Are your curls falling flat immediately after dropping them out of the iron, or even within an hour or so? This video will show you a few simple steps to help ensure the bounciest, strongest curls that should last much longer than usual!
It’s very helpful to have metal duckbill clips (I like these!), and a humidity spray (this one is my favorite!), as well as a hairspray to use at the end of styling. A great curling iron makes a big difference as well, and I tend to use either my T3 Micro 1.25-inch barrel or my Babyliss 1.5-inch barrel iron.
It also helps to have your hair prepped and ready to be curled, and if you’ve ever wondered if you’re making mistakes while blowing your hair dry, watch this video!
If you’re looking for a different anti-humidity spray, try this one by Kenra!

Kate, Can you comment on the temperature of your curling iron. I try to keep the temp as low as possible for the health of my fine hair. But I think the lower temp leads to a limper curl and quicker fallout, despite using your great tips.
Yes, lower temperature will create a softer and potentially not as long lasting curl. Try bumping the heat up if you find your curls to fall out too quickly!
This was great! However I am left wondering when I am supposed to use the hairspray and the humidity spray. Both go on before the curl? And both on dry hair? And do you spray again after?
Use the humidity spray before and after curling, and use the hair spray as the final step (always!)
This was so helpful, thank you Kate! My hair has really changed post partum and suddenly doesn’t hold curl as well. I can’t wait to try out these tips!
Thanks, that was great. Have a few out of town weddings and will be doing my hair and makeup myself instead of going to the salon. Going to start experimenting early! Probably be doing my daughter and granddaughter.
Do you think that part of the falling out problem can be the style of not curling our ends? I feel like I’ve noticed it more with this trend.
How would you curl that front chunk of hair.? You know, the part that would be bangs? I’m struggling hard to figure it out!
Where are these earrings from? So cute!
Thanks for this! I am definitely going to try it next time. How many sections do you do? Is it strategic to have all your hair down at first vs doing the bottom then the top?
I walk my dog in the early morning after I get ready for work since I know exactly how much time I have before I need to leave. I have wavy hair but not a pretty uniform wave so I use a deep waver. I use a heat protectant before & setting spray while I use the waver. I then spray with John Frieda anti-humidity hairspray. Is there a way to keep my hair from going flat from the humidity ;live in West Texas).
This has to be THE most helpful post I’ve seen on curling hair! I literally never do it because the curls don’t hold and my hair just turns into a massive frizz ball, but you make it look so easy! Will definitely give this technique a try, thank you for sharing.
This is just what I needed thank you Kate,
I have to pin- curl my hair to help keep my curls. Never tried a humidity spray so that’s a great tip. As my hair gets grayer the texture change definitely screws up my curls😔
