A Winter Glow Makeup Tutorial

Hanging with the boys: Some of our favorite things to do in the winter

Glowy-1

Dry winter air and a natural healthy glow don’t typically go hand in hand, but you can certainly fake it using the right products. Today I’m sharing a winter glow makeup tutorial and I love how glowy and luminous my skin looked!

I started with a swipe of the POND’S Luminous Clean Wet Cleansing Towelettes. I typically shower in the evening, but if I want a fresh face in the morning, a splash of water along with a POND’S Cleansing Towelette is the perfect “wake me up” routine. It doesn’t leave my skin thirsty, and gets any leftover makeup or dirt off.

The next step was applying moisturizer, which I always do, and I reached for the POND’S Dry Skin Cream. My skin has been excessively dry, so this hydrated it perfectly without leaving it too shiny like some deeply hydrating moisturizers can.

After my skin was prepped, I picked a handful of products that all contributed to a luminous glow and you want watch the entire process below!

Makeup I used: Mac Paintpot in Painterly, Urban Decay Midnight Cowboy Rides Again, Jetsetter from Tartelette palette, Pixi Slate Grey eyeliner, Shu Uemura Lash Curler, Benefit Roller Lash, Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer, Honest Beauty blush, Hourglass Arch brow pencil, RMS beauty Living Luminzer, Clinique Bottom Lash, Tarte LipSurgence in Enchanted

I absolutely love your style! You have mastered the fresh, clean, casual-yet-always-put-together-with-little-details look that I love. I actually bought that necklace at the loft about a month ago and thought to myself “I could definitely see this popping up in one of Kate’s posts.” Love this look and am looking forward to trying it out! Thanks Kate!

I have been using the Fresh Lotus Youth Preserves Face Cream, and while I love that it doesn’t feel greasy, it seems to not be enough for winter. Do you find that this cream isn’t enough for your dry skin too?

When I apply my make up, even if I use primer before, it still ends up sliding off my face. I’ve used powders to help set it but I hate how heavy they look, especially when going for any kind of a glow or highlight. Any suggestions?

Reply
Sue b says · 01.29.16

Wayne Goss suggests if you’re really oily you can apply powder before foundation. I’ve tried it and it works. It also acts like a primer.

I will have to test out this lotion. Generally, when I use moisturizer with makeup I look oily so I have the bad habit of not moisturizing if I wear face makeup. Because of this, I have been going au natural so I can moisturize!

I have been trying and trying to find out about the Arbonne Foundation that you use. Where can I get it and how do I determine the shade I need? Please let me know.

Reply
Kate says · 01.29.16

you can buy it at arbonne.com!

Reply
Taylor says · 02.03.16

Lori, you have to buy it through a consultant, but you can buy it online at arbonne.com! My shade is soft blush. I have pretty white skin with a pink undertone. Buff is another popular color and that is for someone with pretty white skin (but not as much as me) with more of a yellow undertone. Unfortunately you have to find a consultant in person to sample the shades.

Love this tutorial and the products you used! I noticed in the pictures below that your curls seem so separated and I’ve tried most of your tutorials and you’ve made me a strong believer in not just the method of styling but theat products are key. Unfortunately I feel like I’m continually battling the issue where my curls toend to melt together and merge making the curls less separated. Any advice/tips? My hair is extremely thick, naturally curly and somewhat corse. I use redken so soft shampoo/conditioner, aquage uplifting foam, Anika undone texture spray, and Kenra volume 25 hairspray…help! ?

Taylor says · 02.03.16

I make sure when I’m curling my hair to alternate directions. Sometimes literally every other one, or I do three sections when I’m curling my hair. Bottom section is away from my face, middle section is towards my face, and top section is away from my face again.

Hi Kate,

First, thanks for the enjoyable read that your blog provides! The hair tutorials are especially helpful.

So I have a question. For a college student who wants a light to medium coverage liquid foundation that doesn’t break the bank, what would you recommend? Are there any natural products out there that you have been happy with? Thanks.

Thank you for another great tutorial! Thanks for listing the make-up used. Could you provide a list also of the brushes you were using? I need a good concealer brush, and would like to try brushing on my foundation. I think it will go on much better than using my fingers.

Did you list which exact color of blush you used from Honest Beauty? The link just takes me to the general cream blush page. Same with the bronzer. I didn’t see it listed, which could mean I’m on crack, but ya know… anything is possible since the baby is going through sleep regression or whatever it’s called when they stop sleeping for no reason.
