Noticing the Moments
Warm it Up
I had this moment the other day as I sat on my office floor cleaning out my closet. I came across this journal I wrote from the time Justin and I began dating until our first Christmas as a couple. It was about 2 1/2 months and I documented all of our significant moments, along with just the day to day events.
I turned to a page dated November 4th, 2006. I wrote, in great detail, about the night Justin told me he loved me. It was dripping with sappiness and romance. I flipped ahead and read about when we started talking about getting married.
And I took this brief pause.
There I sat, pregnant with our first child, reading a journal I wrote 7 years ago to this guy I really liked, packing up our townhouse in order to move into our very first purchased home.
It was such a crazy realization to look back and see the many, many blessings God has graciously given us.
And I’m glad I took a moment to appreciate this wonderful time in our lives.

🙂 You’ll have many more moments like that to come! This was so lovely, Kate.
Love this post. So happy for you and this exciting time in your lives! Praying for your family and many more happy moments to come =)
How cool is that? A time when you’re hit with warmth and your heart swells from gratitude. It’s so refreshing when this happens, and it really helps to minimize the stress we have daily.
I’m happy for you, my dear.
What a beautiful moment and realization! Love this!
Lovely. I’ve learned that my journals help me to look back and see God’s hand. In those times, I couldn’t always see it. But having the perspective of hindsight right there, I just marvel. Those moments of reflection are humbling and awesome (in the traditional sense).
I love this. Makes me want to go find my old journals and plant myself on the couch to read them. I need to pause more and take time to look back at memories.

What a treasure to find!
How sweet. 🙂 This inspires me to write in my journal. I used to keep one on the computer up until we got married, and then stopped. I keep thinking of starting again, but never have. It’s been three years, and we have two kids now, and I wish I had written more.
What sweet memories?! I know I often times live in today only and what struggles I may be facing or simply living for the future. But I’ve learned recently that it is crucial to realize your past, learn from it and count all the blessings that you’ve received over the years. It really gives you a different perspective on life today. Makes you (well at least me) appreciative for the breaths I’m taking now and for the plans God holds for me because clearly he has always blessed me and has always worked everything out for the my good. Thanks for this post today, Kate.
Love those moments! Memories like that are why I keep boxes and boxes of old letters… probably unnecessarily. One of these days I’ll purge them (maybe if/when we move), but in the meantime I love going through every couple years and remembering how I felt when I received them. And to recognize, as you did, how God works in our lives. It’s amazing to look back and see His faithfulness!
Aw, what a difference a few years makes! Congrats!

What a sweet treasure to find 🙂 Loved hearing this little small story…
I am so glad you have that journal to treasure. I have never been a person to journal but sometimes I wish I did so I could look back at what was going through my head at different points in my life. However, I have a box with notes my husband and I wrote to each other over the years and I was cleaning out my closet the other week and found it. Brought back so many memories!

Thanks for reminding me to stop and treasure my blessings today 🙂
Nice reminder this morning. I keep a journal for each of my boys documenting accomplishments, moments, and memories. Sometimes I just write about how cute their toes are or something else silly. It is fun to go back and read how things changed from month to month.

oh wow, what a special keepsake you’ve stumbled upon. everything really does boil down to time and circumstance and I truly do believe that you came across your treasured journal at just the right time. Enjoy all of these exciting times!
Love this! Such a precious moment and how wonderful that you have that journal with those special moments documented. So important to take those moments and thank God for all our blessings in life 🙂
Beautiful Love Story…we could all use the reminder to inventory all ofhte things we have to be grateful for and have been blessed with and by!!! Love when you post these little thoughts and heart notes!!
I love finding that sort of thing, it’s like discovering treasure isn’t it.

Keep a journal when baby comes! I started one right after Dez was born & documented all the new things he did each month, along with weight, length etc…
When he is older he will love going back & looking at his milestones.
I love packing up and moving. You find special things like that, they make you stop and think. Pictures especially. That happened to us when we moved after 30 years in the same place. Oh the pictures of the 4 children growing up……MEMORIES! Your’ve only just begun!!!! Enjoy!
Isn’t it great to reminisce the romantic history of you and your loved one?! I think it’s great to look back and see how it all started, see what good and bad times you’ve been through and then see where you are in current time. Great post and so glad you are always open to sharing about your life!
This is so special! What a moment!

That is so sweet. 🙂 I wish I had done that when my husband and I were dating…although he was across the country almost the whole time we were dating. So happy for you and Justin!

Those are the moments that make time stop and you forget any stresses in your life. I used to be an avid journaler (is that a word?) and it’s fun to look back.
On another note, 11/4/06 is the day I married the love of my life. Apparently it was a great day to be in love!
so sweet. this is why i love journaling. 🙂 anis nin says “I write to taste life twice.” isn’t that so true?!
I did the exact same thing when my husband and I started dating! I saved a special journal to use for the time I thought I met the right person and I did – hopeless romantic

Love this post. Sometimes it’s all about those little moments in our life when we look back and see how far we have come 🙂
that’s awesome 🙂
Goose bumps! 🙂
LOVE this post! Thanks
Gosh are we on the same brain wave or what?! I was cleaning out the nursery closet this past weekend and found a letter that my now husband wrote to me about five years ago – it was the first letter he had ever written to me and I was moving away at the time so it was one of those “don’t read this until you get there” letters and I cried! I’m blaming it on the hormonal changes of pregnancy but it was cute – ha! And I have a tendency to keep all of my old calendars so I was looking through them and realized I wrote down the weirdest things. I told Hubs that if he ever wanted to know when he fell and hurt his pinky, I would probably have it written down. Or the day he bought his truck, or the day he got his bow and arrow, or the day we argued about spaghetti? Funny stuff. =] And it is crazy!! Five years ago I was moving away and here we are, back together, married for almost two years and having our first child! Eek!

Such a special moment! I feel like that would be so amazing to stumble upon. Maybe I’ll start journaling more.
Kate- every time you post a story regarding your life timeline, I am amazed how similar we are! I was born a month before you, I married my husband a week after you, and hilariously enough, we began dating in 2006 during the same season as you! We are preparing to move into our first purchased home like you. Thank you for being so incredibly relatable to me! I love hearing your stories cause I’m always thinking, Yep, that’s me too!
