Classic Makeup for a Wedding

I love a bold lip as much as the next girl, but sometimes I think keeping it classic for a wedding is a safe route. Whether you are a bride, or attending a wedding, major makeup changes from your norm can end up being distracting sometimes.

I put together this simple step by step that anyone can do. The highlighter, contoured crease of the eye, and bronzer will also ensure that you look healthy and glowing in any photos that are taken on the day! And the best part, as always, will be your bright Designer Smile thanks to Colgate® Optic White® toothpaste!

I like to start with a glowy primer just to add some natural “glow” to my skin.

Add a light shadow across the eyelid. Look for something close to your skin color with a bit of shimmer or reflection.

weddingdaymakeuplooksm-2

Add a slightly darker brown to your crease, swiping back and forth to blend it out.

Next add a little bit more depth to the outer crease area, focusing on the outer corner.

weddingdaymakeuplooksm-4

Apply a thin line of eyeliner along the upper lash line.

Find your favorite dramatic mascara and apply to make your lashes stand out!

weddingdaymakeuplooksm-6

Apply liquid foundation, and then grab a cream highlighter that you love and brighten up the inner corner area of your under eyes and also the tops of your cheeks.

weddingdaymakeuplooksm-7

Add bronzer to the outside of your face, working in soft circles to blend it in nicely. Also hit the area right along your jawbone. That is a great trick to make sure your jaw looks separate from your neck in photos.

weddingdaymakeuplooksm-8

Apply a bit of light brown liner to your lower lash line and a few light swipes of mascara.

Choose a lipstick you feel really comfortable in to finish! I love a good pink shade, but something a bit more classic would be a nude/pink shade.

Smile big with your beautiful designer smile in photos! Don’t worry so much about if it’s the right angle, or if your hair looks okay when a photographer comes to take a photo of you. Be happy and smile with your entire face! Your insecurities won’t show through, I promise!

Love it! what do I do if I’m doing my own makeup and I’m the bride?!?!?? it’s an outside wedding in less than two month at the beginning of August. Any tips or tricks for being outside with makeup and being the bride.

Thanks!

I got married in South Carolina in the beginning of October. It’s nowhere near fall temps here at that time! I used Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Full Coverage Foundation. It was fantastic. It held up for the entire wedding and reception without much touch up. It is full coverage so if you are looking for something with less coverage They also have a mineral wear foundation which is awesome too!

That is a great option–great long wear foundation!

Congrats!! I did my own makeup for my outdoor wedding in Texas (it was November, so slightly cooler, for sure), but I applied a good all-over mattifying primer like Kate did (I love Givenchy’s Mister Mat), as well as a primer on my eyelids (I like Urban Decay and have used it for years without fail) to reduce creasing and shine. I also tried to keep the layers dewey and light so that as I needed to blot (with plain tissue) and lightly dust to keep myself looking put together, it wouldn’t add up to cakey. Enjoy your day, Bride! 😀

Good Morning Kate

Love the makeup in this photos…..I have two questions.
What is an example of a “glowy” primer?
What is that lip color?……love it !!!

Hope you have a wonderful day 🙂

Pixi, found at Target, makes a GLOwtion primer, but you can also find other drugstore primers that have a bit of glow as well! http://allisonanderson.com/great-face-primers-for-glowing-skin/

Thank you so much for this Kate! I’m getting married in September and want a classic make up look and still want to look like myself. This is so helpful! I’ve been having the hardest time trying to figure out what kind of foundation to wear and I’m glad to hear the Tarte one is great!

My question is, do you think it’s still a big concern whether or not there is SPF in a foundation for photography flashback? It’s in almost every foundation these days!

Gorgeous!! I am going to use these tips for my upcoming maternity photos, which will be taken outdoors. (I especially love the idea of contouring the jaw line.) Also — love the earrings!!

I love your simplicity and awesome sense of style! On that note, would you mind sharing where that cute top comes from?

Thanks so much!

You are so stunning Kate! I love this look! I loved my makeup for my wedding, but sometimes when I went back to pictures, I wish I had went for a more simplistic look! Love the lip color on you too!

I know Colgate must’ve made you say it, but I lol’ed every time I read “designer smile.” Think of a new tagline, Colgate! Or at least stop making bloggers use that one 🙂

Hi Kate. I’ve seen multiple people comment over the past few days about how you are losing them as readers because of all the sponsored content. Why do you delete those comments?
I am genuinely wondering and not being snarky. Please don’t delete this one also!

My comment policy can be found on my FAQ page! Usually there is more to a comment than someone just saying they are leaving my blog, and if it falls under a certain part of my policy, it’s removed.

I think it’s so odd that people would be so upset over sponsored posts. You put out free- to- them content regularly! You are a real person doing a real job! To keep it going, obviously you need to be paid. You should ask if they would be able to do their job for free and still support themselves. Anyways, I don’t mind the sponsored posts, I appreciate what you put out there and even the ad posts seem to a lot of times be products I don’t mind hearing about. A lot of times you post about ways to use them that get the most out of the product (that I wouldn’t have known otherwise) so keep doing what you are doing, it’s great!

This look is so pretty! Your lashes look so long. Is this a new mascara? I’ve noticed since I began reading your blog that when I’m shopping for a new product I do a quick search to see if you’ve tried it and mentioned it. I would also love to know what skin care products you’ve been using lately.

I love how simple yet put together this look is! I could really use this with a busy life raising 2 little girls and one more on the way. I like how natural the bronzer looks on you. What brand and color did you use? I have a hard time finding one that isn’t too warm or shimmery. Thanks!!

I just want to say that I love your makeup looks, but I also LOVE when you share photos of your makeup-free fresh face. BOTH looks are gorgeous in different ways. As another blonde with nearly invisible eyelashes, those fresh-faced photos really help me relate to you. 🙂 Thank you for continuing to share yourself with us through your blog.

Hi Kate! What brown eyeliner are you wearing on the lower lash line? I’m doing my own makeup for my wedding and need a good waterproof lighter liner because I’m scared if I use eyeshadow like I normally do it will run all over! Thanks!

Gorgeous! I love the goldish shadow for the eyes! Still trying to get used to the whole contouring idea. It looks great on the face, but… Oh, I don’t know. I need to be brave and keep practicing. 🙂
