Death by Chocolate

next
Bathroom Organization (mine and what I wish it was)
I just sat at my computer for a good 3 minutes, staring at this photo thinking, “how does one explain the goodness that is this dessert?”
I guess I’ll just jump right into it.
I made this yesterday for a cookout we went to with some friends. I normally bring cookies to meals with a medium-large gathering, but I thought this would be a nice change and a perfect summer dessert. Not to mention I picked up some delicious strawberries at the store a few days ago, so I couldn’t help but add them into the dish.
After dinner, our friends scooped this dessert into their bowls, and began eating. One guy took the liberty of renaming this dish “Brownie Cream Strawberry Yum-Yum”. I liked it. It sort of rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it?
It’s incredibly simple but sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Plus, it looks really pretty.
All you need is chocolate cake, strawberries (or any fruit that goes well with chocolate), chocolate pudding, and whipped cream (or cool whip).
I baked a devils food cake in a 9×13 pan, whipped up from fresh whip cream from heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar, made a package of chocolate instant jello pudding, and sliced up my berries.
*you could even do a vanilla version of this with angel food cake, or yellow cake, and perhaps vanilla jello? The options are endless.

*cut or tear the cake into small pieces when cool
Then, randomly layer all the ingredients together in a large bowl, or trifle dish, and refrigerate until it’s time to serve! Serve by itself, or with a side of vanilla ice cream.

Enjoy!

This is the best dessert!! I have been making it for years. I usually use raspberries and put it in a trifle bowl. But I’m sure it’s amazing with strawberries too! The Kraft recipe can be found here: http://www.kraftrecipes.com/recipes/quick-chocolate-trifle-51724.aspx

Super yum! I made almost the exact dessert this weekend but put it in a trifle bowl with some mini chocolate chips sprinkled in too. Where did those bowls come from?

Try making it with a can of cherry pie filling. I make a Christmas trifle with all the same ingredients, except with cherry pie filling.
Yum!

Ah! This is AMAZING. I do this without the cream and pudding, so can’t wait to add to it!

this is one of my favorite desserts & one thing i like to do is put it in layers in a trifle bowl (i ordered mine from amazon) — you can mix the cake/pudding together, then a layer of whipped cream (or cool whip!), and then the berries & repeat! still super delicious & also super pretty!

Nothing better than fresh strawberries….here in the San Joaquin Valley of Central California, we buy strawberries from fruit stands located right in the fields. One good thing about living here is the abundance of fresh fruit and berries. This time of year we get peaches, nectarines, plums, oranges (the Cuties grow right in my backyard) strawberries, cherries, blueberries, corn….the list is endless!!

My mom made this all the time when we were younger, but to make it even yummier, you can drizzle a little Kahlua on the cake right after you pull it out of the oven and it’s still hot-then proceed with the rest of the recipe! So good!
