High Five for Friday
A bit on blogging
Well, it’s friday again. And I’m linking up with my sister Lauren From My Grey Desk! You should link up too if you do a High Five for Friday post!
1. Had dinner with a friend last night at Panera. We talked for 2 1/2 hours, and then continued in the parking lot. I love that. Oh and we laughed so much our cheeks hurt.
2. Made great progress with my blog redesign. You’ll see some changes here soon! It will be easier to navigate and find information.
3. Guest-Posted on I {Heart} Nap Time’s blog! Check it out here.
4. Planning a sister photo shoot this evening with Jacques, the wireless shutter release. Should be interesting. I’m sure there will be tons of laughter. Hopefully not as much wind as last time.
5. Moving! Justin and I are moving, locally, to another town home closer to his job! It’s beautiful and clean and the walls aren’t beige. And the kitchen is HUGE. Not really, but it is pretty big. But anything is bigger than my corner kitchen now. And I’ll have a HUGE laundry room. Not really, but I’ll actually be able to stand in it. And the master bathroom is HUGE. Not really, but it’s going to be a much, much prettier background for my hair tutorials.
I’m really excited about moving. It’s an upgrade for sure.
My sister is also moving! Have I told you she lives in my neighborhood? Just down the street. ::cue the “awwwww”::
She’s moving into a beautiful apartment about 2 minutes from Justin and my new place. I’m so glad we are able to still live close to each other. She’s pretty cool.
This week I’ve also decided to include my LOW five for friday.
1. cleaning.my.house. I am not excited about this. Somehow I have acquired so much crap over the years we have lived here. And although I did my closet makeover and I’m thrilled I’m not moving an extra 7 bags of clothes, there is still a lot of stuff.
2. Figuring out what to donate vs. sell, and what to keep. Justin and I haven’t really bought major furniture together yet. We had everything we needed before we were married since we both lived on our own, seperately. My parents gave us their old pine furniture for our bedroom since they were redecorating, and after a few coats of paint, it looked brand new. And I love it. And we’re grateful it was free.
So it has come time that we buy another couch, since our current couches are huge and won’t fit in the new living room.
3. packing.
4. packing.
5. moving day.

You and your sister are both super cute! You look so much alike ๐ I always enjoy moving… not so much the packing, but definitely the unpacking and rearranging… and at least for a little while you get to be super organized! Might just have to link up & do this post for myself sometime!

Hey Kate!
I feel your pain..I’m moving this weekend, and me being a HUGE procrastinator..I’m starting..yes STARTING to pack today. I despise moving..way too much work, and something always gets broken or damaged in the process.
The best part about moving, is being able to get rid of stuff. So I’ve developed a new philosophy: the more you get rid of equals less to move equals an excuse to buy more stuff after you move. Hello shopping! : D
Yea for moving! You’re so lucky! Packing is a chore, but I love that when I move, I get rid of soo much stuff that I wasn’t using. When you’re packing you HAVE to look at everything you have, & it’s almost EASY to get rid of stuff because you don’t want to have to pack it up & bring it to the (shiny &) new place. One of my favorite things about moving.
I love your blog and I love the fact that you look so stylish and pretty and do it modestly. I moved last weekend and I had to do it without my husband because he is traveling because of his job. And to top it off I had to do it with my 2 little boys (ages 2 and 4) under my heels. My parents were a huge help, but I am still unpacking. Good luck!!!
I did not realize that Lauren was your sister!! I LOVE her blog and always link up to high five for friday. Can’t believe I didn’t realize that you were sisters! you both are SO cute!! (And i am not a fan of cleaning my house either!)
So funny. Yep, she’s my sis!
I’ve had trouble posting my comment, so sorry if it posts multiple times! We call your #1 a Panerathon. A friend and I once sat for EIGHT hours catching up and eating/drinking coffee allll day long. There was drama that needed to be addressed in our lives at the times and we were pre-babies, so we had all day to waste. It was glorious! Every girl needs to Panerathon every now and again ; ) Your new place sounds SO amazing! Can’t wait to see how you put it all together!
I love that! Panerathon. Totally.
I love my 2 sisters and wish we lived closer….spending the day together tomorrow at least ! Good luck with packing ๐ Detest that job but purging is good for the soul, just keep telling yourself that…..
Call me strange, but I actually LOVE packing up and moving/unpacking. It’s a great time to start fresh and find a new home for every little thing. Must be the organizer nerd in me. ๐ Oh…and my sisters and I would be more than happy to take those 7 bags of clothes off your hands…LOL!
Ugh, isn’t packing THE WORST? I can’t stand it! I just finished unpacking after moving for like the fifth time in three years and I never ever want to move ever again.
But enjoy the new house! Haha. ๐
My husband and I just bought a house and are moving in the next 3 weeks… I feel your packing pain!!
Thats so exciting you are moving! Packing is no fun, but decorating and organizing always it! ๐
Oh man, we are in the midst of getting our house ready to put on the market. I never realized how much CRAP we accumulated through 5 years! So, totally feel your pain. I just plopped on the couch for a little break… just have to throw myself into it or it will never get done! Good luck and have fun! Make a game out of it!
Congratulations on the move! I can’t wait to hear about it.

Happy for your move! Those things are a big deal to me. Excited to see the new background for your hair tutorials…ha ha! Love your “style” of writing…makes you “real” – someone we can identify with! (And that you say ‘crap’. Again…real!) ๐
Best part of your HFFF…your sister living two minutes away!!! <3

This is too funny because when I was thinking of my high five for Friday ideas this morning, I was wishing I could also do a “low five” list because some crazy stuff has happened this week to me! This is one of the great things about being involved with a blogging community of friends, you realize you are not alone! Thank you! ๐

I want to make a suggestion since you said you are looking for a couch! My husband and I just bought a sectional couch from the LoveSac store. It’s actually called a sactional at their store, because of the store name. The couch is really comfortable and it’s all modular. So right now we have a couch + chaise, and if we have company it only takes 5 minutes to make it into a queen sized bed. Not one of those lumpy pull out couch kind of beds, but a really comfortable bed for company. One weekend we were wiped out from work, so we made it into a movie lounger and snuggled and watched movies. The furniture has covers for each piece and they are WASHABLE!!!
Even if you don’t feel like this is up your alley, check out the website, it really is cool furniture.
The website is, of course, http://www.sactional.com. Happy moving!!!
My husband and I are going to be moving in May. I’m already dreading your low five and trying to do as much now in prep work to make it easier when the time comes. Any tips or ideas you have would and choose to share would be greatly appreciated. Best wishes!
I’ve been reading your column for 8 months or so and I so want to get my hair cut but I’m afraid that I won’t keep it up. My hair is long now and I usually just pull it back into a pony tail and curl it on rare ocasions. How can I convince myself that I can do it. I know I need a new look. I’m 52 but don’t want to look 52. I enjoy wearing make up so that’s not a problem. I’m just worried that I’ll get it cut and then they’ll be days I won’t have time or the patience to curl it. What should I do?
your #1 is the bomb.
Kate, I love your blog!!!
And I feel your pain.
My husband and I are in moving at the end of April.
I’m excited to be moving into a bigger house…with a yard…and a garage…be still my heart.
Right now we live in a bout 950 square feet (condo)…so the 1600 sq ft will feel HUGE to us, too ๐
However…I have lived in this tiny place for 18 years. Shared it with my husband for the last 8…it’s bittersweet. But, I am REALLY not enjoying all this packing and stuff. It’s quite overwhelming.
Anyway — hope you’ll keep us posted on how things go as you make your move ๐ Congratulations!
Brooke~
Kate,
I just started reading your blog a week or so ago. I actually found you on Pinterest and it was the best thing! I never could really get into reading blogs because many of them do not have a general direction or good organization. But, yours however is AWESOME! : ) Your posts are organized, timely, and very inspirational. You have really motivated me in many ways. I enjoy taking the time (even if it means getting up early for work : ) to have my hair and make up look right and that gives me a lot of needed confidence! I am most importantly inspired by your love for God and I really believe this is a wonderful way for you to minister to the world in such a unique path. You are blessed with the gifts of love, inspiration and connection. I look forward to all of your upcoming posts and you’ve hooked me as a FAN for life! God bless!

Hello! Congrats on the new place! We just put our house on the market. May I ask how long it took you to sell yours? I’m nervous, but hope with summer coming we don’t have to wait too long. Also, I am growing out a very short pixie cut… any suggestions while I’m in the year-long in between phase? Thanks! ๐
Good luck with moving, Kate! My husband and I just moved across the country (TX to VA) last week! Driving! With our cat, who was none too happy. I hope it all goes well for you and can’t wait to see this new pretty background for all of your hair tutorials! ๐
I agree, packing is blah! However, I do love organizing, donating and de-cluttering and I have found it makes packing a little more enjoyable ๐
ps. the windy photo shoot was cute! Hopefully you have better weather this time ๐
High Five for Friday joy))Your windy photo shoot have benn hotty cute!
