Discovering your Style Statement with Lauren from SimplyChicMom
Modern Fabric Studio Giveaway//closed
I’m so glad Lauren, from Simply Chic Mom, is here today sharing tips and suggestions for discovering our own personal style statements. She first shared this concept with me a few weeks ago, and it has really helped me narrow down what I look for when I shop!
Take it away Lauren!
Thanks to several inquiries, I wrote this post to help you develop your own personal style statement!
A style statement is a 2-3 word phrase that encapsulates what your style is or what you would hope it to be. This statement helps you to shop according to your taste and allows you to narrow down options. It can also aid in you finding style icons to be inspired by (who share similar tastes) which can allow you to piece together items that you already own to create new looks!
*My sister-in-law, fashion blogger, helped me develop mine!
For example, I tend to love feminine, floral, comfortable, textured, simple outfits.
My style statement is Pretty Chic.
My style icon is Clemence Posey, a french actress who shares similar loves. I often get outfit ideas from her.
This style statement allows me to ask myself two questions when I go shopping:
a) Does this item fit in my Pretty Chic wardrobe?
b) Do I already own something too similar to this item?
So, now you try….choose some words that describe the clothing you are drawn to (on yourself or others) and develop a style statement! If you need help, contact me!
Thrifting tips coming soon!
I don’t know about you, but I am ready to shop! And Lauren helped me figure out my style statement, which is classic & solid (I know. . . not nearly as nice sounding as “pretty chic”) and now I stick to it when I shop!

I love the third outfit. Very nautical inspired.
Such great tips! I can’t wait to take inventory of my closet and get to shopping 🙂
This comment doesn’t have anything to do with today’s posting. But I HAD to let you know that my aquage uplifting foam came in the mail yesterday and today was the test. HOLY MOLY! My hair is the size of Texas! I LOVE IT!!! I have natural curly hair but like to tame it with a curling iron or flat iron but it seemed to lose it’s umpf! NOT NOW!! 🙂 A male co-worker even commented on it today!! 🙂
I will be spreading the word on how good this stuff is and thanks to you for the recommendation and will continue to tell my friends about your blog! love love love your hair tutorials – Liz McNeil
I think I share a pretty similar style. I am going to start shopping thrift stores for clothes and save my money for boots, shoes, accessories. I think that you should spend more on those items. Thanks for sharing!
I would just like to say that I am 54, soon to be able to order off the senior menu, and I love your blog! I have recently lost 32 lbs and feel young and ready to look good. I styled my hair with your curling iron technique and I flat ironed my bangs yesterday:) My 25 year old daughter inspires me to feel good about trying new things.
Thank you for you sweet things:) I am a classic and solid girl too! Woops, old gal!
So who is your style icon, Kate?
Just have to say, I have the sandals in the 2nd photo and they have been my favorites for YEARS!! Always get compliments on them and I am gonna keep wearing them till they fall apart. Wish they would make them again.
Love this post. I’ve been trying to figure out what is my style, I never stick to anything. And just grab what I think will go and half the time it doesn’t. I’m now going to stick with one style and go with it.
I love your blog and have been checking it out since I found you on Pinterest a few months back! Today I just started following you (finally)! Anyway, I just read your bio and found out what an amazing Christian you! Thank you for being so open and strong about your faith, I love it!
Love this. feel since I have had kids I don’t have the style I use to have. I just need a style icon!
I love this!
I have such a hard time narrowing it down though.
I love to be trendy and be up to date on new styles.
I also love to be formal and professional.
But I also really love being chic and bohemian.
I can not stick to just one or two! How do you narrow it down even further?
I am about to turn 35 and feel like I am just now finding my style!! I do not know what to call it though. 🙂 I am not nearly as cute as she is, but I love Lindsey’s style from the Pleated Poppy. I love scarves, ruffles, ballet flats and cardigans…i love to dress up a pair of jeans with a ruffled tank, cardigan, scarf and cute pair of flats. Anyone know what that would be called?? Ha!! Thanks! I enjoyed this post!!
