The top 5 mistakes I’ve made as a Blogger (online class)

Welcome to August!

It’s time for my monthly “favorites” video. In these videos, I grab the products I’ve loved most over the previous month and share them with you! You can watch my last favorites video here!

Unfortunately there are no cat tricks in this video, but there is a portion where I confess that I’ve been lying. That was interesting.

Kate when it comes to stretch marks, a lot of it is genetic. If your mom got a lot of them chances are you will get them too. Of course, the moisturizing always helps!

Careful with the moving! Thanks for the great video, as always.<3

Agreed! I didn’t use a drop of anything on my belly while pregnant and don’t have any marks. I always thought those creams were silly. It’s like cellulite. You got what you got!

I do not really like Burt’s Bees products for me either, but I must say I LOVE their baby products for my girls. Their diaper rash cream is my favorite because it is so thick and coats so well, although that makes it a little hard to get out the tube. If you do buy any of their products I recommend not buying the fragrance free ones. They are not bad pr anything, but they will make your baby smell like straight fruit loops.

What was the eyeliner from Mac that was specialized for the water line? I’m interested in that!

Every time you talk about the naked 2 palette, it makes me feel like I can justify buying it! So stop! 😉 Loved the Grits appearance, and I’ll be sure NOT to buy the turkey basting lotion, lol!

Kate – I’m a new follower and have to say, I LOVE your blog! You are adorable and so fun to follow. Anyway, wanted to tell you about a lotion that I recently bought and have absolutely loved! I’m super picky when it comes to lotions because I don’t want it to be sticky or feel too thick on my skin (i.e. I need to be able to pull jeans on without feeling like I gained 10lbs since the last time I wore them!) but it still needs to moisturize my dry skin. I have been using the “yes to carrots” body lotion and its amazing! Leaves my skin so soft and moisturized, and has a pleasant but not strong scent. I think I found the lotion I will keep buying over and over. Ok, just thought I’d share 🙂 Thanks for all of your beauty tips!

You just make me laugh!!! Thanks!!! I had tons of people (including my sisters) tell me that stretch marks are a result of genetics and not the lack of using lotion. I think they are all wrong. Both of my sisters got horrible stretch marks. I have had 3 kids (my last was huge). I have zero stretch marks from any of my pregnancies. I claim that it is because I stayed hydrated on the inside and outside. As a teenage a got stretch marks when I had a quick growth spurt (so I know I can get them). My advise (for whatever it’s worth) drink a ton of water (I carried a water bottle everywhere), and enjoy your lotion. Best of luck!!!

I used Bio-Oil during pregnancy (and for about 2 months postpartum) and I don’t have any stretch marks. Again, this could be pure *luck* or genetics. But I like to believe the Bio Oil that I used morning and night did the trick. 🙂 Plus, it didn’t smell – bonus.

I have an 8 week old little boy snuggled up napping in his crib right now (thank you Jesus the boy is sleeping)

I used Beautifying oil by Aveda all over my tummy for the entire 9 months. Not one stretch mark! It smells AMAZING! Its not marketed as a stretch mark oil but it is one of my favorite products. Its ultra moisturizing and like I said, the smell is amazing!

I don’t love Burts Bee’s for me. But, I do love their baby wash and lotion for our little guy. He seems to like it and its not girly smelling (most baby shampoo/lotions smell like lavender, and no boy needs to smell like that, ha)

uh oh, I think he just woke up…

Haha I enjoyed the silliness of this video. Maybe you’re not buying as many products because you’ve been shopping for baby things instead?!

LOL!! Love your videos! This one made me smile. I have to put a plug in for Burt’s Bees Diaper Rash Cream since you’re talking about B.B. products. It works awesome for stubborn diaper rash. Their baby products are pretty great. 🙂

I have been following your blog for awhile but have never commented before. I am also pregnant (due in November…also having a boy!) and I have been using the Burt’s Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter to try to, at least, minimize the stretch marks. I like it a lot. It’s thick and the smell is pretty mild. I use it all over my torso and so far so good! So if you decide not to continue using the California Baby product, you might want to try this one.

I love your blog! Your beauty, fashion and hair tips are great.

Hi! Congrats on your pregnancy! I really enjoy your blog and tutorials- so thank you! I do agree that genetics play a major role, but I am 37 weeks along and my stomach and chest look pretty good (although I don’t want to jinx it with 3 weeks to go). Your other reader was right about hydration inside and out for sure!! I have been using the Burt’s Bee’s Mama Bee Nourishing Body Oil and the Mama Bee Belly Butter. The body oil smells like lemon and almond and is quite “oily” but seems to be doing the trick. I apply it after I get out of the shower and let it air dry a bit before getting dressed. At night, the belly butter goes on easily and has a nice consistency! This one seems to be fragrance-free. Overall, I have been really happy with both products! My pregnant girlfriends swear by the Mama Mio line – I never got around to trying it because they are at a higher price point than the Burt’s Bee’s, but no stretch marks for those ladies either. And since you opened up the conversation to pregnancy products – as far as body wash – I have been loving Alpine Made Goat Milk Soap in Sage and Mint or Oatmeal and Lavender – local business, all natural and smells like a spa!! Super relaxing! (http://www.alpinemade.com/) Lastly, when your belly starts getting bigger – I recommend purchasing the Leachco Snoogle Body Pillow. I know, I know, another stupid pregnancy expense but I could not have survived without it! It curves (U-shape) at the top and bottom which works great for back and leg/hip support when it is behind you and amazing for belly and leg/hip support when you face it/put it around your neck, under your belly, and between your legs. Anyways – I am no expert, especially since this is my first babe, but figured I’d pass along what has been keeping me comfortable :o) Best wishes to you!

Thank you so much for making my non-lunch break so entertaining. I have grown to look so forward to your favorites videos! They always make me smile and brighten my day! 🙂 Thank you for being so real an honest and providing a genuine review of all the products you feature…it is so refreshing to find a blog where the opinions are not overshadowed. And you are absolutley adorable pregnant…hope I am that fortunate one day!

I’m not sure that stretch marks have anything to do with genetics. I always hear that, but I got a TON of them, and my mom didn’t get any at all with either of her pregnancies. I used a lotion for stretch marks every day of my pregnancy, and drank nothing but water, too. I think if you’re gonna get them, you’re just gonna get them no matter what you do! But you know what? They’re just your tiger stripes and will always remind you of this special time. ( :

A product on the favorites video that isn’t a favorite…gotta love it!

Your complexion is perfection on this video. Almost airbrushed looking.

You must try Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap. You will love it. Less expensive at Trader Joe’s than at Target or my local health food market, I believe.

I’m guessing Essie Watermelon or Essie Lollipop on the fingernails. What is it?

I liked you showed a product you didn’t like. Instead of a monthly favorites video, you could do new products of the month, then just talk about the likes and dislikes of each. Everyone loves to know what to buy, but I also like to know what not to buy. You’re the best. 🙂

Janet says · 08.01.13

Haha, this video was hilarious… and I agree with previous posters that you should review everything you buy, likes & dislikes. I love hearing your review either way, because it helps me know what a professional looks for in her beauty products. I don’t buy many so I like hearing both sides, it’s educational for me.

As for Burt’s Bees, I highly recommend the Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Shampoo & Wash. It’s tear-free, and it smells like honey, so after the bath your baby smells like honey and it’s so delicious I just want to gobble them up! I lurv it!

As a mom of three boys…the oldest is 5…all born with hair…here’s a tip…Burt’s Bees baby lotion is amazing for styling their hair! Keeps it spiked, or combed over…whatever your little man’s style may be! Keeps it in place without being crunchy…and they smell so yummy!

I used baby lotion on my boys hair when they were little. Worked great and helped keep their scalp from getting dry.

I love Burt Bees diaper rash ointment and baby wash. I love giving it at baby showers. I loved that you bought the lotion because it is friends with the wash. I would stay away from from what ever that oil is so you don’t smell like a turkey. I loved that video thanks for sharing.

Hi Kate! I love your blog! It’s really inspired me to actually start doing things to my hair and not just throwing it up in a boring bun… I’m hoping to make a big change in cut/color at the end of the month- but I’m new to my area and have no idea how to go about finding a stylist! Could you maybe post some tips on how to find a good stylist in a new area?
