So for Christmas my mom bought me a few Julep nail polishes.
I polished my nails with “Layne” and immediately fell in love with it.
Not only is the color really feminine and pretty, but the polish formula goes on like a dream. It also can wear a little thick, which I like for my thin and flimsy nails.
So I went online to check out more colors and discovered they are a monthly beauty subscription service (like Birchbox). I decided to give it a shot for a few months and see what I think.
My first box arrived about a week or so ago and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! There were more beauty products than nail products, but I think that was due to my “theme”, which is Modern Beauty.
The lip gloss is a really pretty pink (named “Charming“) that works well with my skin tone. I liked the consistency of the liner as well!
The nail product I did receive is the Julep Freedom Polymer Top Coat. I used it once and thought it was fine. It’s hard to top Essie’s 3-Way Glaze in my book.
I have yet to use the “Blank Canvas” mattifying face primer.
I’ll keep reviewing my boxes as they come here on the blog. So far, I’m quite pleased!

I use Julep Maven as well, Modern Beauty is either mostly or entirely beauty products. If you want the company for it’s polish, I would change to Classic with a Twist or It Girl.
I’ve been using them for about a year and have actually been skipping months because I’ve just got too much polish at home!

You can also choose which box you get. They will email you with a preview (usually on the 20th of the month) and if you don’t like what’s in the box, you can choose a different Maven profile. One month I didn’t like the colors offered, so I got a bunch of different nail-products (a cuticle oil, cuticle eraser, and drying drops). I’ve been a fan so far!
Yes, Laura is correct on all counts. I subscribed for 6 months as a promo Good Morning America thing, and at the end they just dumped me…no attempt to get me to sign up again or anything, which I thought was interesting (?) customer service. But, honestly, it was a blessing, as there is no way to use polish that fast. (They were just coming out with the box you’re signed up for, which I would have loved.)

I love Julep’s Maven program (I’ve been a subscriber since the launch). After your first box, you should receive a preview of your box each month and they give you the option to switch to a different style (so you really get to pick exactly which polishes or products you get that month), or you can skip a month entirely (which I absolutely LOVE because I don’t end up wasting money on polishes or whatever that I have dupes of already in my collection). They win the award in my book of being the most satisfying subscription because I always know what I’m going to be getting with my money.
I love that feature as well! I didn’t like the color options the other month, so I picked the cuticle oil, cuticle eraser, and quick dry drops and love all of them!
You can actually no longer skip if you are a new subscriber – they cancelled that option for those who signed up after December 18 🙁

My first box is coming in today! I like that they have a tracking app that texts me when the box changes location. Especially since our apartment complex has yet to figure out that actually locking the street door keeps things from getting stolen. D’oh.

I received my first Julep box about a week ago as well. Received 2 polishes and the face primer, and the cuticle stuff. I love these polishes… and i’m a total Essie person myself. My first birchbox arrived today, cannot wait to get home to see what’s in it.
I’m a Boho Glam girl! The Blank Canvas is really nice, but I still like The Porefessional or Bare Essentials Primer better. Julep’s Oxygen Nail Treament is uh-mazing! Try it if you get the chance!

I’m Classic with a Twist! But every so often, I change my box to be It Girl or Boho Glam depending on the colors. I’m more into nail products than beauty products, so I like that you can switch it up every month between the 20th and 24th before they send it to you! You can see what the colors/products are for each box and decide what you want for you.

FYI I did the trial box and there isn’t anywhere to cancel it. They did not send me any notification that I was still getting charged and then I saw it on my card charges so I called and they wouldn’t refund! It was terrible terrible customer service. So just to be aware, they were not helpful or nice to work with.
When you signed up and put in your credit card information, did you not realize that you were signing up for a subscription service? Also, it says right on the FAQ page that you need to call to cancel the subscription.
Cont’d: they said they have a window you can cancel in but they didnt send me that email or any other email and so I had no clue. My products were also terrible and therefore I got charged $20 for another terrible box with no refund. Ugh. Birch box has been AMAZING though.
One day, I will get boxes. 🙂 🙂

I recently started with the Julep Maven subscription and I absolutely love it! I’m also a big Essie fan, so I just use a little of both! 🙂 One of my favorite things about Maven is that you don’t necessarily have to change your beauty profile, but you can just substitute things out of your monthly box. My profile is BoHo Glam, but I can choose to swap any of the three things out, for any of the other styles, and they don’t have to be the same! One month I did two “It Girl” polishes and a “Modern Beauty” lip color. I started out with one polish, one pedi cream and lip color. So I love how many options they give you!
