Casual Spring Dresses

Hello from Bluffton!

Β It’s not unusual for the seasons to rapidly shift here in North Carolina. We’ll have winter like temperatures one week, and 80 degrees and humid the next.

Dresses are my top choice for staying cool and comfortable, and I’ve rounded up some of my favorite casual dresses for a warm spring day.

I bought this one from Old Navy recently and love it! And you know what I did? I ordered it in tall. I’m not tall, in fact Justin and I made a return to StrideRite last weekend and I humbly measured myself along with the other kids in the store to see how tall I actually was.

As it turns out I’m 5’5”. Anyway, I ordered the dress in a tall so it wouldn’t be too short on me while I play with the boys. And it’s *perfect*.

I’m most tempted by the Corrie short sleeve dress (#4) but I’m not sure if it will be too short?

I ended up returning the blush colored dress from H&M because it was a little too clingy. Otherwise it would have been perfection. If you don’t have leftover baby weight to hide, definitely check this dress out.

I’ll likely pair my New Balance sneakers with these dresses, or just simple nude sandals.

I order tall dresses from ON all the time. I’m 5’7” so I am on the cusp but it is almost always better to have the tall!

How do you manage breastfeeding Luke in a dress? I’m 7 months into nursing my second child (after 17 months of nursing my first) and I still can’t figure out how to make dresses work. They were my go-to summer wardrobe and I miss them fiercely!

If my dress is not “breastfeeding friendly” (i.e, can’t pull the top down), I just make sure to wear a slip (or even bicycle shorts would work) underneath, and I pull the whole thing up. I only do that in private, which makes it tough if we’re out and about, but so far I’ve made it work just fine. If nothing else, I can always feed the baby in my far and no one will know my dress is up around my chest, lol! (For the record, I’m a huge nursing in public advocate, and do it regularly, but I’m just NOT pulling up my dress for all to see, even if I’m wearing a dark slip underneath!) ( :

How does it look with a dress and shoes? I can’t imagine it.. a picture would be a great visual!

That is a great idea to order a tall! I’ve seen some “dresses” on people lately that look waaaay too much like shirts (that need pants under them). πŸ˜‰ πŸ™‚

Are you still breastfeeding? I breastfeed my 4 month old daughter and I’d love to see a blog about nursing style/ideas for summer! It can be tricky when I have to consider how to access my boobs for each outfit.

I just finished nursing my second baby girl and loved dresses, too. Some were tricky, but I looked for those with a rounded scoop neckline or cross front/over lapping wrap style at the chest, and then wore a regular stretchy came under it (not a nursing one). They weren’t as bulky as my favorite nursing camis, and the stretch made everything accessible. Old navy has the most dresses with the low neck/wrap style. Other dress ideas were those that had buttons at the chest or even a shirt dress, but shirtdresses weren’t flattering on me personally. I looked for any dress that could be “opened” from the top. So, boat neck and higher neck were out for the time being.

I agree, I am about to deliver(5 weeks left), and am really struggling with what kind of wardrobe I need to invest in to make breast feeding and having at least a little bit of style besides doing my hair and make-up on a daily basis.

Comfy summer dresses are seriously the best. I find that most of them are too short for me since I’m 5’9 and I HAVE to buy them all in tall. Even then sometimes the length isn’t long enough. Have a great long weekend!

What a great idea to make it a little longer! Love it! πŸ™‚

I would never have thought to order a dress in tall! That’s genius. I have a long torso and short legs, so that would actually help me out a lot!
Love all the stripes πŸ™‚

Um, why have I never thought to buy a dress in TALL!? I am about 5’4, so not very tall, but with all the junk in my trunk, the backs of my dresses always feel uncomfortably short. Brilliant.
