Soft Bends with a Flat Iron

Toffee Eyes and a Matte Lip

I feel very comfortable making waves with a curling iron, but I wanted to push myself out of my “autopilot” mode and create some soft, undone waves with the flat iron.

I’ve been using GHD flat irons for years, both in the salon and at home, and while they don’t give you options to adjust heat, they are some of the fastest, smoothest, highest-performing irons out there.

I used the new GHD Platinum+ iron for these waves (this is not a sponsored post, but the brand did gift me this iron). It’s fantastic. It has a top heat of 365 degrees, which is safe for most hair, and an auto-shutoff after 30 minutes. The beveled edge of the plates means it smooths through the hair effortlessly, which is essential for a “one and done” pass through the hair. Repeatedly ironing over a section of hair can cause damage, so if you’re able to get a smooth, straight effect (or a wave!) with one glide against the hair, that’s a sign of a great iron.

In the video, I used the GHD Platinum+ iron, the Cricket Pro-35 comb, Virtue Healing Oil for the ends, and Amika Un.Done Volume and Matte Texture Spray for texture and grit. Prior to the start of the video, I used Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Ultra Rich Hyaluronic Treatment Lotion, as well as Aquage Uplifting Foam on my roots for lift.

In my experience, this is one of those hairstyles that looks different every time you try it. Some days it’s softer waves, other days you’ll have a stronger bend. A lot depends on how you prep the hair, how quickly your iron flows through the sections, and what finishing products you use as well.

If you are more of a curling iron person and are looking for curls to last all day, this tutorial should be a huge help for you!

Hello, thank you so much for this tutorial. I was about to message you last last week to ask for a new hair styling tutorial for wavy hair since my hair is almost the same length as yours and I was struggling with how to style. This may be a shorter length for some but it is long for me and I am so happy to learn new techniques!!

Thank you and blessings for a lovely remainder of the week.

What is the name/brand of the curling iron that looked like it bent left and right?

You said it would help those of us first time curling irons!,

Love this tutorial! Do you have suggestions for a bit less expensive flat iron? This one is $279-whoa! Thanks!
