Fall Bags

Dolman. And that is not my baby’s name.

I’ve been jonesin’ for a new bag lately but I haven’t been able to bite the bullet on one. I think part of my hesitation is not knowing how much I’ll carry my diaper bag around versus wanting a dedicated purse.

I’ll figure it out in a few shorts months.

In the meantime, I’ve gathered up a few of what I think are some pretty snazzy purses to carry in the fall. You may notice a repetitive theme among them : neutral colored. I find neutral colored bags to be so versatile. It can go with nearly anything in my wardrobe.

For now, I’m carrying my Philip Lim bag from Target. It’s slightly on the large side, but I love the way it looks.

Are you a seasonal purse changer-outer? Or do you stick with one bag for a really long time?

Loving the Kate Spade bag. Of course – the one that is definitely not in the budget right now, lol! I am a big neutral bag fave and tend to carry one bag for a few months before I switch out for another. When I had my son, we chose a very cute, neutral (gray) J.J. Cole diaper bag that I could carry instead of a purse. But for some reason, I still just prefer a purse. So whenever we go anywhere, I have the purse and the diaper bag!

Unless you already have a diaper bag that you like which is highly likely, so many women today just carry oversized purses that double as diaper bags and purses. Just a thought 🙂

I hardly ever carried my own dedicated purse in the first two years, so I bought a purse-like diaper bag and carried it everywhere! http://www.skiphop.com/product/studiodiapertote.html

When I had babies, I used to solely carry my diaper bag. Inside I kept a clutch-type wallet with my money, cards, phone, lip balm, etc. That way if I was dashing out without the kids, I could just grab my clutch and leave the diaper bag behind.
Now that my kids are older, I carry MICHE bags…you can change the outer shell and the handles anytime you want a new look. They are addicting, so much so that I started selling them!

I have a Miche purse too. I love it! And they had such great sales around Black Friday time last year, I stocked up on some shells at amazing prices!

I used a diaper bag for the first few months. Once you get to know your baby you’ll figure out what you actually need versus what you think you need lol I bought a little toddler backpack that’s my sons dedicated diaper and toys bag and I carry a purse too. It’s easier to keep things separate in case you’re running into a store and your baby is asleep so your hubby stays in the car. We had so many events similar happen when I only had a diaper bag and I was left juggling my wallet and phone plus whatever stuff I needed to buy at the store. Haha sorry this is such a crazy long post. I over explain. 🙂

What I do with my twins is stuff the bare essentials in my purse and leave a loaded diaper bag in the car. When we are just going in to the store, I have what I need: a couple of diapers, a diaper trash bag, a burp cloth, a small wipes case, a changing pad, and maybe a couple of toys or books. All of these are neatly contained in a wet bag (that matches the changing pad of course). The wet bag doubles as a place to put soiled clothing if the need arises. I bought mine here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/modmomME. At home I have several loaded diaper caddies that I bought here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/BaffinBags. They contain just about everything you would want from a diaper bag so I don’t have to bring my bag in and out of the car.

Cute bags! I carry Thirty-One exclusively, both because I love their styles, and because I’m a consultant 🙂 the one I’m using now is called a Casual Cargo Purse, and I’ve heard of alot of people using it as a diaper bag. My youngest is still in pullups, so it’s great for me!

I am a seasonal bag changer. Still carrying my summer purse because it is a Brighton burnt orange/navy print. I will go to a dark bag once November arrives. I really like the last bag. What is the brand? I have become a handbag snob (hopefully in a good way if that is so) because my tastes always veer toward the spendy side and I am usually not satisfied until that is what I have.

I stick with one bag for a really long time . . . I almost never like my purse, but I received a perfectly-perfect Coach bag as a gift and will never buy cheapo-purses again. And by cheap-o, I mean like, under $20. I am thinking number 5 on your list is the perfect bag at a great price.

Wait, changing purses is a seasonal thing? I may be the one crazy person here, but I change purses ALL THE TIME! I’ve been doing it since High School. Sometimes I change it out once a week and sometimes I go with the same one for a few months, but it’s never really consistent with the seasons, per se. I’ve found that it’s a fantastic way for me to keep my bag from getting too junky – if I’m constantly switching it out, old papers and stuff are consistently getting thrown out 🙂

You should just use a large purse or tote as your diaper bag. I did (still am) with BOTH of my children). I got a cute neutral tote from H&M and I am amazed at how well it has taken the beating it has received over the past couple years. Also, it is way cuter than any diaper bag I have seen. We also used an L.L. Bean backpack on busy days or when my husband took over since it looks much more masculine.

I am definitely a “one purse forever” kind of girl. Lately, I tend to buy funkier purses, and then I usually run them to the ground. It may not “match” my outfit, per se, but I think that’s what I love about purses in the first place. They seem to be one of those accessories that don’t need to be so matchy, but they can give that extra “pop” through their pattern, color, etc.,.
In my experience with my 3 kids, diaper bags can be handy because they have those ever-so-convenient pockets to store everything, but I really do prefer just to use a larger purse instead. A lot of purses come with the storage space that’s necessary for carrying all the essential baby things, and they’re cuter, too – in my opinion.

I normally use either one of my 31 bags or a Vera Bradley purse. I don’t really care if it matches my outfit (i’m a teenager 😉 ) but it has to be crossbody!!
I think Vera Bradley sells a purse that can be either a diaper bag or a purse. I’m not sure what it’s called but I know I’ve seen it before 🙂

I am a beyond picky purse lady! It has to have X number of outside pockets, inner pockets, feel right, and a million other things for me to take the plunge. I’ve been known to carry ONE bag until the bottom falls out ha! I just can never seem to fall in love with any bag I see! I’m sure my husband is thanking me.

I had a Vera Bradley baby bag for my diaper bag which was cute enough to use as my purse too, when I wasn’t carting my pump bag around to work, that is! I splurged on a cute new purse once my daughter hit 13 months.

When I had my baby, my diaper bag became my purse; I personally couldn’t stand carrying around multiple bags at the same time! Once I went back to work it was even worse between a laptop bag, purse, and bag for all my pumping gear! I’m now pregnant with our 2nd, due right before you (I think) on 12/5 and have stopped myself from spending the money for this very reason!

I’ve always had a dedicated purse. I am a woman who carries everything but the kitchen sink, so to go without my purse would seem crazy. I like to know that my purse always has the essentials I need and so does my diaper bag. I am afraid the extra step of moving things from purse to diaper bag and back would leave me running out of the house (sans kids) and realizing I left my wallet in the diaper bag.
And I know some women just get by with a tote instead of a diaper bag, but when you and Baby are covered in a poop explosion in public, those little pockets are so worth having so that you know exactly where each thing you need is located! 🙂

#1 and #8 Please!! I hardly carry my diaper bag at all. My son just turned 1 year and I hardly carried it at all in the first year. I would stick it under the stroller or leave it in the trunk of the car. I still carried my regular purse the entire first year. I like having my things separate:)

Ooooh! Numbers 3 and 4 are my favorite. I carry bags forever. But I really want to learn from those who change out purses often. Are they using bags to separate everything so you just have to pick those up and move them to the new purse? Or are they moving individual items one by one? Teach me the ways!!

Haha, don’t fall for diaper bags!! You’ll use it for a few months, and then want to carry something that doesn’t scream “BABY” all the time. Trust me! Just find a big fat jumbo Mary Poppins purse with lots of storage pockets, and be a stylin’ mom right from the start. You’ll be great!

My girlfriends pitched in for a really nice diaper bag of my choosing since I’m a purse girl which I use pretty much everywhere I go with my son. However, I still have a dedicated purse for when I go out without him. But to make the transition easier, all the things that I would normally carry in my purse are organized in little clear cosmetic type zipper bags so all I have to do is grab them and my wallet, toss them in my purse, and I’m out the door in under a minute. I also have a cheap bag (the one I got from the hospital) that I keep in the car for when he goes in the church nursery or something like that. Just big enough for the things the nursery expects him to have. That way, I don’t have to leave my big bag, which is basically my purse when I’m with the boy, in the nursery.

my husband got me a Coach diaper bag it’s gorg! I still get compliments on it. I use it as a bag/diaper bag/over night bag..anything. It’s different colors of brown on the outside and a sunny yellow lining – it’s great! I know what you mean about a “diaper bag” some are very babyish…bleck. But a Coach or another designer’s diaper bag are usually a great buy!

I was never able to get into a diaper bag. I used one for a week I think and then just ended up throwing a couple diapers in my purse. I ended up just leaving a tote bag with wipes, toys and baby/toddler snacks in my car.
