My favorite piece of wedding day advice

next
A liquid blush that feels like a cloud

I know I’ve shared this before, but it’s worth revisiting again for anyone who missed the first post!

I was working behind the chair while I was engaged, and my engagement lasted about 13 months. I received a ton of advice and suggestions from my clients during that time, but the best piece of advice regarding the day of my wedding has stuck with me ever since.

And sadly, I can’t remember who shared it with me!

A client told me to pick out a brand new perfume to start wearing on your wedding day. Maybe get used to it on the day of your bridal shower, or at the rehearsal dinner. Then wear it on your wedding day and through the honeymoon.

When you get back home and settle into your new married life, stop using the perfume.

This is where there really sweet part comes in: keep the perfume somewhere safe so it can last for years, and wear it on every anniversary. I promise you that upon smelling it, you’ll be taken right back to your wedding day or honeymoon and have the fondest memories.

Justin and I both do this and I always notice when he wears his wedding day/honeymoon perfume. It reminds me of walking around Charleston, which is where we went after the wedding.

If you are getting married, or have something else significant coming up that you want to remember, tie a fragrance to it.

I love this. Funnily enough you are holding the perfume I wore on my wedding day.
My favourite piece of advice was to sneak off and have a few moments on your own, just the two of you to toast the commitment you’ve made to one another. It’s so easy to spend the day with guests and loved ones you’ve not seen in a long time and forget to share some time together without anyone else around. I cherish those little pockets of time my husband and I had on our own and they’re some of my favourite memories of the day. Best wishes to Lauren and Mike for their big day πŸ’•

I love that advice about alone time together. On our wedding day, our photographer left for 5-10 minutes after our first look pictures so John and I could have some quiet time together. It was so sweet and one of my favorite memories of the day!

Love that perfume. It’s my everyday!
I did this too! It was an inexpensive one from B&BW called forever sunshine. I doused myself in it and the matching lotion on our honeymoon! Smelling it 6 years later brings me right back to that happy time!

Yes! Maybe not exactly the same but I have a relaxing massage oil that we used on our honeymoon and it instantly brings me back! It has lavender oil and some nights I’ll just slather it on my arms/neck to relax. I don’t save it for anniversaries, but smells sure have an impact.

Great idea! I often forget that memories have everything to do with scent. I always just disregard the sense of smell, but actually, it’s so important, like when it comes to tasting our food!

Clinique Happy Heart was my wedding/honeymoon perfume. Every time I smell it, I’m taken back to that time and I love that I did this.

This is such wonderful, and easy, advice for new brides-to-be! Someone told me this prior to me getting engaged (or maybe I read it here) and I decided that I was going to do it. We’ve only been married a month, but already seeing the bottle brings back a flood of happy emotions. I wanted something a little different than my everyday Chanel Chance, and Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet was a perfect soft, feminine, summer-y scent without being too overpowering. I share this advice with all my friends πŸ™‚

I wore LancΓ΄me Magi Noir on my wedding day. We were married in Savannah in February and it snowed (!) that night. That fragrance is so wintery and warm and I am instantly taken back when I smell it. Sadly, it’s not made anymore. I keep the bottle I have just to remember. 29 years later and I’m still taken back to that night. Great suggestion!

My mom used to wear Magi (in the 60’s or 70’s?) and always talked about how good it smelled. I was able to find some on eBay for about $30, so I ordered a bottle for her, and she was thrilled. Maybe give that a try. 😊

I took this advice and bought Philosophy’s Unconditional Love for the latter part of my pregnancy, delivery, and first few days home with my new baby son. Now each time I wear it, I’m taken back to that sweet season of my life every single time. Oh the feels!!!

I did this and look forward to our 1st year anniversary. My sister also suggested picking a fragrant flower for my bouquet as it will have the same effect. I chose gardenias for my wedding this past April. For our one month anniversary my husband bought a gardenia bush which is now planted outside our back porch. Truly special. Enjoy this time – it goes so fast and is so amazing. Once the day arrives.. just have FUN!

My oldest daughter did this 3 years ago when she got married & my youngest daughter who just got married 2 week ago decided to do the same.

I did this! One of my best friends gave me a new perfume at my bridal shower. Now I wear it more often then just anniversaries, but my husband said it reminds him of bagels, tomatoes, and San Francisco, which is where we went for our honeymoon.

Lovely idea. I’ve been wearing Coco Mademoiselle ever since it was first launched in 2001, it’s all I ever wear.

My favorite piece of advice to give is to remember to stop and look around occasionally. Take in the people and the feelings and the sights…they go by too quickly and you want to remember these things!

Aww, this is the sweetest thing I’ve heard while wedding planning! I am definitely going to incorporate this into our wedding festivities. Thank you!

P.s. to add a little more sentiment to it, you and your honey can pick out the fragrances for each other. πŸ™‚

Finally, a piece of wedding advice I’ve never heard of! Great tip, although I’ll have to pass it to someone else…maybe my daughter one day…

Love this idea and I tried to do it but lost the perfume during my first year of marriage! It can be duplicated I think, it had a magnolia scent.

My advice is advice that I have given to brides, based on my mistake. Hire a REAL photographer! I asked a family member to do ours, and I bitterly regret it. The photos are terrible quality, and the ones that are remotely decent, aren’t in a printable format. I have ONE photo printed from our wedding, it’s the only photo she took of my husband and I together. I also have no photos at all of myself and my bridesmaids together. So, hire someone who knows what they are doing. And have those beautiful photos printed so you can look back with joy on your special day!

Love this idea! It is too late for me to do this (We are going on 15 years of marriage), but I do have a “date night” perfume that I use for this same sort of idea.

I remembered you saying this before, and it had already happened coincidentally with my pregnancies. I used the same cream on my whole itchy body thru those months, and not even a day after, but now that smell is extra sweet because it remind me of growing babies!! Thank you for pointing it out 😘

I love this!
The summer after I turned 19, I went to Italy for a month and had the best summer of my life. MY LIFE. Anyway, that summer I spent a lot of time with one of my aunts (my mom’s family all lives in Italy), and she had this amazing perfume that she would wear everyday – Cartier Must II. It was her signature scent. Anyway, whenever I would go over to her home, she would let me spritz some on because I loved it so much.
The evening before I left to come back to the states, we had a big family dinner, and she presented me with a gift – my own bottle of Cartier Must II. I wore that perfume every single day until I barely had any left. I saved the bottle, though, and every once in awhile I’ll pull it out and smell it. It’s been almost 20 years, but every time I smell that perfume I’m immediately transported back to some of the best times of my life.

I didn’t pick a new perfume for my wedding, but went with a tried and true old friend: Chanel Number 5. I wore it to high school graduation, college graduation, wedding, and the day my daughter was born. I love that it holds so many special memories.

I actually did this without knowing this piece of advice and every time I wear that particular perfume, I’m reminded of how special and magical that day and our amazing honeymoon were.

We’ll be celebrating our 10th anniversary next month!

Hope your sister’s wedding was beautiful!

I did this, too. πŸ™‚
An older couple at church pressed $40 into my hand the week before I got married, and made me promise to use to buy something just for me before the wedding. Nothing for my new apartment, or being married; just a little girly something because I *liked* it.
I bought perfume I wore the wedding day, and honeymoon. Then it got a little heady for me, so I switched it out for something else. And I just wear it rarely, mostly on an anniversary date. πŸ™‚
I read somewhere that scent is the strongest physical sense attached to memory!

its really very perfect piece of advice. and i use to do it in my l 3 years of wedding period i always use the same perfume and play the same song which we use to play in our honeymoon period.its really very romantic feeling.

Lovely idea. But it may be worth just testing out his reaction to the scent before the wedding day. Some guys strongly dislike certain perfumes – you don’t want him keeping his distance on the big day!
