One Striped Shirt, Two Ways

Three Bird Nest Giveaway
If you have been out and about lately I’m sure you’ve seen that stripes are everywhere! Nautical is big for spring. And I’m happy about it. I love stripes and navy.

I picked up this boatneck striped shirt at Gap (it is The Gap, or just Gap?) and paired it with different accessories for a different look.

Here it is with a dark navy/grey (grevy?) jacket and a chunky necklace:

Striped shirt: Gap, Jacket: H&M 2009, Necklace: Nordstroms 2012, Jeans: very old Gap jeans, Shoes: Ninewest

And here it is with a pop of color:

See that orange/bright coral scarf up there? It is my favorite scarf from Target.

I know–shocking. It’s bursting with color. AND pattern.

I learned a lesson recently: Don’t be afraid to mix patterns and textures with stripes. I’m now considering stripes a “neutral”.

So pile on the scarves.
Layer with a jacket or vest.
Add a chunky necklace. . .like this one:

Also from Target.

I seriously have a problem.

Ok love the outfits and I totally understand the target thing. I always try to get my husband to let us buy groceries there but I always end up detouring into the clothes sections…it drives him crazy!…oh well-he’ll live 😉

I love the striped shirt. I always thought I’d look terrible in horizontal stripes because I’m a little broad until I bought a blue striped sweater from Lane Bryant. I get tons of compliments, even from my husband, lol!

Ahhhhhh, stripes, how I love thee! I was looking at that scarf a couple days ago but walked away empty handed. Not smart of me, because it’s seriously adorable! I’m hoping it’ll still be there!

I love stripes too and I’m so excited they’re coming back! My family always makes jokes about how many striped shirts I have. When I see a shirt in the store I like they say “Of course you like it. It is striped.” 🙂

I like the stripes with the pop of color! I’m like you 90% of my closet is black, brown, and grey and 10% is color. It’s really sad actually. I NEED more color in my life!

You have such cute clothes & accessories 🙂 All the time! I so rarely buy new clothes & buying a new accessory is even rarer. I always feel like I don’t NEED anything else, so I don’t buy it. I tend to wait to things are falling apart. This is bad. I need to stop it so I can look cute like you!

Ok Kate! I love your striped shirt. Absolutely LOVE! Here is the deal: I am not a small fry – I wear sizes 10/12 jeans, L/XL shirt. Can anyone wear stripes or am I just being paranoid about it? You look fab in yours!

Totally agree that stripes should be the new neutral! BTW, love the scarf color. I saw a pair of trouser pants in coral at Ann Taylor paired with a navy striped shirt and wanted to die! Coral pants are a little bold for me but it looked divine. I think you should go buy them and do a write up on them for us! I’m also a little bummed that our Target here in Wilmington is so lame, I never find the stuff you have at ours 🙁 time for a trip to Raleigh

First off, thank you for finding cute things at Target and incorporating them in with your outfits! It is easier for Target purchases to slip under the radar because my husband just assumes they are baby things or stuff that we needed for the house. 🙂 I will have to be on the hunt for the necklace..love it.

You are such a stylish girl, Kate! I admire you on the pictures and your ideas!

Do you mind if I ask a mani-related question here?
One of my nails keep on separating and chipping off. I tear the loose layer off, file, cut the nail really short, top it off with clear nail polish, but…. a day or 2 later it starts to separate again. So tired of it! No fungus there. Any idea what might glue it while it re growths?
Thank you,
Iryna

I tried to channel your outfits when I got ready this morning!

Kate, I am currently trying to do a major purge of my clothes closet. I am trying to get an idea of the number of pieces to actually keep. Can you recommend or comment on the number of tops, jeans, sweaters, jackets you recommend to have. I hate to get rid of so much but how much do we really need??? Thanks-Dana from Indiana
