curlingclass

Guys. My dreams have come true and I finally held a live curling class at a beautiful local Blow Dry Bar called Blown Away. The set up was ideal for teaching a class, so as soon as I walked into the salon I knew it would be the right fit!

Nicole, my right hand gal for all things biz related (I’ll introduce her on the blog soon!) took care of every single little detail including delicious smoothies from bGood, a restaurant right next door to Blown Away.

The little swag bags were full of my FAVORITE products. Kenra Volume 25 Hairspray, Amika Un.Done Texture Spray, and the Cricket Pro 35 comb. I threw in a few duckbill clips, and my sister sent some pretty little fabric elastics for ponytail days!

The hair could not have been done without the products and tools! I asked each attendee to bring their own curling iron that they are already comfortable with and come with straight hair! Here is the group of ladies before:

I spent a bit of time talking about common curling issues, and shared a few tips to be aware of before I started. And then we got into the curling! I did my best to keep my own hands out of their hair and just watched/corrected as I saw them work. I wanted them to feel the difference in properly curling versus not, and seeing how sectioning makes such a huge difference!

After everyone was curled I went through a finished everyone with texture spray, teasing and a bit of hairspray. I offered tips for different hair textures as well!

And here is the group afterwards! Don’t they look gorgeous?!

I have another class coming up this Saturday evening and there are going to be 2 final tickets released tomorrow morning at 9:00am EST!!  If there is one thing I learned through this process it’s that there is quite a bit of interest in learning the styling basics! I hope to offer more classes this fall and winter!

Huge thank you to Blown Away, Kenra, Amika, Cricket, Elisabeth Ashlie and bGood!

just moved to Durham in the Southpoint area. I’m a 49 year old woman that has a cabinet of curling irons, straighteners, pins countless hair ideas but does not have a clue how to do my hair. Would love to attend a class. Great idea.

I would love to take a class like this. I have a terrible, terrible time getting curl to stay in my hair–I’m sure it must be something wrong with my technique (or lack thereof!)

So when are you coming to Utah to do a curling class? I have LONG, THICK (but fine)STRAIGHT hair and I can’t keep a curl in it, I need help. I’ve read on your blog, that you come to Utah skiing, you should do a class when you come I would be there for sure, even if I have to take the day off and travel to Park City. I would love how-to ideas for 2nd and 3rd day hair to. Love your blog.

Random story… Almost exactly a year ago my hubby and I headed to Raleigh for a friend’s wedding (we live in California). I booked an online appointment for my friend and I to get a blowout at Blown Away. Little did I know they were BRAND new and actually were opening the salon the day I booked. Something with an electrical inspection happened and put off the opening. I got a call from the owners who invited us to one of their homes to have our blowout done for free. Even in the unusual setup they were AMAZING! We ended up having the BEST time and I would recommend Blown Away to EVERYONE!!!

Bridget says · 10.01.15

You all, you don’t need Kate for this. ask the salon where you get your hair done to do this. the Aveda salon I go to held some classes several months ago, and plan to do more.

Why do women take group shots like that? there is no need to bend down in front, it makes everyone look akward

Hi Kate! Is there any chance you would consider a waiting list for future classes? I love in Raleigh, but I’m always at work at 9am without access to the Internet. ?? Please and thank you!

What is Amika and is it OTC? I live in a very small town about 2 hours from a mall or specialized botique. I would like to try it but don’t know where to get it.

Have you thought of offering online classes periodically via Skype or some other format? That would be an incredible way to reach your readers who don’t live close to you and aren’t able to attend a class in person. I’d certainly pay for an online class you offered!

I don’t want to take away from your curling classes, but given that I live in Canada and highly doubt I’ll be getting down to NC anytime soon, I would really appreciate a video or tutorial on proper sectioning for curling! 🙂

All the ladies look great, but, no one had bangs. I have to have bangs my forehead just doesn’t look good. Problem is when I curl the other part of my hair my bangs really show as being short and kind of make me look not even. Short bangs long hair. Oh the dilemma.
