The Fishtail Twist Updo Tutorial

I can’t enter the giveaway because I live in Canada but I still wanted to pop in and say that this is a GORGEOUS updo and I can’t wait to try it!

I love the soft curls “old Hollywood” look. It screams feminine!

I love a classic put together look. I am not a big fan of looks that are too out there for awards shows.

I like the pretty and feminine looks but want to still recognize the person. Nothing too out of the norm.

I love it when natural beauty is just enhanced with makeup and soft hairstyles. Heavy makeup and crazy hair makes me feel like they are still in character mode and not really themselves!

it depends on the dress for me. some need that soft natural look but there are others where i think a severe updo is the way to go.

As much as I like a slick updo, as far as a red carpet event I would think a soft, lived in style would be so much more practical. It can go with so many different dress styles and all you’d need was a few bobby pins in your purse to fix any fly aways. I’ll definitely be trying this for my next choir concert!

I am always amazed by some of the looks but the ones I LOVE the most tend to be the more romantic feminine flowy style. If only I had a reason to get dressed up like that! Also, LOVE this hairstyle. I’m in a wedding in May and this just got put on the shortlist for how to do my hair.

I’m a fan of the softer looks!

I love the soft, not so overdone, look. A bit messy but put together. What I don’t like is when they are all dressed up and wear there hair in an “everyday” look, hanging down straight. I have watched just about every tutorial you have done and have recreated many of the looks pretty darn good!

I would have to vote the “effortless” red carpet look as my favorite. When the hair is not too overdone and looks “lived-in”. Perfection!

I love soft curls/waves (with some volume, because who wants flat hair?) It’s always classy.

I love any sort of detailed style, where you can’t help but stare and think “how’d they do that?!”.

I love more natural, soft looking hair, whether up or down. My very least favorite thing is hair slicked down to the head. It makes people look bald. I really love this hairstyle you put together!

For the red-carpet, i love a glamorous updo, especially if it looks like an effortless updo, with bold make-up.

I love seeing anything with side-swept bangs and loose curls. I love some volume too! Pretty and glamourous.

I always LOVE your hair tutorials. You seriously taught me how to do my hair and really saved my sanity when it came to that (I’m really sensitive about my hair). My hair is too short to pull back now, but this is a gorgeous updo. You make it look so easy.

I absolutely love the soft updos! I’m always a fan of the looser, more graceful and natural-looking curls. My particular favorite is one that Julianne Hough wore to a benefit in Beverly Hills. It’s definitely popular on pinterest and would make for a great hair tutorial in the future! 😉

I think it really depends on the dress, but it always seems like the less “fussy” the look is, the more attention it gets. For myself, I like the softer, more feminine look 🙂

Hi! I have tried several of your hair tutorials with excellent – good success 🙂 I really appreciate having these to go to. I *so* wanted to have this fishtail twist updo come out right, but after trying twice with dismal results, i gave up. i couldn’t really see what you were doing when you did the “knots”. When I tried it they just looked like,well, little knots in a lock of my hair! My hair is pretty fine, & I used a dry shampoo before starting to give it some texture, but maybe I need something more, like a texture powder Anyway, it would be amazing if you could maybe do an auxiliary video to this one showing a little more detail on how you do those knots. Thank you so much for all you share on your blog! I loves it, lol!

This was much more difficult than you make it look. The fishtale braid I can do, the updo part, not so much. Is there a tutorial where you explain better how to do the messy updo part? It just didn’t turn out at all. I have pretty long hair so that may have been part of it. I’m going to try the easy updo first then maybe work on this more difficult one. I’d much rather learn how to do this myself then pay someone to do it.
