The Mini Part

next
An iPhone 5 Case Giveaway
I love this picture of Jessica Biel. Mostly I love her hair, but I also think it’s a beautiful photo of her.
If only I had about 5 more inches, less layering, and about 1/4 more hair thickness, I’d be able to dupcliate this look closer.
But, for now, I’ll adapt it to my current cut!
This tutorial will show you how to do a mini part, like in the photo below. Basically, you will only part the front of your hair, and the hair from the crown and back will not be parted.
But I’m going to style my hair like the top photo of Jessica.
Hope that makes sense.

Love this style. I have a question and I hope you dont think its retarded because I have no clue about hair products but is texturizing spray the same as dry shampoo? If not will it work for this style?

ditto. why use a dry shampoo instead of just applying hairspray?

Hey Kate! Do you have any experience using Aquage Sea Salt Texturizing Spray? Would it be a good substitute for the dry shampoo you use in the video? I have a bottle of the spray and really don’t know how to use it. Thanks for your help! 🙂

Hi Kate! I love all of your hair tutorials. I would love to see a straight hair tutorial. I have a similar haircut (with thinner hair) and would love to see your tricks for adding volume to straightened hair. The last time you did a tutorial on how to straighten hair your hair was much shorter so I can’t really relate to that one.

I found your tutoralis a couple of weeks ago and can’t stop watching them. I use to know how to do my hair, but had two wonderful girls. Thanks to you I am on my way back. I have been having trouble finding the Aquage uplifting foam. Also with two preteen girls I feel like I should not spend the extra money on my hair. Do you have any recommendations on “over the counter” hair products, just as another choice. I know you get what you pay for and is well worth the money. Thanks for all the great tutoralis.

My hair seems to be pretty immune to teasing. I have the KMS Hair Play. Would that help? Should I spray that before or after I tease? Should I use hairspray before I tease? I have only used a comb, but would a teasing brush work better? Help!! I want some big hair too!! 🙂

I use the Aquage uplifting foam and blow dry my hair upside down like you talk about doing. I have pretty long and fine hair. I can not for the life of me get my hair to tease like you do. I try and try with a comb and a teasing brush and it just won’t. How do you get the tease so high like you do? Please help! I want my hair to have volume like that.

Reply
Anonymous says · 11.06.12

The same goes for me! I can’t ever get my bump to look like yours does. I spend a lot more time on each section, and yet it falls over. My hair is very soft and sleek but even after putting product in it, the teasing does not hold

Thanks for all your tutorials…I’m a HUGE fan. I have a question for you: I have thick fine textured, curly hair. I often straighten it, but I find that it is too curly if I diffuse it to get the look you do, but if I straighten it it won’t take the curl back very well with a curling iron. If I simply blowdry it straight i have WAY too much volume. Any ideas for me?

Question: I don;t have a whole lot of time in the mornings to do my hair…it’s long and fine, so I wash/condition it, and then put it in a bun before I go to bed so I have nice loose curls (works best if I blowdry so that the heat closes the cuticle to form the curls overnight)…problem is volume…what would you recommend? A little texturizing spray and teasing that morning? Anything I should use the night before?? Thanks!!

When I tease my hair, it does not stay up like yours does. Do I need to put more Aquage Uplifting Foam in my hair for it to stand like that? My hair texture is similar to yours…a lot of fine hair. Kate, you’re so cool! I have really learned a lot from you! Would you do a straight tutorial now that your hair is longer?

Reply
melissadianeblog says · 11.06.12

So my problem is that blowdrying doesnt straighten my hair. (I have 2B hair) and so I have to go in and actually straighten the top, but my hair has this “issue” where once its even REMOTELY straightened…its straight. it WILL NOT curl. is there an easier way to do this? otherwise im blowdrying, straightening AND curling. yikes!

Tutorial for the curling please!! Also – I second the request for seeing your hair when it’s naturally dried (without the acquage). For some reason, I feel like that’ll help me know how similar/different my hair is from yours. You have such great volume and my hair is so flat. I don’t know if it’s a difference in hair and I’ll never have the cool hair like you do or if it’s a difference in the styling/cut. Thanks! Love the blog!

Once again another amazing hair tutorial. They’re all so inspiring! I could watch this all day. One question for you, when you apply aquage to your hair before you blow dry, do you brush your hair out first before you apply aquage? Or do you just apply to damp unbrushed hair? I’ve tried applying the aquage to my damp and unbrushed hair, then blow dried it upside down and it was a HOT MESS!

Wow, I just did this to my hair and I love it! I can still make it a little better because I am not the best at doing my hair. I have very very flat thin hair and my part is very prominent so I had to spray more hairspray to make it stay. I feel like this style makes me look like I have more hair; because it’s not flat all the way in the back where my part goes. I will definitely be trying more hair styles with this kind of part! Thank you!!!
