Outtakes + a few pregnancy notes

KSC Designs Giveaway
Justin and I had way too much fun snapping these pics for our announcement post yesterday. It was just us, the tripod and the wireless shutter release, but we had enough personality and laughs to make it fun.

Since I do these more often, I try to knock it out as quickly as possible. Justin made it fun and even had some ideas of  his own for the announcement photo.
He thought it would be fun to try to look like a rocket. When I showed him my advanced photoshop “rocket-like” additions to this concept, he agreed that the hand holding one was better. I can’t believe he wasn’t impressed with my skills.

*this is not how babies are made.

We had fun. Laughed a lot. And sweat way too much (it was about 85 and humid).
So, just to address a possible elephant in the room: naturally, I’ll write a bit about pregnancy and baby stuff on my blog but I still plan on writing about the same stuff from before I became pregnant. I am looking forward to filming more hair tutorials, and monthly favorites videos! I really had to chill out these past few weeks since I was fairly ill and e-x-h-a-u-s-t-e-d.

Thank you all so much for your kind words yesterday. I was truly so excited to share our news with you, and was overwhelmed with your excitement in return. Thanks again.

First Trimester Notes:

-So midnight feedings start at about week 7. I was pretty nauseous throughout the entire first trimester, which led to me not eating a ton (mostly crackers and ginger ale). I would wake up in the middle of the night absolutely starving and have to go downstairs and eat a bowl of cereal. Walking past my sleeping cats at 2:30a to go eat was both laughable and ridiculous.

-Bloat arrives quickly and lingers for many weeks. Wowza.

-Emotions are running on high. I’ve always been an emotional person, but now it’s just over the top. It takes almost nothing to get my nose stinging and eyes tearing up. It’s going to be a water-proof mascara several months for me!

-It’s been hard to find a diaper bag I like. I know I have a very long time until I need one, but I started browsing around online and can’t find anything that is striking a cord with me.

-Ultrasounds are pretty incredible. We heard the heartbeat at week 8 and again at week 11. It’s so surreal to be looking up at a tv screen seeing what is inside me. At the 11 week ultrasound we saw the tiny legs and arms too which was pretty awesome.

I’m due in October, and I’m have decided on the Skip Hop Duo. Their Studio diaper bag is a bit pricier but looks more like a purse and is super cute! I also purchased their Pronto! changing station. It basically looks like a large clutch, but it folds out into a changing mat, has a pocket for travel sized wipes and room for several diapers. Basically you can throw it in any purse/bag/tote you may already be carrying and you have an instant diaper bag!

Re: diaper bags

You get what you pay for. If you go on the cheap, you will be buying several. Remember that you’ll need some sort of diaper bag for at least 3 years (more if you have a second) My sister has gone through eight and has a three and a six month old.

Congrats again!

I have been through too many diaper bags, and so far my favorite isn’t even a diaper bag! It’s my Coach satchel. There’s room for diapers, wipes, a bottle and a few toys along with my every-day stuff. I do keep a Thirty-One tote in the car with change of clothes and other stuff I don’t need to carry all the time.

I am a bag-a-holic, and went though a couple with my first son. I like the Vera Bradley bag, but when we found out #2 was on the way (only got 6 weeks notice, yay adoption!!) I picked up a JuJuBe “BFF” bag. It is my favorite thing hands down. We even cloth diaper, and I can fit enough stuff for the New Guy, and extras for the Big Boy.

Also, if the thought of cloth diapering passes through your brain, hit me up for info. If you like textiles, you’ll love modern cloth diapers.

Try this http://caughtyalookin.net/content/splash/splash.html it’s a store we have here in Lexington and you can pick fabrics and MAKE your own bag–tell them where you want pockets, if you want that plastic type stuff on it to be able to wipe it off quickly. They are super sweet too.

You should try Parker & Otis in Durham, it has a little deli and a little shop with cute unique diaper bags( I wanted one as a purse until I realized it was not a purse). This would knock out 2 birds with one stone, you get to explore durham (like you said previously) & shop !

So excited for you! I just had a boy 2 weeks ago. I gifted myself with a monogrammed navy/white chevron print tote/diaper bag from SeamsSoLovely on Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/SeamsSewLovely). It has lots of pockets inside to keep me organized and has plenty of room for my baby gear and 31 wallet. It does not look like a diaper bag!

I’m an organizational freak and the idea of the label pockets inside get me all excited, however, the price tag DOES NOT but I think we deserve to be a little spoiled after surviving the first trimester!

I’m not gonna go through all 120+ comments that are already on here to see if it’s been mentioned before, but I really love my Ju Ju Be diaper bag. I got it for my 2nd baby and I love, love, love it. I went through 2 diapers bags on my 1st and I didn’t love either one. I like the Ju Ju Be’s because they’re designed by mom’s, so they’re chock-full of features that mom’s appreciate.
Whatever brand you end up getting, look for one with a light colored interior. it really helps your items not get lost in the abyss that takes over your bag.
And super huge congrats. I never struggled with fertility, but my heart breaks for those that do. I’m so excited for you & your hubby! πŸ™‚

Congratulations Kate!!! What exciting news! I am a daily reader but first time commenter, haha. πŸ˜‰ Though I think you have a pretty extensive diaper bag list to check out, I’m gonna add one more… Perry Mackin. They are on Zulily from time to time and I decided to get one on a whim last year about this time when they did. I have loved it – more tote looking, less baby looking…LOTS of pockets. Has held up through my daily use. Just my two cents. πŸ™‚

You are getting a LOT of suggestions on diaper bags! haha What has kept me from purchasing has been the price tag. Wowza. I fell in love with one or two bags on Etsy (one by MarandaLee and another by BagEnvy), but I just can’t justify it at $100+. (That’s as much as the car-seat!). But, I am also cheap. Another option would be to find a nice big tote you love and then get a diaper bag organizer insert for under $10. My issue has been finding a bag that isn’t too girly for the hubs. I don’t want him to feel silly lugging it around from time to time. I finally settled on one that is just plain black. I might still register for the more expensive Etsy bag though…just in case. πŸ˜‰

That said, the bloat, oh girl, I feel you!!! At 9 or 10 weeks I wondered if I would have to move into maternity clothes already because I was so uncomfortable!! I managed to make it work by wearing dresses and using the bella band as long as possible, but I could not believe the bloating.

Ours looked like a little peanut. I go back next week – week 10 – so I’ll see if there any changes with growing baby! I guess I am really lucky because I didn’t really have any nausea at all! From week 4-8 I felt like I had a constant stomach ache which made me not want to eat even when I knew I should be. Crackers were also my saving grace! I had about a week where I stopped feeling pain and my appetite was coming back, but this past Monday it all kind of hit me again. Darn! I thought I was over the pain part for the first trimester. Oh well.. it will be well worth it! =]

There is a reason for everything . . . I knew there was a reason for checking your blog today. I’ve been using your hair tutorials for about 6 months now for cute updos (which I ALWAYS get compliments on), and I wanted one for tomorrow. I’ve been pretty bummed lately about how long it’s taking us to get pregnant again (first time around was 17 months – we just hit the year mark again), and I knew finding a new “do” and looking at your blog would make me happy. And then I see this pregnancy announcement post, which is awesome! However, I didn’t know until today that you struggled to get pregnant . . . I just reread some of your previous blogs and I felt like I was reading some of my own thoughts. Not to sound like a stalker, but I talk about how much I like your blog a lot! Now, finding out you’re a “soul sista” when it comes to the infertility stuff (which is pain I would not wish on anybody) makes me feel even more of a connection to you! Try sammoon.com for diaper bags. You can get a few different kinds for cheap! I also found some super cute ones at Burlington’s, I got one for my sis in law that is a fabulous brown zebra print πŸ™‚

LOVE my Kate Spade diaper bag. I don’t feel it screams “I’m a mom!” but it fits all the necessities without being too bulky. I also like that if I have to run out quickly I can just use it as my regular bag instead of switching out all the contents I need. Even a few minutes will seem like an hour when you’re trying to get all your errands ran before he or she wakes up from their nap! Congrats!

Even though I didn’t have the experience of pregnancy and childbirth we were able to be in the delivery room to see both our children come into the world. I can’t count the times that people have asked if my children are twins. My son is short for his age and my daughter is tall. I have to giggle to myself when people ask. What a blessing! Diaper bag… I absolutely love mine and it’s still be used to this day even though my girl is nearly 4 years old… I consider myself lucky since I know some would have several before they are happy with theirs. This is my one and only purchase. It is JJ Cole Mode (http://jjcolecollections.com/mode-tote-bag); looks like they have new color lines! Well, first of all congratulations!!! I talk as a very recent mum (my boy is 6 weeks old!): it’s going to change your life, but at the same time it’s soooo rewarding.

Concerning the diaper bag, I have some comment (by the way, I love that you start taking care of stuff in the early stages of pregnancy… I remember lots of people here in Spain telling me that you have to wait… “yeah, of course, when I have a huge belly I’ll be around shopping”)

So, the diaper bag. First we made a list to try not to buy all that baby stuff they sell you and that you would never use. Then it happened that we inherited a lot of things from family and friends (we love the “second life” that baby things get, and we clear their storage places at the same time), and that included a couple of diaper bags. None of them exactly what I would have chosen, but we decided to wait until the baby would be born to see our real needs when going out with him.

I find diaper bags normally too fluffy and they look just as what they are. Having in mind that I do not want to carry too many bags, I end up carrying my wallet, phone and personal items in the baby’s bag… so I loose the nicety of going out with a nice purse. Then, in these bags I find difficult to organize stuff (not too many pockets), and if you put your personal things inside, then you really need organization. I thought, maybe I should buy a new one, but I already had a very nice baby changing mat (a present from a friend), and all diaper bags have another, along with more complements… and I hate having too many things that I don’t need.

So I checked the bags I already had. And the best (I mean, THE BEST) diaper bag I could encounter is my American Tourister cabin bag, which I got from my husband years ago and that was my college bag. Summary: something I already had, that I liked, that would fit my clothes… and when we are done carrying a baby it will have another use (it’s original one!).

So get imaginative!

I highly recommend Petunia Pickle Bottom. I got the weekender bag because, when I was honest with myself, my daily purse was the size of a normal diaper bag. The downside is that it doesn’t really have a shoulder strap. Also look into Coach. They have some cute stuff. But really any oversized bag will do. Depending on your needs and which way you decide to go (breast feeding? pumping? formula?) you may need to make sure you have something waterproof! You’ll figure it out. πŸ™‚

As for baby bags – I vote for one that you can use as a purse too. Get an organizer insert like this one,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Women-Travel-Insert-Handbag-Organiser-Purse-Large-Liner-Organizer-Tidy-Bag-/161031645702?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&var=&hash=item257e3bea06

Plus a foldup changing pad/ wipe holder, And put in a bag like this
https://www.onekingslane.com/product/22684/1235424

Your spare outfit in case of a blowout should go in a heavy duty ziplock bag, so you can put the dirty clothes in it after you change the baby

Congratulations!!! My newest addition is already almost two months old, and I finally just decided on a diaper bag. I spent countless hours watching YouTube reviews and researching diaper bags. I have to say Timi and Leslie quickly became my favorite. They are giving away a bag right now too. Good luck finding a bag! I will pray for a healthy pregnancy resulting in a healthy little baby for you and your husband!

I struggled to find a cute diaper bag and my sister-in-law found an awesome one. I copied her. It’s by Lassig. Absolutely love it. Stylish and functional. πŸ™‚

Hi congrats on the baby. I feel like all the blogs I read are now pregnant/having a baby…and being nowhere remotely close to even wanting a child, I can’t help but feel like I’ll have to find other blogs to read. I understand that you’ll “try to keep writing about beauty tips”…but when every other post ends up being about baby-this and being-a-mom-that…I just get so frustrated and not interested!!! πŸ™

I really think that your rocket was great. Congrats on the baby announcement. I think my favorite is the tacos and babies one. You both look great and very happy. Thanks for sharing the pictures and congratulations.

There are definitely tons of diaper bags out there, but I disagree about price equaling quality. I got a $35 diaper bag from Target and it still looks brand new. And to put things in perspective, I have a 3 year old, 2 year-old, and a 6 month-old: that bag is STUFFED! I just couldn’t see dropping too much money on something you aren’t even using every day. And even then it just sits in your car or on a seat in a restaurant.

Wow I’ve been following your blog for about a year and just realized it’s grown by the thousands, geez girly!!! People love it as much as I do! I would die for a Petunia Pickle Bottom bag but spending $180 on a diaper bag just isn’t going to happen! So exciting that you are pregnant πŸ™‚ I am almost due! I just posted about some birth options if you’re interested at all πŸ™‚

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE (no seriously, love) my Tim and Leslie diaper bag. Totally doesn’t look like one but has all the functions of one. I’m a bit of a purse snob and it was the only one I wanted. πŸ™‚

Have you looked at thirty-one for a bag they have incredible patterns and you can put babies initials on it… very southern thing to do πŸ˜‰

year ago one of my tubes was blocked, and had insisted that IVF was the only option left for me. I was desperate and terrified due to my relatively advanced age (I was 38 year ago) and the 2 ovarian cysts that were giving me hell, that I would be childless. My husband and I decided we will keep on fighting as I have read many awful stories about the side effects, the low success rates and pain involved with the IVF procedure so we kept looking for a natural alternative. We almost gave up and then I found a testimony of how you help some to get pregnant and emailed you for guidance . You were so supportive and kind that I immediately ordered your spell and along with my husband who had poor sperm motility(an issue that your spell addressed as well). After two months of trying I got pregnant with my first baby boy. With one blocked tube and 2 ovarian cysts, I think this is nothing short of a miracle! Thank you for everything, viewer on this forum that want to know more about dr emua you can email him at dremuahelphome@outlook.com
