way behind

learning hand lettering

A large part of me wanted to spend a good 2 hours at the computer last night working on a post for today but I decided not to. Why? Because I was tired and because I tell people not to put rushed & cruddy content up on your site just for the sake up putting content up there.

The time that could have been spent on content this week was spent troubleshooting a cache issue on my website. Some readers aren’t able to see any new posts since mid-june. I’ve received comments asking if I’m on a blog break, which I’m not!

So, I’ve been doing my best, and reaching out for help, to figure out the problem. Wordpress, as it turns out, isn’t a walk in the park. Truthfully, I’m disenchanted and am beginning to regret the switch.

But, it’s too late. I’m here. And eventually things will get fixed. Right? Tell me I’m right.

So, I’ve got nothing for you today. I’m way behind on content andΒ I hate that feeling.

I’m working a bit this weekend to make up for it, so my plan is to come back next week refreshed and caught up!

Have a great, restful weekend! I imagineΒ I’ll be taking peach breaks every 30 minutes because the peaches I picked up at the farmers market yesterday were amazing.

Hooray for peach season!

That has to be so frustrating for you. I hope you find time to relax this weekend!

Sara says · 07.11.14

I wasn’t able to see any new posts for a while either, so I just unsubscribed and re-added it to my reader and it fixed things. Just a suggestion for others having the same issue! p.s. I use digg.com for my reader and while it’s no Google Reader, it’s pretty good!

Tanya says · 07.11.14

I just realized today that I hadn’t had a blog post in my inbox for weeks, and popped over today to see why. This explains it. (I think it took so long to notice because I see your Instagram posts so you weren’t completely gone.)

I’ll try this suggestion of unsubscribe and re-add.

stephanie says · 07.11.14

i can see all your new posts through chrome. every single day. happy friday!

Heather says · 07.11.14

I can as well Kate! I wish I could offer more help but I found wordpress so debilitatingly painful to use – but I have no patience at all. Absolutely none. (Which we all know you have plenty!) No worries – it’ll get better!

Karlie Allen says · 07.12.14

I am also always able to see your posts through safari πŸ™‚ Hope everything goes more smooth for you! πŸ™‚ Have a good weekend!

Chanan Bond says · 07.11.14

My hubby & I own & operate a small online home business. So. Much. To. Learn. Always there are new things to learn, upgrade, adjustments, etc. I feel for you, but I know you get it worked out.
I have a tiny, neglected blog on blogger which, when I have the time I love everything about Blogger. Actually, I almost followed you to WordPress. I’m thinking twice about switching. Keep us posted while you “get the bugs out”.
Strawberries are in season here in Northern Maine; came home with several quarts of the juicy, red beauties which my four boys almost immediately gobbled down!
Have an awesome weekend.

Kristie says · 07.11.14

I haven’t had any issues seeing your stuff since the switch. I did have to make a new bookmark of your blog on safari once you switched to Wordpress, but no other issues.

Whitney @ Come Home For Comfort says · 07.11.14

I read through Bloglovin and haven’t had any trouble – sometimes I click through Facebook and that always works too.

I’m sorry you’re having so much trouble!

nancy says · 07.11.14

sorry about the blogging issues…I know there’s a problem with blogger too…I’m just too technically challenged to figure it out. ha! and I too am a peach aficionado. we just returned home from driving to savannah from texas and I made my husband drive 100 miles out of the way to get peaches from a place in Barney, Georgia where I swear I think the best peaches on earth come from. ha!

Lauren Ford says · 07.11.14

I see your blog posts, old and new, with no problems. But, I use my good old home Dell pc and Chrome. Your website is on my early morning, list of must visits along with Houzz, Martha Stewart, etc. Also no problems on my iPad.

Aimee says · 07.11.14

Kate, good luck getting caught up with everything this weekend. I hope you get things sorted out for your own sanity! I know how frustrating it can be to spend hours in front of the computer with no real progress, any consolation I haven’t had any problem seeing your new posts! πŸ™‚ Don’t work too hard this weekend, make sure to enjoy some time with your family! Aimee

Amanda & Mel says · 07.11.14

We hear you, we went over a year without posting because life got in the way:) Your blog is amazing, we love it! Good luck this weekend!

Abby says · 07.11.14

How frustrating that must be! Thank you for your honesty, as we all get behind on things from time to time. Your posts have been wonderful so keep your head up. Have a restful weekend & enjoy your peaches πŸ™‚

Kristina says · 07.11.14

I thought you were on a blog break too! For some reason your feed stopped working with GFC, but I can see all of your new content in Bloglovin.

Take your time. πŸ™‚

Hata Trbonja says · 07.11.14

Oh My Goodness!!!!
I am absolutely on board with you about wordpress.
I followed the hype instead of my heart and here I am. I can’t stand it and trying to fix anything is like taking an advanced physics course. Blech!
I can’t upload any images so I have to do this roundabout way of doing it. Its a pain in my rear.
Thank you for saying that you hate it too. I feel like other bloggers think I am crazy.
Good luck to all of us.

(boooo wordpress! hisssssss)

Erika says · 07.11.14

Wait, hang on. Why can’t you upload photos?

Candace says · 07.11.14

No worries! Enjoy your day today, eating your yummy peaches!
I know your readers aren’t going anywhere… we love you!!!
I look forward to your posts every day, and have tried most of the products you say are fabulous!
Have a great weekend!!!
Hugs, Candace

Erin says · 07.11.14

Agreed! Take yourself some time to refresh- love your blog, love your content!

Marisa says · 07.11.14

I couldn’t see posts for a few days at first but I re-added you on Bloglovin’ and there you were! Don’t stress too hard! I couldn’t get blogger to work for almost 9 months!!! It happens to all of us.

Erika says · 07.11.14

Question: Is it that readers weren’t seeing your posts on their reader/in their email, or would they come to your website and it literally looked like it hadn’t been updated in a month?

Lori-Ann says · 07.11.14

You’re right!

Melissa says · 07.11.14

Oh that is SOOO frustrating! I love blogging but sometimes the technical aspect makes me think its beyond my skill set.I have self hosted on Wordpress for about 3 years now with no real issues, but I don’t have that much traffic and I just use a Wordpress theme.

Katie says · 07.11.14

I just want to say that these issues in NO WAY affect my readership or my opinion of you as a blogger. Stuff happens…when you get it straightened out, I’ll be here. And it will get straightened out. Have a great weekend! πŸ™‚

Mollie says · 07.11.14

I can see your post, no problem, on my computer or laptop. The only time I have issues is when I attempt to view it on my ipad. I’m not too sure if that info helps, but I thought I’d let you know! Such a fun read!

Holly says · 07.11.14

So odd! I use my iPad to view Kate’s blog every day and haven’t had any problems seeing new posts.

I’m so sorry, Kate! I know this must be incredibly frustrating. We readers aren’t going anywhere though! So take your time figuring it out. πŸ™‚ Enjoy your yummy peaches!

Lori says · 07.11.14

Soooo I admit I know nothing about blogging so how come you can’t switch back? Did you have to pay to be on WordPress or something?

Melissa says · 07.11.14

WordPress is no joke. It’s all Greek to me. Thank goodness I have a hubby who works in IT and if anything goes wrong I just hand him my computer and say “Fix it please!” and he does. I’m a bit spoiled that way. But I hear ya on the frustration. There are times when I’m like “What the heck was I thinking, this is way too complicated and I want to burn it!!!” and times when it’s all “Oh look at all the super cool options I have! Yay!!!”

Hope you get it figured out and that you find a WordPress guru to help you!

Megan M. says · 07.11.14

I haven’t had any issues Kate. I usually see your new posts on Facebook and come over from there. When you started mentioning people were having issues I deleted my bookmark and re-bookmarked your site. I don’t use any kind of RSS feed service.

Patti says · 07.11.14

I haven’t had any issues Kate. Love your blog and makeup and life tips. Don’t stress about it…Be still…if will resolve. In the meantime enjoy that precious baby and eating those peaches! πŸ™‚ Have a nice summer weekend!

Susan says · 07.11.14

You’re the only one that knows you’re behind so just catch up as you can in between David snuggles! πŸ™‚

suzyhomemaker says · 07.11.14

I just had to comment. I LOVE blogger and although thought for a second of switching, I am so glad I have not. I have yet to find a good reason to not use blogger. I have had no issues and have used it over 5 years! I even wrote a post about why people don’t have to switch to WordPress because I was so frustrated with everyone thinking it is better.

I say switch back. I cannot tell you how many times I hear of people having issues with plugins, updates, security, etc. Not worth it to me at all.

Jess says · 07.11.14

I had to just re-add your blog address to my blog roll twice before it finally worked πŸ™‚

Evelyn says · 07.11.14

That sucks! But I have had no problem accessing you website and I get all the emails. I use Chrome.

Jasmin says · 07.11.14

I feel sorry for the people who haven’t been getting your content since June! πŸ˜‰ Hope you have a great weekend! You’re awesome!

Lorraine says · 07.11.14

I just found your blog via INkybee. I’m on a quest to find high quality beauty bloggers to connect with. Your blog is VERY well done! Give yourself a pat on the back and a break πŸ™‚

Jen says · 07.11.14

I subscribe through email, and for weeks almost months have not been getting a lot of emails. I used to get around 60-70 emails a day from blogs I read and instead I was only getting like 10 emails from stores that I have shopped at. So it might be a universal issue. Glad to have you back in my email!

Holly Hart says · 07.11.14

Sometimes I think we forget how much goes into a blog post! I appreciate each and every one!

Michelle says · 07.11.14

I haven’t had any trouble finding you. It will get fixed, eventually everything works out. Good or bad we get through it. But don’t take time away from your family on this. They are what is important. I know this is how you make your living, but family first.

Sara W says · 07.11.14

As others have said, nobody knows what posts you’d planned, but I know it’s stressful to have them in your head (my blog has been languishing since first trimester blahs and a husband gone for a month and, and… Be kind to yourself-your blog is beautiful and there are tons of ways for readers to stay connected to you via your posts on Facebook and Instagram so keep on keep in’ on-you’re great!

Kristin S says · 07.11.14

I’m so sorry for the glitch.

When I realized it, I just deleted the old “feed” and added a new one. The blog address was a bit different. No biggie. C’mon readers, Kate wouldn’t let us down.

David Morton says · 07.11.14

Hey Kate!

My wife reads your blog and told me about your WordPress issues. I am a WordPress developer and have a lot of experience in training and support. If you or any of your readers need any help let me know. I’m also just down the road in NC. Hope everything is worked out!

heather says · 07.11.14

I can see your new posts on my phone but not my laptop. When I go to your site using Chrome the most recent post I can see is about baby boy clothes.

Bonnie says · 07.11.14

Hi Kate, sorry to hear about all the issues with Wordpress! So frustrating. I have your blog linked as a favorite on my own blog (on Blogger). Initially after you switched to Wordpress, I wasn’t able to see any new updates on your blog. However, after I deleted the ‘old’ link to your blog and then re-added it, I had no more issues. It totally fixed it!! Maybe other readers having issues, need to clear their cache and then make a new link or bookmark to your blog to resolve it…

Luisa says · 07.12.14

Oh.. don’t put too much pressure on yourself! I btw, can see all your posts – even in rss feed. I’m using Firefox if that helps to locate the problem.

Have a nice weekend and relax a little.

Emily says · 07.12.14

No words of wisdom for Wordpress, but I do want to encourage you to give yourself a little grace this weekend and relax. Those if us awake at 6 am on a Saturday with a baby who wouldn’t go back to sleep until after the first cup of coffee can always look through your archives πŸ˜‰

Heather says · 07.12.14

I must be mad but I quite like Wordpress but then I’m new to blogging….I love that I can edit straight in the HTML, but I’m a little geeky also.

Feel free to check out my blog and provide feedback to this newbie πŸ™‚

Angie Meeker says · 07.12.14

Hi Kate,

I’m a reader of your site, and also a WordPress developer (actually came to the site this morning to get a pic for a haircut today!). I’d love to help you get your issues sorted out. If you need help, shoot me an email at angie at angiemeekerdesigns dot com.

Michelle says · 07.12.14

I am new to your blog, and am glad you are still here!

Sarah Burkhardt says · 07.12.14

I’ve also been having problems on WordPress lately, and am also wondering if I should’ve switched over from Google’s Blogger or not. Although there wan’t content to this post, its nice that you are communicating to your subscribers. I am also a new subscriber!!!! I love the minimalism of your blog, so much that I nominated you for the Beaut Blogger of the Month Award at Cecilia’s Corner with Cecilia Liu. http://ceciliascorner.net/2014/07/04/the-beauty-blogger-of-the-month-award-benefit-push-up-eyeliner-giveaway/#comment-319
This is just a small award connecting all fellow bloggers together! Hope you enter, can’t wait for more posts

Chelsea says · 07.12.14

https://ghost.org and http://www.squarespace.com/#smallbusiness are the up and coming alternatives to wordpress. I’m willing to bet that by your next update you will be more than ready to switch!

Stephanie says · 07.12.14

Kate, first and foremost you are a mother. You do not need to feel guilty for not having time to post. Being Mama is a blessing, but can also be overwhelming with balancing everything. I admire you! I love your blog and think that you put a lot of heart into each post. I can say because of you and this blog, I now love my hair, and look forward to all posts about beauty! As a Mama of 3 it nice and refreshing to have something as simple as this blog to look forward too.
I hope you take some time for yourself this weekend and enjoy!

Christy Lee says · 07.13.14

As a graphic designer / light developer, Wordpress is GREAT! Just give it time! The cache issue is generally a back-end issue (in the coding) and can be fixed!

As a temporary fix, request that your followers try refreshing the page after they load your website. That often forces the browser (whichever it may be) to let go of what is cached and refresh the whole website and as a result your new content should load.

Nina says · 07.13.14

No worries Kate enjoy the time with your family. Looking forwarded to what you have in store for us.

Airland says · 07.14.14

If it’s helpful, I can’t get an updated version of the site on Firefox, but I can on Safari. The Firefox site shows the baby boy clothes post as the most recent. I’m glad to know I was f the only one!

Nicole says · 07.14.14

Hi Kate-
It is odd that I can’t see you on my Ipad but I can when I log into my laptop. Hang in there! Keep us posted if there is anything we can do to improve the process! Still loving your blog!

Julia says · 07.14.14

It’s very important to be able to disconnect too!!!

Leah says · 07.15.14

I realized a while back that I couldn’t see your site through my phone. So the mobile portion isn’t working. However when I go to your blog on my computer it works. There seems to just be a issue on the mobile site!! But I will continue to get my small things blog fix on my computer!!!!!

Kelsey S says · 07.15.14

I have not been able to see posts since your June Birchbox one on Google Chrome, but can see them fine if I use internet explorer. Just FYI.

Rebecca Spellmeyer says · 07.17.14

I am not a fan of wordpress either. There is blog that is about nothing but hurting people by twisting things around or posting flat out lies. I emailed them and asked nicely to remove that libelous content and they said I have to have a court order. As far as I am concerned they are no better than Facebook because they both make it easy to harass people but give no help to the person being harassed. I am currently on a 30 day FB ban for a pic of me but another page that has the same pic of me is not in violation. Explain that?

water damage pittsburgh says · 09.18.14

I do consider all of the ideas you have offered tto your post.

They are really convincing and will definitely work.
Nonetheless, the posts are very quick for beginners.
May just you please lengthen them a little from next time?

Thank you forr the post.
