The Bland Bathroom Makeover Reveal

next
High Five for Friday

Well, the bathroom is finally made over! And to say it’s brighter and livelier would be an understatement.
Let’s look back at the before photo.

The owners’ sand color didn’t work with our existing gold shower curtain. And with a neutral basket, flowers, and picture, the colors were all very boring. The rest of the home has great colors, from grays to dusty blues, so the sandy bathroom looked neglected and sad.
I found the shower curtain that I loved at Target and used the Chip It! tool to find the perfect paint color to spruce up the bathroom. Of all the colors that were “chipped,” I liked the yellow the best. It was bright and definitely bold enough for a small room like a bathroom.
And so painting began. There was lots of tape and detailing, but the paint went on nicely. My husband and I had plenty of laughs trying to get around each other in there. And after two coats, we were left with a bright little bathroom!

See how the yellow walls pick up the yellow in the shower curtain? That’s exactly what I wanted to happen.
I kept the towels white so as to not have too many colors going on in one small room.

I also stuck with neutral and light accessories. The shower curtain faces the doorway, so that acts as “art.” It’s a busy enough pattern that I didn’t need to fill the walls with coordinating artwork. I did need to fill in the space between the mirrors and the toilet, so I went with a tall vase with some big flowers.
Slipping a little placemat on the top of the toilet is another way to ground the items without using a basket (like I had done before).

A lot of the accessories came from World Market, one of my favorite stores. The hand towel holder came from Target, as well as the towel it’s holding!
I’m so glad that we brightened up this bathroom!
Do you have some painting to do? Be sure to check out Chip It! and the How To Video, then drag and drop the Chip It! button below to your toolbar so you can be sure to pick the perfect paint colors for your home!

I’d really like to redo my mother’s bedroom. The walls had suffered some water damage, so that needs to be be repaired. They are also overdue for a coat of paint, and she could use some new furniture. My mother spends so much of her life doing things for others, but she rarely takes the time to do things for herself. Having a budget to redo her room would be great for her.

I’ve dabbled with Chip It! before and love how it pulls the colors from photos to create a cohesive look. You can contact me here: jlizettg (at) gmail (dot) com

I am in the planning process for an office re-do and would so love a little help! I haven’t tried “Chip it” just yet as I am still deciding on the decor. My vision at the moment…striped walls with splashes of color throughout the room (this would be quite a courageous move for this “beige” girl). By the way…love the bathroom update!

In an instant, we’d be greedy and pick our bedroom. I guess I made the “mistake” of painting our entire house brown because the outside is brown and we have dark wood trim and doors. I really wanted gray, but I feel like we can’t do the gray because of the dark stuff. And then after all this paint talk (thanks, Kate) we painted the living room and hallway blue (still can’t do gray, we have this brown/yellow brick fireplace). It looks amazing. So now we want to repaint everything–the kitchen is spared, I believe. Of course, I bet (look how I am… sneaky) with that kind of money, we could redo our daughter’s room, PLUS our bedroom. So that’s what we’d do. But we’d do our room first. I have no idea what color. We seriously went to buy containers for our closet organization and came home with $100 of paint. So. We’re spontaneous like that. [email protected]

I desperately NEED to redo our guest bathroom! The owner’s before us used an arsenal of painting techniques that just dont work. The walls are sponge painted an ugly olive green color and the trim and cabinets are antiqued which really just created an equally ugly green-brown finish. Even the accesories (cabinet knobs, towel holders, etc) are hideous. I also bought a shower curtain that I loved and plan to use it as inspiration for the rest of the room so the Chip It tool will be really useful. Thanks Kate!

I will be moving away for graduate school and will be renting a room from a great roommate/landlord who is giving me pretty much total freedom in sprucing up the space! The basement room is big, but awkwardly proportioned. It still has cement floors, minimal natural light, and it’s sponge-painted a dreary gray-blue that makes it feel like a cave. I won’t have to pay for the carpeting, but making the space feel cozy and warm will be a challenge for my student-sized budget! I would be absolutely thrilled if I could get help in making this happen!!!

We moved into our home nearly 5 years ago and have literally painted EVERY WALL because the prior owners’ color choices were so hideous. Now we’re in the process of going back and fixing some hastily-made color choices. I like nearly all of our walls now, but our guest room could use a little bit bolder of a color. I guess I’ll have to go with that room!

I had a baby almost two months ago. Ms. Addison Jayne. Her room is currently an office/guest bedroom. Totally not baby ready but needs to be soon! She is staying in our room in a bassinet along with her changing table, clothes, diapers, etc. It would be an understatement to say it is a little cramped. It’s a lot cramped! $1200 to makeover our office/guest bedroom into her nursery would be such a blessing!

I would absolutely love to re-do my living room and possibly my office! I just moved into a new apartment. While the details are starting to come together, the walls have lots of patches from where the previous renter had hung pictures. (She had pictures on the walls literally from ceiling to floor!!) I’m on a tight budget, so painting has had to wait for now. In the meantime, I’m brainstorming ideas… maybe a nice, soft grey in the living room to make my white couch and teal and green accents pop? 🙂

My husband and I were married in June and just moved into our first apartment. We love it but a few rooms still need a little TLC. This is embarrassing but our master bathroom has sat unused for the 4 years that we’ve lived in our home because my husband and I have not had the time or money to paint it (it is currently dark brown), install a new floor (there is a large gap between the linoleum floor and the shower), and seal the shower due to a micro crack that leaked water straight through to our living room ceiling! We are both full time students in intense graduate school programs, and after we saved up and fixed the crack, we did not get around to doing these repairs that would enable us to use and enjoy this vital room in our house. Winning this giveaway would allow me to completely repair and upgrade our master bathroom complete with paint and accessories!

I would like to make over our bedroom. Its not the master so small and tricky to decorate. Right now its pretty dull and crowded. dmdevargas(at)msn(dot)com

Would love to do our living room – it’s currently a combination of mismatched hand-me-downs, I would love to make it a warm, inviting, comfortable room. I also wish I could finish the master bedroom, we got a great bedding set for a wedding gift – just need to finish up by redoing the REST of the room! email is moreqsforme(at)gmail(dot)com

I would love to remodel my kitchen using the Chip It tool. I feel for me the kitchen is the hardest to decorate because it is one of the biggest rooms in our house.

I would love to makeover our master bedroom. With two little kids, we need a place to just relax at the end of the day. A new coat of paint in a soothing color would do the trick!!

I would love to redo our master bedroom/bathroom. Or maybe our living room. Our house is decorated pretty nicely but it could use some updated furniture and accessories.

when we bought our home 2 years we liked the dark green wall color in the master bedroom, but now it feels dark and dungeonesque. A color that will liven up the space without resorting to beige or off-white would be great. Reach me diddlee(at)gmail(dot)com.

Thanks!

Love your bright bathroom! I’m thinking of painting my living/dining room/entry way and have hired an interior consultant. Winning this would come in SOOO handy 😉

You got some nice touches in there. I like how those ceramics and the flowers make the area look so fresh and clean. Thank you again for sharing this post. I really learned a lot. You did a great job.
