The Mini Part
An iPhone 5 Case Giveaway
I love this picture of Jessica Biel. Mostly I love her hair, but I also think it’s a beautiful photo of her.
If only I had about 5 more inches, less layering, and about 1/4 more hair thickness, I’d be able to dupcliate this look closer.
But, for now, I’ll adapt it to my current cut!
This tutorial will show you how to do a mini part, like in the photo below. Basically, you will only part the front of your hair, and the hair from the crown and back will not be parted.
But I’m going to style my hair like the top photo of Jessica.
Hope that makes sense.

This is beautiful. I love the mini part – I could do that on my length hair now too! Thank you! Great tutorial – keep them coming !! Xx
Love this tutorial. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Thank you!! Could you do one on the Half Curl, for the hair inept such as myself!
Love this style. I have a question and I hope you dont think its retarded because I have no clue about hair products but is texturizing spray the same as dry shampoo? If not will it work for this style?
ditto. why use a dry shampoo instead of just applying hairspray?
Hey Kate! Do you have any experience using Aquage Sea Salt Texturizing Spray? Would it be a good substitute for the dry shampoo you use in the video? I have a bottle of the spray and really don’t know how to use it. Thanks for your help! 🙂
Would LOVE to see a tutorial on that curl.. its something i’ve been wanting to do on my own hair but just am not ‘quite’ sure how… thank you!!!!
Love it! Thanks so much for sharing your talent with us….I would LOVE to see the half-curl tutorial if you get a chance!
Hi Kate! I love all of your hair tutorials. I would love to see a straight hair tutorial. I have a similar haircut (with thinner hair) and would love to see your tricks for adding volume to straightened hair. The last time you did a tutorial on how to straighten hair your hair was much shorter so I can’t really relate to that one.
Completely agree! I’d love to see some strait hair tutorials for longer hair.
Me too! I have long hair with not much volume.
I would love to see a tutorial for the half-curl also!
Wow I am amazed with how your hair teases. It doesn’t seem to matter what I do, my hair just won’t tease for anything.
Same with mine 🙁
I’d love a tutorial for the style too. Love you hair like this 🙂
Love it…but what is your eye color? I love that, too!
Thanks for the great tutorial! I was wondering what color lip color you’re wearing in the photos…it’s really pretty!
LOVE IT! SO easy to follow, too. I, too, would like a tutorial on the half-curl! Thanks.

Love all your great tutorials!
I found your tutoralis a couple of weeks ago and can’t stop watching them. I use to know how to do my hair, but had two wonderful girls. Thanks to you I am on my way back. I have been having trouble finding the Aquage uplifting foam. Also with two preteen girls I feel like I should not spend the extra money on my hair. Do you have any recommendations on “over the counter” hair products, just as another choice. I know you get what you pay for and is well worth the money. Thanks for all the great tutoralis.
I would love a tutorial 💜 and I love your hair!!! You are so sweet and you give great instructions. Thanks.
Your hair is so beautiful……I’m clueless when it comes to styling hair. My hair is so fine and does not hold styles well. Any tips???
My hair seems to be pretty immune to teasing. I have the KMS Hair Play. Would that help? Should I spray that before or after I tease? Should I use hairspray before I tease? I have only used a comb, but would a teasing brush work better? Help!! I want some big hair too!! 🙂
Pretty, pretty!!! Love this one, Kate! I love doing my hair with the half-part style, too. I’m also obsessed with dry shampoo! Have you tried the new Suave dry shampoo (comes in a gold bottle)? It’s only the second brand I’ve tried, but I really like it.
xoxo

I love the “I didn’t try to hard” look. Its amazing. I would love to see a tutorial. I think you’re hair looks amazing. Plus I am really loving that mini part. Super cute!
Thanks!
Loren
love the hairdo and love your make up as well – you look fresh and natural w/out any frumpiness! http://www.bessiaglobal.com
Great tutorial, Kate! I was wondering if you had some advice on how to do the hair style in the second photo. Thanks!!!
Love the mini part! Got to try it!
Love this style! Would love to see a tutorial on the half curl!
I love this look! Thanks for the tutorial.
Love this style! Would love to see a tutorial on the half curl!
You are gorgeous! I love that third picture of you 🙂 Thanks for the tutorial–I’ve been trying to achieve this look and now I think I’ll have a better idea of how to do it!
I’ve learned so much from you. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. I’d love to see a tutorial for the curling technique you used.
Love this style! I have gotten so many compliments on my hair since I found your blog and started using your tips and techniques. I tell everyone who asks how I did my hair to check out your page =) I would love to see a tutorial on the half curl.
Would love to see the 1/2 curl tutorial. Also, if your hair is thicker, is the additional teasing at the base necessary?
Love this look, would love to see a tutorial on how you curled your hair! 🙂
So pretty and Natural! I would love to see the tutorial on the curls, not good at anything without one of your youtube videos to show me what to do!
I have the same ‘teasing’ question that some of the others do! My hair does not tease like that – you only run that comb a couple of times – I have to comb about 8 times to even get my hair to tease – and then it just falls out with any ‘play’. Help!
Love your hair styled this way and would like to see the curl tutorial. I also would like to see a flat-ironed straight tutorial now that your hair is longer. Thanks!
Hi Kate,
Similar question to some other people, what kind of comb are you using? My comb does not do nearly as good of a job at teasing as yours!

Would love to see the tutorial on the curl.
I’d love the curling tutorial also! Another question for you…we seem to have similar hair texture and length. How would I describe the cut you have to my stylist to get something similar? Thanks, love your blog!
i would also like to know how to describe your cut to my hair stylist. i love your hair!
Love! Thank you! I would appreciate the tutorial for the half curl as well. Also, I have watched your tutorial for backcombing but it does not work for me. Could it be the type of comb? I have to put so much effort for very little results…:( Thanks again!
Curl tutorial. Please and thank you!! 😀
Super cute! You definitely inspire me to want to do my hair and try new things!
I use the Aquage uplifting foam and blow dry my hair upside down like you talk about doing. I have pretty long and fine hair. I can not for the life of me get my hair to tease like you do. I try and try with a comb and a teasing brush and it just won’t. How do you get the tease so high like you do? Please help! I want my hair to have volume like that.
The same goes for me! I can’t ever get my bump to look like yours does. I spend a lot more time on each section, and yet it falls over. My hair is very soft and sleek but even after putting product in it, the teasing does not hold
Thanks for all your tutorials…I’m a HUGE fan. I have a question for you: I have thick fine textured, curly hair. I often straighten it, but I find that it is too curly if I diffuse it to get the look you do, but if I straighten it it won’t take the curl back very well with a curling iron. If I simply blowdry it straight i have WAY too much volume. Any ideas for me?
Kate, what a great style! I have similar hair style and would like to try this, could you please uploade a tutorial for how to curl your hair to get this look? Also could you include in the tutorial what type of comb you use to tease your hair? I just found your blog and so appreciate all your tutorials, as I have the same cut you do and will be trying several of your styles. So nice of you to share!
Shelley
Do you have a picture of your current haircut? I looks great on you!
Love it!!
Question: I don;t have a whole lot of time in the mornings to do my hair…it’s long and fine, so I wash/condition it, and then put it in a bun before I go to bed so I have nice loose curls (works best if I blowdry so that the heat closes the cuticle to form the curls overnight)…problem is volume…what would you recommend? A little texturizing spray and teasing that morning? Anything I should use the night before?? Thanks!!
Hi Kate! I have been looking for the Kenra volume 25 spray, but there are no salons in my area that sell it. Do you have any recommendations for a hairspray that would be a good alternative?
Looks the same as all your other curled hair tutorials!! It has to be a lot straighter to look like Jessica!!
None of these tutorials are rocket science and you always look the same.
That does seem to be the point- that ANYONE can do them but I have to agree that this look is the same as many others 🙁
would love to see a tutorial for those curls!
I would like a tutorial for the lower curl. Also, I have a revlon curling iron and only about the first ring or so of my hair that goes on the barrel first gets curled, the rest does not. Does this mean my iron is not getting hot enough? I put it on the highest setting.
Hi there, I would like to see the half curl tutorial and what lip color are you wearing? Love it. Thank you.
i have a question about jessicad gair color in the 2nd pic. what volor would you say yhe tip part of her hair is? i would like to try this color for fall
I would love to see a hair tutorial for this one because the top is what I always have so much trouble curling so maybe this is the style for me as it looks like you didn’t do much with the top.
This looks great!!
This is a good every day style on you, Kate! Tutorial please!
I have super short hair right now but still love to look and read…..your hair looks great ! You show us many different styles and variations. I have to say this….why do people leave nasty comments ??? If you don’t agree, don’t follow or read the blog. Just had to say it! Love you
Kate 🙂
Would love a tutorial on how you curled it!
When I tease my hair, it does not stay up like yours does. Do I need to put more Aquage Uplifting Foam in my hair for it to stand like that? My hair texture is similar to yours…a lot of fine hair. I’m always afraid I will put too much product in. I’ve watched your tutorial on how to apply the foam, but I’m still doing it wrong!
Is anyone else not able to open video?
So pretty! I want my hair to look like this every day 🙂 and can I just say your tutorials have completely changed my hair! I feel like I have good hair days almost every day now, thank you,
I like it! Ill have to try. I am horrible about parting my hair differently.

Love this!! Thanks for the tip on using dry shampoo to break up curls, I have the problem of “curl clumping” a lot!!
Same. Thing. As. Always…
This is adorable! I was wondering if you could show us what your hair looks like straight! The curls are super cute, but my hair does not curl and I like the general style of your hair to show my stylist! Thanks so much.
HOW in the world does your hair tease so well? Like you barely do anything and it practically stands straight up? Not fair!
Can you give examples of who would look good with an A-line bob and other specific styles. I think it is SO CUTE on some girls but I never know if I could pull it off. What if you did a weekly thing where a reader sends in a pic and you give recommendations? Just an idea!!! 😉
Kate, you’re so cool! I have really learned a lot from you! Would you do a straight tutorial now that your hair is longer?
So my problem is that blowdrying doesnt straighten my hair. (I have 2B hair) and so I have to go in and actually straighten the top, but my hair has this “issue” where once its even REMOTELY straightened…its straight. it WILL NOT curl. is there an easier way to do this? otherwise im blowdrying, straightening AND curling. yikes!
i’d love a tutorial on the process of curling your hair for this style. your curls are so relaxed and easy going… great for low maintenance days.
This tutorial is very different from others. I moved my part today because of this and I like the look. You can do this on straight hair too.
Would love to see a tutorial!
How is Jessica’s hair styled in the second picture of her? I love the style and haven’t been able to figure out how to accomplish it.
Thanks for the great tutorial! Tried it today and I must say my hair is looking fabulous thanks to you! BTW, the dry shampoo trick was epic!
What kind of hair brush do you use? Thank you for all the support, I’m so great full.
Love the hair style. But my hair just won’t tease for anything. I try and try but not even a small bump, just a lot of messy hair 🙁
Miryam
This is my favorite yet! I typically do a mini-part, but wow, I cannot get my hair to tease as easily as yours does. I would love to wear my hair this way every day.
Would love to see a tutorial on how you did this curl!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s the perfect mix between a small curl, but not a wave. Love it!!!
Sometimes when I curly, it’s TOO much curl, so I’d love to try other ways to find that way balance!
Hi Kate, I have been really into your tutorial recently and have tried a couple of your hair style and they work quite nicely. I am wondering if you can do a hair tutorial on a loose low bun like this one wore by Olivia Palermo ^^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMSmj2KHTKw
How do celebs do it !? well I guess she is super stunning too. I love the way you have replicated the look. It really suits you.
I am holding a giveaway worth $50 over at my blog today
http://myfroley.blogspot.com
would love to see a tutorial for this style!
Tutorial for the curling please!! Also – I second the request for seeing your hair when it’s naturally dried (without the acquage). For some reason, I feel like that’ll help me know how similar/different my hair is from yours. You have such great volume and my hair is so flat. I don’t know if it’s a difference in hair and I’ll never have the cool hair like you do or if it’s a difference in the styling/cut. Thanks! Love the blog!
This is gorgeous!! (When I was watching the tutorial my two year little guy said “Her pretty”) Love your blog!! 🙂
Once again another amazing hair tutorial. They’re all so inspiring! I could watch this all day. One question for you, when you apply aquage to your hair before you blow dry, do you brush your hair out first before you apply aquage? Or do you just apply to damp unbrushed hair? I’ve tried applying the aquage to my damp and unbrushed hair, then blow dried it upside down and it was a HOT MESS!
When you go to the salon to get your hair CUT, what do you tell them you want? High layers? With a face frame or without?? I’m aiming for the style you have and usually tell my stylist I want high layers, but it never turns out like yours! HELP! 🙁
p.s. where do you get your Aquage Uplifting Foam?? THANKS!
When I tease my hair it falls flat on top of my head! Yours stays up right and sticks up in the air. May I ask what you have on your hair that makes it do that? I LOVE your hair! It looks so soft and delicate.
I love how you curled your hair! Could you please do a tutorial how to do it??
I have super thick hair and when I tease it it just falls flat soon after. I use hair spray but that does not seem to help. any tips would be great
Kate,
COuld you possibly do a tutorial of this? I never usually curl my hair, but i do want some curl in it for my engagement pictures this weekend. Any chance you could have a quick one up before too long?
Love all the videos! One burning question, what kind of comb do you use in all your videos?
Wow, I just did this to my hair and I love it! I can still make it a little better because I am not the best at doing my hair. I have very very flat thin hair and my part is very prominent so I had to spray more hairspray to make it stay. I feel like this style makes me look like I have more hair; because it’s not flat all the way in the back where my part goes. I will definitely be trying more hair styles with this kind of part! Thank you!!!
It’s the same with me, flat hair without volume, but I need a VERY big amount of hairspray on my hair too.
Dry Shampoo has got to be the best invention ever, saves me washing my hair every day which takes farrrr to long to dry and straighten!
