Holiday Hair: Waves with a Double Headband
a bow belt that isn’t overly girly.
If I had to choose a celebrity “hair idol”, I would choose Reese Witherspoon. If you scan through photos of here from current to years ago, she’s really never had a hair atrocity like most celebrities.
I think what’s appealing about her hair is that it’s pretty. It’s flattering, versatile (she can rock super short and very long), and it’t not over done.
I love her headband look here:
So this inspired my first Holiday Hair Tutorial for the season.
This hairstyle is just a mix up of basic techniques mixed with a little over the top volume (that can be adjusted based on your comfort level).
Instead of using one headband, I used two. If you want a similar finished look to my headband style, you can either use two skinny headbands as well, or purchase the “double” headband.

Another gorgeous look! I love this, and I love Reese!
Your hair looks better then hers~ Great job!
=)
Brooke
Perfect for a holiday party! Thanks for the tutorial!

I have been attempting to recreate this look for SO long! I love Reese’s hair and always take her pictures to my stylist, now I’m glad I can do this on my own at home! Thank you!
LOVE your lipstick here! What are you wearing?!

Love this look! How do you get the teasing to be so high? I have a rat tail comb that I use but I can never tease it enough. Am I using the wrong type of comb? Every time I tease it just falls back flat when I let it go. Have no idea what I am going wrong.
Hey Jessica! Have you ever tried using a pick to get volume? I’ve found that if you use a pick that you can get amazing volume! Maybe try that out? And hairspray before you comb it too. That helps for my hair, and I like BIG hair 🙂
Hope that helps!
Jessica, try Jackie’s tips for sure, but I’d actually argue that you can’t get long-lasting volume from a pick. Use a fine tooth comb with short strokes as you tease. I also have a teasing video on my hair page if you need it!
Thank you to you both! The rat tail comb I use is pretty fine so that is why I thought it was okay to use. Must be me and not the comb, haha! I will watch your teasing video again to see if I am doing something wrong. My stylist says I have very fine hair but a lot of it so maybe that is the problem. 🙂
You both look gorgeous!
This is a very simple yet beautiful style! I love it! 🙂 One tutorial that I would like to see is a style where you only pin back the bangs with a sort of poufy look. That is one style that I can rarely get right and would love some help on that!
Do you have any tips on how to modify this look for a short (just below chin length) bob? AND I have bangs but I think they are long enough to get into a headband. Thanks!
I wouldn’t change anything about it–use the same steps!
I always love her hair at any length.
This looks so pretty and easy too!
I’m a stay at home mom and I always just throw my hair up in a ponytail, but your blog and helpful tips have inspired me to get a little more creative with my hair. Thanks!!
This is a beautiful hairstyle! I will definitely have to try this one! 🙂
LOVEEE this look, kate!! i might even try this with my new short hair! AHH!
I love your tutorials! My hair is extremely thick and (thankfully) straight/wavy-ish. I’ve tried a couple of the tutes, but it is exhausting to curl my hair and try to get it to hold with bobby pins. I have however, practiced enough with my flat iron to get nice wavy curls for every day styling. So, thank you! 🙂
It looks so great on Reese, but a little bit funny on you because you teased your hair too much up there. No hard feelings, I just think it looks more natural on her.
Thanks for the tutorial!
Annie
I mention in the video that you can adjust the level of volume as you tease. . but in this case it’s better to overdo it slighly because the hair will settle and soften a bit after you finish the style.
Have you ever thought about breaking your base for color to blend your highlights?? 10 minutes with a 12AB/12AV would be really pretty on your roots.
eh, not really. I prefer the softness of grown out highlights to a solid line.
I think balayage would be pretty on your hair and an even softer grow out than foils.
Beautiful! And I would also love to know what lipstick you’re wearing. I’m wearing an orangey-red shirt today and don’t want a lipstick that is too orange. Yours looks perfect. Do share!
I love those thin metal headbands. What brand are they? or is there one that you suggest?
I love the hair! I’m always afraid of headbands, but I might be able to rock this one. Also, your skin is amazing. Have you ever thought of using bare escentuals? It is awesome!
This just might be the fix for my “second day straight” hair. I have long, naturally curly hair and only straighten once in a while. It takes soooooo long, and after one day, it looks…eh. Some teasing and a headband might be just the trick to get another day out of all of my hard work!! Thanks girl!
you are SOO gorgeous!! your makeup just perfectly accentuates your perfect features. keep doing what you’re doing!!
The video wont go past 22 seconds for me. Anyone else having problems watching?
I love your video! You put so much work into every one that you do! Would you mind telling us where you got your headbands? I keep looking for thinner headbands like yours but can’t find any that I love. Thank you so much 🙂
I believe I picked these up at Target!
Gorgeous, Kate! I actually like this look better on YOU than on Reese. And I am a huge fan of Reese’s hair, also! Have you ever considered breaking into show business as a hair stylist?? You could take Hollywood by storm, I’m sure!
I LOVE Reese Witherspoon and totally wish I had her hair! Thanks for showing me how to replicate this style! I am definitely going to practice this one over the weekend.
Great tutorial! I can’t wait to try it! Question..just wondering what face makeup you are currently using….its looks so flawless and even! I have fair skin like you and have such a hard time finding the right shade of foundation and powder….but yours looks perfect all the time! Would love to know what you are currently using along with the shades. Thanks so much for helping keep us beautiful!
love this look on you! and reese always looks amazing — as you do too! xo

The higher the hair, the closer to God!
I can’t wait to try this!
Just curious- did you do something to take away the mobile view on your blog? It’s so much harder for me to read now. 🙁
Love it!
Reese is my favorite! I love her hair too. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
Kate, I love it! Reese is such a hair-spiration for me. I loved when you were teasing your hair — it went to serious Dolly heights! Looks great. 🙂

I would love to know what brand of comb you use – I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Maybe it’s only available “to the trade”? I have been loving your blog and youtube channel! Thanks!
Hi Kate thanks for this tutorial. I just cut off 7 inches of my hair based on your beautiful hair and the great tutorials you put up! I going to try this one soon! Who knew shorter hair would be so easy to style! Thanks and please keep these holiday looks coming.
Could you please do a hair tutorial on how her hair is curled/styled in this pic? I noticed you did more a wave and while I like that too I’d really like to see how she curled her hair.
I love this look! I’ve looked all around for the headbands, notat target, walmart, sally’s, amazon, or a generic google search. My sister did own a set of these so I’m begging her to look through her stuff.. we’ll see 🙂 I would love to know how you organize your hair accessories and makeup.. Mine.. is.. Everywhere!!!! 🙂
Your tutorials actually make me believe I can create the looks! I love your site!!! 🙂
You look absolutely beautiful!
In Point Of Fact the discount rolex watches market for Fake Designer Handbags is really larger than the popular christmas gifts market for genuine branded bags. This is because the majority of cheap omega watches can simply not afford the mad costs at which genuine designer louis vuitton outlet online
are accessible at. A genuine Louis vuitton bag can cost you up to $800. Yet if you search the hermes birkin kelly handbags inventory of knock off handbags you will have the capacity to get one for less than $100. Now why would you like to cost $700 extra on obtaining a chanel bag online that you can take for much lesser?
Can’t wait to try this!
I have really thick hair and can never recreate the styles but I did go out and cut my hair short like hers so hopfully I will have more success. fingers crossed….
Can you do this look with straight hair.. I have extremely long and thick hair.. curles don’t hold because my hair is heavy..
Hi, where did you get the headband you are wearing in this post? I have been looking all over for one just like it. Thank you!!!
