My favorite mid-day drink: homemade iced latte

Housekeeping Routines: tackling kitchen clutter

Welcome to one my favorite spots in my house! I love this little coffee room! It has come together nicely and it’s a much better option for my house than having a formal dining table.

I may be the only one who drinks coffee, but I drink enough of it to make an entire room dedicated to it make absolute and total sense.

Okay, I may have to justify it from time to time, but we had nothing else to put here so I happily just decorated it around the coffee bar!

I typically start my day with a hot cup of coffee with a splash of half & half. I used to be a die hard vanilla coffee creamer gal until I read the ingredients on the package and was repulsed. I switched to half & half and never looked back.

I love treating myself to a homemade iced vanilla latte in the middle of the day. It’s usually during nap time when I’m catching up on housework or e-mails, and it gives me a boost to keep my energy up until the end of the night.

My “recipe” is really simple, but could not be achieved without my Nespresso Citiz & Milk. I love this machine so much! I typically purchase the espresso pods on Amazon, these are the favors I like! I like using Roma and Ristretto when I make latte’s because they are a bit more intense than some other flavors.

To start, I fill a glass about half way up with ice. Then I’ll choose the larger of the two options on the machine, which I’m pretty sure equals 2 shots of espresso.

After the espresso is finished, I’ll squeeze 1 pump of Starbucks Vanilla syrup into the glass. I like to think the the warmth from the espresso helps mix the flavor in but I don’t actually know if that’s the case!

I’ll froth the milk on the cold setting for iced lattes, and obviously choose the hot/steam option for hot drinks. The frother works so fast and gives such a nice amount of foam.

It takes just a minute or two to cool down to a nice chilly temperature and then I drink it! It tastes almost exactly like an iced vanilla latte that I would buy at Starbucks but it’s better because I don’t mistakenly get served the skinny vanilla syrup which tastes like literal poison NOR do I have to leave my house to get it!

I haven’t experimented too much with other espresso beverages, but if YOU have please let me know your favorite recipes below in the comments!

Nespresso sells their pods on Amazon?

That is where I buy mine, yes

We bought the Nespresso Virtuoline and milk frother right before my second son was born. We converted the sitting room off of our master bedroom into a coffee bar and it’s been the BEST DECISION EVER. I don’t even have to leave my room to have caffeinated deliciousness and sometimes I {{may}} have a cup when I’m up for a nighttime feeding! I can’t wait to try the iced latte recipe! Thanks for sharing!

As I sit here in my office sipping my triple vanilla latte from Starbucks…I am mighty tempted to purchase the Nespresso machine. Particularly on Monday mornings when I have to leave my house 20 minutes early to get my fix.

Great post — thank you!

We turned our formal dining into a coffee room too! And it’s the most used room in the house. Sitting right along side the kitchen, it’s where we all hang out!

As for iced coffees, here’s my little tip. I freeze leftover coffee from the morning into ice cube trays to be used in my iced coffees. That way my iced coffee doesn’t get watered down when the cubes start to melt!

You should definitely try the Ninja Coffee Bar. It does sooo much more and you don’t have to buy expensive pods, it uses regular coffee grinds. I absolutely love it!

We bought this exact Nespresso machine when our Keurig (and its replacement) died, and we have not regretted the decision for an instant. The coffee is amazing, and it really helps us enjoy the little simple luxuries at home!
I’ve found that running a strong pod like Roma or Arpeggio twice through the lungo button gives just the right size for a morning coffee, and on days that I want to treat myself I’ll make a cappuccino or latte. I also bought some decaf pods for afternoon and nighttime, since I’m still nursing and otherwise my son would be jumping off the walls lol. Perfect coffee, every time.

I have the nespresso machine that has the milk part attached to it, and it doesn’t have a cold setting so I feel like it always just melts the ice when I do that, but maybe I just need to experiment more. I should also get the Starbucks syrups – genius idea!

I love to make iced lattes at home! When I was recently visiting the outerbanks this summer with family we ventured out to a local coffe shop that served coconut cream pie iced lattes- which is an iced latte with French vanilla syrup and coconut syrup. It was out of this world good! I add a splash of heavy whipping cream to send it over the top on days that I need a little treat! Thanks for sharing!

I may have to try this! I usually just brew strong coffee the night before and put it in the fridge overnight. Cold brewing has never worked for me, it always tastes so watered down! yuck

Here’s another way to get an iced latte without any equipment, other than a coffee press (a Bodum or similar). I have a 2 cup coffee press. I put in about 1/2 cup coarse ground coffee in the press, stir and top it with water. DO NOT PRESS THE COFFEE OUT YET. If you want any sweetener, put in 1-2 Tbsp brown sugar and a quick shake of cinnamon. Put it in the fridge for overnight. The next day, press out the coffee, pour over ice and top with your choice of milk or cream. Voila! Very tasty. Will make 2 lovely iced lattes. You can experiment with sugar, sweeteners or spices to your taste.

I’d dedicate an entire room to coffee if I had it too! Lucky you…haha!
I love my Nespresso! I make an iced americano in the afternoons with the half caf/half decaf pod.

Hi. I was hoping you had a product ideas or anything that would help on how to get rid of deep laugh lines. ( mouth divots) i guess I laugh a lot. I hate them and the older I get the worse they get. Thanks for your help. Jamie

Haha NO, the bigger cup is not a double shot of espresso, it’s a lungo. So if you’re using a single espresso pod on the lungo setting, you’re just making a bigger, weaker espresso.

I recently made my own liquid sugar that I use to sweeten my homemade iced coffee. Equal parts water and white sugar (I did 1 cup of each), with a few drops of lemon juice (helps prevent it to crystalize later) and a splash of vanilla. I put it in a Tupperware container and let it sit on my counter for a week or two at a time!

That is neat you have room for a bar area! I just have an at home espresso machine and it actually does not have a large footprint on the counter. I just pull the shot of espresso and mix with flavor and milk in a glass, then add ice. If you mix the coffee with the milk and flavor before adding the ice, the ice does not melt as much. I worked at an espresso place all through college and once you get used to making your own, I am so picky ordering anywhere! I honestly have steered clear of any of these more automated machines, because the traditional way is easy and less extra stuff to buy. However, all that matters with anything is that we love what works for us and we enjoy it! 🙂 I think other than the convenience of making drinks at home, I feel giddy how much I am saving every time. I totally agree with you about sugar free!

I seem to have a coffee maker on each counter (atleast that’s my hubbies viewpoint ) so for my nespresso I just make lattes and sweeten with blackberry honey , so yummy. So excited my local Kroger type store (Fred Meyer’s) now carry nespresso pods 👍

I almost purchased the Starbucks vanilla syrup you linked on Amazon until I read a review that said Walmart had it for half the price. I’m not a big Walmart shopper but I checked it out on their website and they had the same bottle for $5.98! BUT it’s only available to purchase online and pick up in store. Can’t wait to use it in my coffees!
Side note – does anyone know the big differences between this Nespresso Citiz and the Nespresso Essenza model?
