The Classic Cat Eye

No makeup look is quite as appropriate as a cat eye and red lip in the wintertime. If you are doing both, or just one, of those classic makeup looks, make sure to keep the rest of the face rather simple so as to not compete for the “statement look”!

Today’s tutorial shows you how to balance a cat eye and red lip with a glowing base and shimmery eye shadow.

I started by exfoliating my skin with the POND’S Exfoliating Renewal Wet Cleansing Towelettes. This is the perfect prep for a smooth and bright face on days when I shower the night before. It sort of “wakes up” my skin.

Afterwards, I applied POND’S Rejuveness Anti-Wrinkle Cream all over my face. This is one of their deeper moisturizers, which a focus on wrinkle reduction, that also deeply hydrates my skin.

Since the cat eye and red lip are statement enough, I needed my skin to look healthy and moisturized beneath the foundation.

The other products I used are: Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup, Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer, Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded, Benefit They’re Real Push Up Liner, Benefit Roller Lash mascara, Cherry Bloom Lash Fibers, Hourglass Arch Brow Pencil, Mac Studio Fix Powder Foundation, Anastasia Contour Kit in Light-Medium, Bite Lip Primer, Bite Lip Pencil in Pomegranate

Do you have trouble getting the Benefit eyeliner off? I’ve only used it once and couldn’t get it off – so have been scared to use it again!

Yes! Its tenacious, lol. Benefit makes a special remover that melts they’re real liner and mascara right off. I just add a drop to my make up wipe and swipe it right away.

I use Dr. Jart+ Dermaclear Micro Water makeup remover, and it takes off the mascara with the first swipe! It will take off anything, I highly recommend it!

I love this – still fresh faced with the red lip as the star of the show! I did a similar look on my blog, too. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

This is such a lovely look! I wish I could draw my cat eye so precisely. I ALWAYS mess it up.

I’m always so scared to do a red lip. I feel like porcelain skin and dark skin women can pull off red lips beautifully. I’m Asian and I feel like I’d just look like a clown.

Honestly, I think Asian women look amazing with bold red lips. Like with all ethnicities, I think the key is finding the right shade or red for your skin tone. You should go try some out and see which ones work for you. I bet they’d look better than you think!

That looks like a lot of face make up. Is this an everyday look for you or special occasion?

definitely special occasion!

Looks great! Might you be willing to teach us in a post sometime about different blonde shades? I am a natural blonde but dye my hair brown and now anytime I try to go back to blonde it turns yellow. I don’t know how to explain to my stylist that I want your shade of blonde.

So glad you shared this look! Loved it when you wore it in the last hair tutorial! Also, you made the cat eye look so easy. Sometimes I see these super dramatic cat eyes that I just don’t feel confident wearing on a day to basis! This I could maybe handle! (: Thanks!

Great video! I just love your voice, it’s so calming in your tutorials. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas! By the way, where is your necklace from? I’d love to get one similar. Thanks!

Great look on you and you make the cat eye look so easy. Every time I’ve tried it looks silly on me, maybe with your video I can try it again with more confidence. Thank you!!!

Hi Kate, beautiful as always. What brush are you using for contouring?

I really love this look, not used to seeing you in such a bright lip but that red is amazing. I’m horrible at doing a cat eye but I’ll try to copy your method!

recently bought those Ponds wipes and my face and neck broke out into gruesome hives that lasted a week! Just a little reminder to everyone to test new things before using them ?

I am no stranger to make up and fancy eyeliners, but I could not get the benefit push-up liner to work. I could easily draw a perfect line on my hand, but it would never deposit product onto my eyelid. How did you manage to get this perfect cat eye with it?
