Do you use Vitamin C serum?

next
A simple plaid top

Vitamin C serum is one of those products that I knew I should be using years ago but I never started. I think it fell into the category of “I’m not sure I’ll actually see a difference using it” so I never bothered.

After my facial in August, my esthetician recommended a serum that had vitamin c along with a few other ingredients in it and I really liked it. The smell was slightly off putting, but in general I felt like it hydrated my skin and made it feel a bit tighter and firmer.

Shortly thereafter, I received a mailing from Ole Henricksen and in it was the Truth Serum, which is a serum packed with Vitamin C and collagen for brightening and hydration. I decided to give it a try for about a week, in place of the other serum I was using, to compare the two.

Almost immediately I noticed a huge change in the moisture level of my skin. And within about 2 weeks my skin started looking more firm, younger, and the tone was more evened out. It’s rare that I see results from a skincare product this fast and I was amazed.

So now, about 3 weeks into daily (morning) use, I can’t imagine not using this serum. It’s been a game changer for my skin. By the end of summer I was dealing with some dryness and extreme irritation around my nose, and that is almost completely gone. The serum sinks in deep and I can almost feel it working! I know that may sound dramatic but it has truly made a huge difference for me!

The Truth Serum comes at a high price tag, but I’m wondering if you have one that you love that may cost a bit less? I seriously love this one, but would love to also find one at a lower price point.

I also was going to recommend Timeless…they make great serums at an equally great price. Make sure you keep your serum in a cool, dry, dark place to avoid oxidation. You can also store it in the fridge as well which will definitely make your serum last longer.

The Ordinary line is incredible! Love love love their nonirritating retinol and vitamin C. I’ve tried very expensive lines like Skinceuticals and this is on par with them. It has made a huge difference in my very sensitive skin.

Reply
Michelle says · 09.20.17

I’ve been using the daily moisturizing cream from the same line and really like it. It does have a citrus smell which I had to get used to, but I have noticed a difference in the brightness and feel of my skin and was thinking about adding in the truth serum. At 38, however, I really want something to help with fine lines and wrinkles, especially around my eyes. Does anyone have any recommendations on products that really work that are outside the Olay family? I was an user of Olay since I was 14, but had to stop using their products since they test on animals, specifically Beagles. I’d love to find a cruelty free product that works! Thanks!

I have used philosophy’s when hope is not enough (WHINE) serum for years. To save money, I get the giant bottles from QVC. I can totally tell when I don’t use it. I go through seasons of using it morning and night but mostly use it at night. In the winter when it’s so dry inside, I tend to put it on before my moisturizer in the morning too. I love it!

Now, I don’t even know how it fits in to my desire to use less toxic ingredient products. Sigh.

Check out a new company that’s blowing up in popularity. Deciem produces the Ordinary line. They can’t keep their products in stock and have opened stores all over the world. They may not be in the US but you can order online. They were just bought out by Estée Lauder. They have a vitamin C cream with hyraulanic acid that’s just $5.80 CDN. It’s a small tube but lasts forever. All of their products are cheap becasue they refuse to do fancy packaging and as a bonus, no animal testing. I use their Cold Pressed Rose Hip Oil for moisture. Another product I love is by Mad Hippie. Their Vitamin C serum is organic and I purchase it at Whole Foods in Canada.

I know you’ve not been impressed with Rodan+Fields in the past, but I’ve gotta throw in some love for the Reverse regimen here!! I just wrapped up breastfeeding my now one year old, so I haven’t been able to use the regimen since pregnancy/bf-ing (doctors orders). BUT, I just started it back up, and the step 3 is a vitamin C serum that combines with a retinol serum that go on like a dream!!! Step 1 is an exfoliating wash, step 2 is a brightening toner, aforementioned step 3, then followed by either the step 4 sunscreen for AM or nightcream, if desired, for PM. The regimen targets skin discoloration, dullness and even fine lines and wrinkles thanks to the retinol. I’m so happy to have this with the vitamin C back in my routine. I can tell a HUGE difference already.

BUT I’ve been using the retinol consistently and amazing changes. I recently bought about 10 more products, including foundation and primer. I have not been let down, nor broke the bank!

You have got to try out Rodan and Fields New Active Hydration Serum! It’s not packed with vitamin C, but it does what moisturizers can’t do. It pulls the moisture from the air and keeps your pores open unlike moisturizers that cover your pores to keep the moisture you have on your skin already there. It’s oil free so it will not cause breakouts. I’m a huge fan of the Reverse Brightening Regimen which is packed with Vitamin C. Brightening your skin to a natural glow and making it even tones. Buy them together until September 28th and you will get a free mini regimen. Godsend for traveling.

Hi Kate! Love your blog.

I have been using SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic Serum for several years now. My dermatologist recommended it and it is a game changer. The only problem is the very steep price at $165/each. My husband started school full time again so we are down to one income. I had to find a substitute so I switched to Timeless C + E + Ferulic Serum ($25/each). I still prefer the CE Ferulic, but I don’t plan on going back to it. Once I adjusted to the formula I have nothing but positive things to say about it. Seriously, my skin is glowing and I’m 36 with two toddlers that don’t let this Mamma rest. Nice to see another recommendation so thank you!
