When my siblings and I were younger, our mom would take us to this store called “the boathouse” in the summer. We spent a lot of time at our family lake house in Wisconsin, and the boathouse store was a favorite for all three of us.

It was not, in fact, a boat house but it was a bookstore. You tied a string to a cardboard box, and pulled that behind you as you walked the aisles (which were simply rows of tables) and picked out the books you wanted. It was small enough for the three of us to separate and my mom could still have an eye on all of us.

I vividly remember always going straight for the “fossil and rock kits” that, I’m now realizing, were not books at all. They were educational though, so it was sort of fitting for them to be at the boathouse anyway.

I had this fascination with rocks and loved looking through the clear compartments to see which stones were included in the set.

As I was rounding up my favorite rose quartz jewelry for this post, I couldn’t help but think of those little kits that I had and loved!

I don’t wear a lot of pink. In fact, I think I only own 1 pink top (seen in this pic), and I’ve only worn it a handful of times.

Pink jewelry, though, is a favorite of mine. I prefer rose gold to yellow gold, and am a sucker for anything made with rose quartz.

All of the jewelry pictured is from Etsy, which is quickly becoming my favorite place to browse. The talent amazes me!

Love all these pieces! Where in Wisconsin do you guys go? My whole family is in Door County so I’ve been going there every summer for my entire life. It is my favorite place in the world!

oh man! I grew up going to Door County as a kid! 🙂 The lake house is in southern Wisconsin, just about 45 min’s over the border of Illinois

This sounds like the boathouse bookstore in Racine, WI. I was born in Racine but moved away at 3. I have the best memories going there as a kid with my Grandparents!!

OH My Gosh! That is just too funny! Such a small world!! ! I can’t wait to take our son up there to enjoy the lake, the zoo and the 4th of July Parade! Our old family home was off of Main Street and just a block or two from the lake with a perfect parade spot! Glad to hear someone else also enjoyed the Boathouse as much as our family!

I like the simplicity of the color… I tend to pick bold pinks, but these are a very calm beauty 🙂

These pieces are lovely! Did you know that in Chinese feng shui, rose quartz is the gemstone for “love and affection”?

Like you, I also prefer rose gold over yellow gold. In fact, we had customized rose & white gold wedding rings. 🙂

You don’t wear a lot of pink?!? That’s pretty much all I wear!!! 🙂 So when I opened up your blog today and spotted all the rose quartz, I was enamored. I just wish some of them had white gold/silver…I don’t really wear yellow gold. I bet I could find some on Etsy….more things to add to my wish list…

You should wear pink more often! It’s a great color for blondes (coming from a blonde lol). I am also a sucker for all things rose gold and pink quarts. There is no such thing as too much pink!

Thank you so much Kate! I live in Wisconsin and actually found your blog about a week before you had David. I started reading it because you are originally from up here, and I love it and look forward to reading your posts. Your son is so adorable, I just love Wednesdays when you post either about him or your new bundle of joy (Congratulations!). Thank you so much Kate!

Hello Kate. I absolutely love your blog. It has inspired me to learn how to do hair. I also have a question. I went to my stylist whom I have known for over 20 years and told her exactly what I wanted. Blonde highlights with a few lowlights. She always tells me that’s not what I want. I tell her it is but she did what she wanted put more lowlights than highlights and they turned brassy orange. I told her she had to fix it and she refuses. What can I do? I would greatly appreciate any advice! Thank You!
