Even though I haven’t mentioned it in awhile, I’m still working on my 12 by 2012 list. Remember that?

But instead of cleaning out my closet, I decided to clean out my bathroom cabinet.

My husband and I live in a rental. And I try a hard as I can to treat it as a “temporary living space”. I want to buy shelving and organizational products to help maximize space, but I stop myself because I know everything will change when we move to a home that we own one day. So, in the meantime, I look for cheap options to de-clutter and make use of the space we have.

My go-to place for organization is Michaels. They are always putting their box aisle on sale for about 40% off. And if it isn’t on sale this week, you can always find a 40% off coupon to use instead. I love them for that. So generous.

Anyway, I picked up a few boxes for 40% off in an effort to organize this disaster:

Yep. Every morning was a fight to try to find the curling iron I needed. . .the makeup I wanted to use. . .the hairspray. . .I could go on and on. . .

So I purged about 2 garbage bags full of j-u-n-k. It felt so good.

Then I took out the items I never use, but still wanted to hang on to. Why do we do this?

I was left with my dailies + some extras. And those were easy to place in my new baskets!

That is my stash of aquage uplifting foam and kenra hairspray back there incase of a hair emergency. 🙂

One more check off the 12 by 2012 list!

Hey – I just started following your blog, but I think this is my first comment! This is so random! My husband and I are teachers and spent this week totally organizing, decluttering and cleaning. I bought about $100 worth of baskets for under the sinks and my entire pantry. I hope to get that post up in the next few days. It does feel so good to get rid of bags!! I filled up so many bags that I felt bad for my trash guy…Thanks again for your great tutorials. I have been growing my hair out for about 2 years and just recently tried your “how to curl your hair” tutorial and it looked killer!!! Thanks!

Good for you! I actually disagree about rentals — I rent, too, but I love doing everything I can to make it seem like home. We hope to own someday, too, but in the meantime I want the place I’m living to feel as homey as I can. But either way, you can still do small things to make your space better, like you exemplified in this post. I love your blog — and I am ALWAYS inspired by how cute you look. 🙂

This looks really great! I have to agree with you. My husband and I are living in a rental and while we have done a lot of things like putting up curtains, I never want to spend much on organizational things, especially in the kitchen, because I know it may not work for the long term when we move to a different house! So I completely understand! 🙂

Great post Kate! We live in military housing and we have the same problem. Our bathroom organization is lacking and our housing is temporary. What a great idea to get some cute baskets. And you could reuse them anywhere!! Thanks Kate for the great tip! 0)

When we moved, I decided that I was not keeping ANYTHING that I hadn’t used in 6 months. I got rid of three trash bags in my bathroom alone. It felt so good 🙂

Nice work. I’ve been thinking of doing the same thing under my sinks for a looong time. I like the baskets that you chose, they make it look so clean and organized.

I love Vera and that Lavendar lotion is awesome! Smells so good! I’m going to have to buy some now lol Something that works for my apartment’s small bathroom is using a shoe organizer on the bathroom door. I put all my “weekly” products in the slots and keep my old stuff under the sink with my daily stuff on a shelf next to the door. The shoe organizer isn’t very pretty but great for a temporary space!

I <3 organizing things! We had a baby in October and I spent a month purging our house of junk and reorganizing everything. I couldn’t sleep one night so I got out a garbage bag and got down to business in my bathroom. Such a good feeling. Too bad my husband isn’t as careful about keeping it nice and organized. 😛

I’m glad I’m not the only renter who is treating their rental as a “temporary living space”.

Love the aquage. You might put a asterisk warning by the Redken products though, they contain wheat, so for people sensitive to wheat or gluten they can cause itching or other problems. I spent $50 and had to give it all away, but I learned my lesson about checking labels! Still love the hair advice & would be interested in a hairspray recommendation that doesn’t have wheat for us who can’t use it. Thanks!

Looks great! I did the same thing recently with some inexpensive baskets from my all-time-fav Big Lots! Separated them into hair products, medicines, junk (haha!), and then one for my hair dryer and Conair You Curl. It’s amazing how something so simple can make your mornings so much easier! Noticed you are in Raleighwood, as am I! Feel free to follow my blog, it’s just in it’s beginning stages =)

Thanks for the review. Try to use xlash eyelash serum from here http://www.xlash.net/. This product for lash growth is a kind of topical solution applied on the eyelids. This specific product offers almost the better effect in the length and growth than others.
