched yesterday so many hair tutorials from you on YouTube, so I just had to check out your sweet blog. I can not believe I only found you now! You are so pretty and lovely. So glad, I found you. Kisses and keep on feeding your son! 😉 Sissi
absolutely great post!! which I must say you do take the cutest pics on earth of David 🙂 I am just jealous that you’re still in the two nap stage 🙂
Ha ha this sounds so familiar! They sure like to keep us on our toes right? 😉
He’s precious! I think he looks so much like you!
David has such a strong resemblance to you. Do your baby photos look identical?
Oh, Murphy…don’t I know him well!!! 😉
I know you didn’t ask for unsolicited advice, but have you tried an amber teething necklace on him before? I know a lot of people think its kinda hippy-dippy, but we’ve used one on my daughter and I feel like it really does work! Whenever we have taken it off for extended periods of time she starts to drool like crazy. Anywho, just a thought. 😉
I tried it actually and saw no change! He must be a seriously intense drooler 🙂
He.is.the.cutest.baby….ever!! As a mom of two, I love reading your posts on motherhood!! They’re my favorite!! I can tell you are writing from the heart. And amen to rice krispies treats!! I ate them by the PAN when I was pregnant with my first 🙂
My 6 week old daughter rarely follows my plans – especially when it comes to naps. Somehow she missed the memo that babies are supposed to sleep a lot!
I stayed home with my first child and I felt like all I ever did was try to get that child to nap, it was exhausting! I’m much better at working and only having to do bedtime 🙂 My second baby is a much better sleeper so i probably did that backwards, oh well!
they never follow the plan. EVER. He’ such a cutie. I took my daughter in for her 1 year check up yesterday…we skipped her morning nap…and then she got stuck 3 times, but took a great afternoon nap, thankfully!!
He is just SOOO cute.
He is getting to the age where he will drop to one long nap a day, usually after lunch.
I used to find it easiest to book doctor appts first thing in the morning (like 9am-10am). Baby was awake and happy and we got in and out before the doctor got backed up!
Why is it whenever you have plan they never want to go along?
Kate,
I just got home from work and was talking to my mom about her day and she told me she went to the park with my sister and met a girl who had a son the same as mine. We put the pieces together and figured out it was you! I regularly read your blog, and love seeing all your baby updates 🙂 Glad you ended up having a good day, my mom and sister enjoyed talking with you!

**same age
What a small, small world! My husband actually saw this comment and told me he went to SouthEastern Sem. with you! Your Henry is so, so cute! He was clapping and laughing in the swing, and David was just staring at him wide-eyed! Hopefully I’ll see you around the park sometime!
This guy right here is going to be a heart breaker one day 😉 he has such beautiful eyes. i can only imagine the amount of work you have to do with the drooling haha it’s always nice to read about happy family life!

He is so cute! You’re definitely my favorite mommy blogger!
Do you know about the Wonder Weeks? 9 months is a pretty prolific time for development growth & sleep/nap regression is common.
he is super duper cute!
omg, there are so many things about motherhood I would RSVP “no” too, haha. But there are so many sweet things as well!
I too have missed many crib party invitations as a mother of two boys. You may want to consider going to one longer nap during the afternoon now that he is around 9 months and I bet he will do better. So you will want that nap to be a little earlier, probably around 12:30 – 1:00. See if that works!
He is so cute! He made me laugh with that chunky little body of his. I could only wish I looked this adorable chunky. 😉
What a handsome boy David is! I always look forward to pictures of David, he is just so cute with those precious eyes and that big smile 🙂
What a sweet little face!
The baby is so cute, envy him for having such great skin.
He is THE MOST PRECIOUSFACE EVERRRRR. And I saw your comment about not missing the drool and AMEN AND AMEN. Despite what a lot of moms say, there are FOR SURE things that I will not miss. Drooling, spitting up, etc BE GONE.
Also, I wish my rolls looked that cute. Sigh.
Your pictures are beautiful! I just wanted to comment that my son did that often around that age.
