Chicago Hair Class Recap

T3-9

If you are anything like me you may notice at first how pretty the curling iron system I used today is. Curling irons almost always have a large element of black on them, so a white and gold iron immediately struck me as something different!

And there is a great deal of substance and technology behind the pretty looks as well.

I’m so excited to finally be sharing this tutorial I created using PROi Dryer and the Whirl Trio + the two 2 clip barrels (Clip Barrel 1”, Clip Barrel 1.25”) which make up the convertible collection.

I’ve been using this iron and dryer for a few weeks and I have to say that I find myself grabbing both of these tools in the morning more often than not!

t3-1-3

So, in case you are new to this system, the basic concept is this: The base of the curling iron allows for a variety of attachments to click into therefore giving you different tools to style your hair with without having to buy an entirely different iron. It’s pretty genius if you ask me.

If you are a skeptic like I am and are wondering about the quality (“just how well exactly to these barrels insert into the end?” or “how hot does it actually get?”), I’m here to tell you to banish your worries. This iron is top quality. It’s sturdy and solid in your hand, and after a lot of swapping and testing of all the barrels I can assure you the barrels heat up quickly and consistently.

The biggest difference that I’ve noticed between this and other irons is how tightly the clip holds the hair on the barrel. Of course, this is only a factor for the two clip barrels but I was genuinely impressed at how smooth and firm it held my hair.

In the tutorial I explain why I choose what attachment I do for each section of my hair, and explain how to use the iron if you are new to it!

t3-2-3

I start with the PROi dryer which created a very smooth surface to work on! I did a rough dry without the nozzle attachment, but added it near the end of the blow dry to help smooth out each section. The PROi Dryer is exclusive to Sephora, just so you know if you are browsing around.

T3-2

I start on the lowest section with the 1.25” clip barrel, and work my way to the top of my head by using the 1.5” straight barrel. The look I was going for was soft, every day waves. Since this tutorial I’ve created a few different looks with the other barrel attachments and continue to be impressed with the smoothness of the irons and the long-lasting curls it gives me.

T3-6

I love the soft waves AND the confidence that the bottom of my hair won’t fall straight too quickly.

I have the best news! T3 is giving away a full set of the tools I used in the the tutorial! So that’s the PROi Dryer, and the Convertible Collection which includes the The Whirl Trio + the 2 new clip barrels (Clip Barrel 1”Clip Barrel 1.25”)! You’ll be set for endless opportunities for new curling techniques! To enter the giveaway, click HERE!   The giveaway will run for 2 weeks, USA only.

Huge thanks to T3 for collaborating on this post and offering such a great giveaway!

This post was created in partnership with T3, all opinions are my own.

Looks great. I don’t think it looks any different with this iron than your previous tutorials, though. I have been using a T3 dryer for years , but it was a huge splurge. I can’t even imagine the cost of this T3 set!

I agree! I love my T3 dryer, but their prices have really skyrocketed to unaffordable. It’s a nice look but I think it can be accomplished with cheaper tools. I priced out the items used to accomplish the video look and its up near $1K Canadian dollars 🙁

I always want to get my hair to look like that! I wish the really good irons and hair dryers were not so expensive. I just can’t justify that 🙁

I love your hair! What cut is it right now? Mine is pretty long. I want to go shorter. Thanks!

Reply
Debbie says · 12.15.15

I second the notion on sharing info about your cut…or even (or including) previous cuts. I’m not doing a lot cut-wise as I’m growing out to do a hair donation, but I would definitely save for Pinterest and the future!

Thank you for the tutorials! Attempted a few of them, but it wasn’t pretty! 🙂 I’ve always liked this hairstyle. I have a problem with curl, from an iron, falling out somewhat quickly when I attempt this look. I have naturally curly/wavy, fine, kind of thin hair.

Seriously a $350 blow dryer and $440 curling iron?! Maybe as a Pro, but I cannot see ever making that investment on styling items.

Reply
Elinor J says · 12.15.15

I have this iron and I can’t get the curls to hold in my thin, fine hair. I prep with phytopulp volumizing mousse, use Sebastian shaper spray before I curl, and Bumble and bumble dry spun finish after. I only use it on the third heat setting, should I go hotter?

Emily says · 12.15.15

i have a few questions. The official rules say One winner will receive a PROi Professional Hair Dryer, a Whirl Trio Interchangeable Styling Wand, a 1.25″ Clip Barrel and a 1″ Clip Barrel. Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”): US $790.00 each prize.

BUT according to their website:
PROi Professional Hair Dryer = $350
T3 Whirl Trio Interchangeable Styling Wand = $270
which comes to $620 not $790 am I missing something?

The official rules also state: Prizes are awarded “as is” with no warranty or guarantee, either expressed or implied, by Sponsor

yet if you BUY these products the hair dryer has a 4 yr warranty, and wands have 2 yr warranty. Why would the winner not receive these warranties? and the “as is” makes me think they will be refurbished possibly?

The clip barrels are not included in the whirl trio so you are missing their msrp in your calculation.

Thank you for posting this tutorial! I have had the complete T3 whirl set for a wile and absolutely love it…it is the only iron that curls my resistant hair, including Ghd! I just picked up the clip irons and have been trying to find ways to use them. Would you maybe consider doing a tutorial using the 1″ wand, the tapered wave wand and the 1″ curling iron? Again, thank you so much – Your blog has truly revolutionized the way I do my hair! 🙂

First, I’m loving how long your hair is. I go back and forth between long and short on myself and I’m in that horrid not-long-enough-to-be-long, too-short-to-be-short phase right now and it’s the worst. I’ve had the T3 iron bookmarked for a while but may have to get more serious about saving my pennies for it. Thanks for this review!

Kate, I love this wavy look! With the new year around the corner, people seem to want to try new things…like a new hair cut. Could you blog or even do a tutorial about best cuts for different hair types and face shapes? Maybe you have friends you can demo on? I know there are a lot of ideas out there already on this subject but I’d love to hear your ideas and input since you have such great taste. Thanks!

Kate,

My mom recently introduced me to your blog and I LOVE it! I have bought so many of your recommendations. I have never done much with my hair and makeup…same ol same ol everyday. I have had so much fun trying new things and getting ready now!

I have veryyyyy thick, medium length hair. I tried this tutorial twice and my hair looks amazing…for about an hour. Then the curls fall out. Any tips on how to help? Do you think I need a better curling iron?

Thank you and thanks for blogging!

Sarah

What size barrel is a good size to buy in a curling iron? My hair touches the tops of my shoulders. I’ve never been good at curling my hair with a curling iron but I want to try it again. Thanks Kate. I love your tutorials. You are the reason I have fell in love with Tarte!
