Knotty or Nice
High Five for Friday!
The lovely women behind Latest-Hairstyles.com came up with a great theme for my December post– “Knotty or Nice”. It’s perfect for the holidays and to give you ideas for some new hairstyles! One style is very pretty and simple, and the other is more trendy and formal.
I hope these give you some inspiration!

KATE! I spent like an hour last night watching hair tutorials and reading blog posts. Your blog sucks me in more than Pinterest!
Thanks for all the work you do to make them. This one is another great one!!
Have a great day 🙂
I am in love with your hair! It is totally my dream hair… if only I had the guts to cut mine! I was wondering, I have dark brown hair, but I love the highlights and variation with blonde color that you have. I would like to get highlights in my hair to get some sort of variation, but I want it to look natural and not obvious that I got highlights. Do you have any suggestions?
lurve the necklace with the turtleneck!
Oh, both of these versions are so pretty! Loving the knotted look. 🙂
I love both too, you are gorgeous lady. The tutorial is great! I wear buns all the time since I’m always working out and definitely will keep this tutorial in mind. Thank you for posting it! Love from angela – uniqueofsheffield.co.uk/ | Hairdressers Sheffield
Haha super cool idea to do ‘knotty or nice’, and I love both these hairstyles! Thanks for your inspiration!
Love your blog, your specific instructions, close up pics … from a girl whose never understood hair but is alwasys told I have great hair. 🙂
Beautiful!
You are beautiful both inside and out…
You keep coming up with newer and funner (word?) styles!
Must try… too straight today.
Wow, I will definitely be doing these on Christmas day! Thank you!
Kate…You have inspired me to try different hairstyles…I always had a problem trying to fix my hair different ways..but your tutorials are soooo simple…thanks..
The updo is beautiful
Love both ‘dos! Oh and I saw that either Grits or Gravy wanted in on the tutorial. 😉
I love your hairstyles! I tried the knot half up today and I love it! It was my first time so hopefully I get better at it but its great for a casual sunday baking cookies!
Been surfing around looking for good, easy, quick hair tutorials to look different (as my work request so) and found yours. It’s being really helpful for the moment! Thanks for the good tutorials 🙂
Greeting from Barcelona, Spain 🙂

What color/brand lipstick are you wearing in the top picture?

Just wanted to say thanks for the tutorials. I used one today and had so many compliments on my hair. So Thanks!
You are such a doll! I’m so happy I found your blog, I’ve already done 2 of your hairstyles and always got lots of compliments. So thanks!! Can’t wait to see what you come up with next, I’m definitely trying the knotty up do.
I can’t wait to try this for christmas. My go to hairstyle is just a little messy bun, but his is so much more classy!
Hey Kate! I have super long hair and I have been thinking about getting it cut. I love the length and style of your hair. It just seems so versatile. What would I say to my hairdresser to have it cut like yours?
Thank you so much! Love your blog!! Have a very Merry Christmas!!

Very nice! You have lovely hair!
Can I just say, you have great bangs! Seriously.
I just found your blog & I haven’t been able to get away from screen since. I feel a bit stalkerish! I can’t waite to try some of the styles you’ve posted.
P.S. goint to pick up some Aquage lifting foam tomorrow!!!
I loved the “Nice” hairstyle! I’ve done that hairstyle today, and I first tried it on Friday evening. I love your other hairstyles too! Thanks for sharing 🙂
I am leaving the coffee shop right now (where I am watching this) and going home to do this to my hair immediately!!! It’s soooo cute! Thanks for the tutorial. Awesome.
How do you do this so the bobby pins don’t fall out? I tried it and about an hour later it was drooping.
Love the knotty style!!! I will have to try it tomorrow!
I’m not sure if I’ve ever commented before, but I just love your blog and your great tutorials!
Although I love the “knotty” post, me being a home decor expert shopper(wink wink)I like the wall hanging and snowman a lot!
I’m thinking Pier One? 🙂
Hello
I love reading your tutorials about doing hair but is it possible to do a few more that work without bangs or mention when they would work without bangs
thank you and happy holidays
Kate,
Thank you so much for all of the work you do to help women around the country have beautiful hair! I’ve got thick, curly hair, that is not always the easiest to style (or most fashionable). Thanks for showing me ways to fix my hair and still make it look pretty, and tamed! Much love and appreciation! Wishing you, your family, and friends all the best this holiday season! (I will be spending the holidays with my family sporting the “nice” hairstyle!)

I’m wondering if I could try the updo with just curling my hair with a curling iron first instead of using hot rollers? Thinking of giving it a go tomorrow. 🙂
Hi Kate, I just want to say I love your blog! I’ve tried to do the knotty style twice now, and it looks good, but I can always see my bobby pins. Any advice?
Thanks for posting this! Tried the “Knotty” updo last night and got compliments all evening. 🙂
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your blog. I have been so bored with my hair and now I am excited to do it and try out these adorable hairstyles! Thank you!
I just found your blog this morning when I was on Pinterest. I have by hair up in the knotty style(sort of:) right now. I love the tutorials. My hair is about the length of yours and I think I can do most of the styles you model. I haven’t worn my hair this long in years and these are great options. My hair is very thick, coarse, wavy and has a lot of body. Most of the styles and tutorials I see are for much longer hair. I’ve finally found hair I can identify with! Your styles are so versatile and forgiving because they don’t have to be perfect. THANK YOU! I will definitely be visiting your site often and recommending it.
THANK YOU for posting this! I discovered your blog through pinterest…and I’m so very glad I did. Your tutorials are incredible. I am the most uncoordinated person out there, but after watching your incredibly simple tutorials, I felt empowered to try your “nice” (vs Knotty) style this morning. I have longer hair, so I did two of the knots…and I can’t even tell you how many compliments I have received today. THANK YOU KATE! I have recommended your site to everyone that compliments my hair! LOVE IT! (your site and my hair!)
Your video tutorials are easy to follow,
Super cute!
I love your hairstyle! I had to seriously convince my sister (professional hairstylist) to cut my hair like yours. To my delight she watched your video from pinterest (guilty of repinning). And she went to your blog and found the details of the cut. I have never received so many compliments! I love the versatility of the style. I am not one to have the same look everyday. My new hair and my 100lb weight loss equals……a beautiful new me! Thank you so much for sharing your tutatorials!
what do you do with the knots if your hair is longer? great blog!
Kate, what brand of bobby pins do you use & where do you get them?
Karri
Kate,
You have inspired so many girls out there to try neat hairstyles. Thanks to you, my 12 yr. old girl is giving her natural light blonde hair to Locks of Love, donating 12″! She’s getting it cut like yours, and I’m going to try your color instead of my usual highlights on dishwater blonde hair. Wish us luck! We look forward to more awesome tutorials to inspire us. Thank you again!

Kate,
I’ve been using my daughter’s nap times to practice new styles on my hair using your videos. Thank you so much! Last night was the opening of my husbands show and I wanted to look nice for him, so I tried the knotty bun. I got so many compliments! I love your tutorials, they have really helped me feel like I CAN do versatile hairstyles!
I have always wore my hair short. Your blog has inspired me to let my hair grow and try all the cute styles you have on your blog. I know it will take awhile for it to grow long enough, but I am going to try to talk my little grandaughter into holding still long enough so I can practice on her. She has very long, beautiful hair.
I will recommend this blog to others. Thank you.
Last weekend my husband and I went on a trip to Florida for his job. We had a casual dinner and a formal/cocktail dinner. I used your tutorials for my hair ideas. For the casual, I did the messy ponytail bun. And for the formal, I did the “nice” knot (above). I received lots of compliments on both. I just love all your hair ideas, thank you!
Thanks for the info…I’ve been trying to decide how to wear my hair to an upcoming Ball; now i have sooo many ideas!
Shoulder length hair seems to work great for your selected hair styles. I love what you have done but I have mid back length hair and can’t seem to pull off any of the up-do’s. Any suggestions…especially all the bun techniques.
Above I said mid back, it’s actually past my bra strap.
HI KATE!! I am LOVING all of your hairstyles and they look like something I can actually do myself. The one thing I am wondering is if you have any tips for people (like me) whose hair just doesn’t ever seem to want to tease. I’ve had numerous people try to no avail. Is there any special product u recommend as a hair stylist? I’m trying to get some ideas for my wedding for myself and my girls with ALL different hairstyles and lengths! Your blog is helping tremendously!
Thanks Again!
I love your demos. I can actually do my own hair for some of these styles! My hair just doesn’t want to curl. Any ideas? Curling and hot rollers hold for literally seconds or maybe a couple minutes and then it just falls straight.
Thanks, Tracee
I tried this on my three day old hair and it came out great!!! My hair is naturally wavy so all I do to get that beach wave is sleep with my hair wet and I’m able to use all of your updos. They literally only take me two minutes in the morning and I’m off to work. I’ve been getting so many compliments lately on my hair that I wanted to thank you for your great blog, and easy to follow tutorials. =)
Eeek! Tough to do on my medium-thick hair that’s past my shoulders. Sad face 🙁
You are so classy! I love your updo videos:) I just became a licensed hairdresser recently and I work in boca grande Florida. We do A LOT of destination weddings. Your videos make it simple for a rookie to do a beautiful updo. Thank you so much for sharing.
Kate…I love your hair tutorials! I am a high school teacher and in charge of the winter formal every year. Last weekend I dressed up and went to style my hair like I do every day for work…then thought I would give your “Knotty” style a shot…it worked first try!!! I loved it and you make it so simple to understand and do by myself! Thank you for sharing your tips and so many cute styles :). I’m addicted to your blog and especially the hair tutorials. I get so tired of fixing my hair exactly the same every day…
I love all of your tutorials, I find myself watching way too much youtube trying to learn them all. Thanks for taking the time to post them!

I love your blog! You have the best hair & hair styling ideas. I wish I could emulate your styles!!! But the best part ~ I’m so glad to hear you are a Christian & that is the most important thing in your life. God bless ya sister!
Super cute hairstyles. I’d like to try THE NICE HALF UP, but I can’t find the instructions.
