Homemade Buttercream Frosting
Stealthy

Is there anything better than a homemade cupcake? And when I say homemade, I’m talking Funfetti box mix. That is the real stuff right there.
But the frosting you see pictured above? Well that is actually homemade. And it couldn’t be easier.
Homemade Buttercream Frosting
1/2 C butter, softened
1/4 C crisco
1/8 t. salt
2 C powdered sugar (keep it out, you’ll need more)
1 t. vanilla
approx. 2 tbsp milk
1. Cream butter and crisco until well blended.
2. Add salt, mix well.
3. Gradually add powdered sugar. Add milk to thin out/fluff up the frosting. Begin with 1 tbsp. . .add more if necessary. Add extra powdered sugar (approx. 6 tbsp) if you like it sweeter.
4. Add vanilla and beat until light, smooth and creamy.
Enjoy on a cupcake, or simply:your finger.

I made a big old batch of this last Friday! It really helps to have a stand mixer.
Mmm! The other day I made pumpkin muffins and choco cupcakes. Had to make some choco icing myself. this receipe is good to keep in mind since it would go well with diff flavors!

What’s the occasion for such cute cupcakes?
If you add a tablespoon of egg white powder(meringue powder from the baking section of michaels) it will give the finished product a “crust” once it dries. Helpful for figure piping and so on.
YUMMMMMMMM.
Thanks for posting this today! I needed a butter cream icing recipe, and was going to have to google one. I wonder if adding cocoa would be good for a chocolate cake….
I love making my own frosting (and eating half of if!)…makes cupcakes taste even better!
I am SO HAPPY to find out I’m not the only one who LOVES Funfetti! That has been my favorite for… forever I think… That icing does look good too!
You are totally making me crave cupcakes now, thanks! I’m only a girl with a love for all things baked, mmmmm!
We really don’t need all this extra temptation now!!!
I just started following you on pintErest because I love your hair tutorials. And now I love your blog too!! I’m on an iPad and having my troubles typing here. LOL

Hi Kate, thanks for your hair tutorials and delicious recept!
Waynette – don’t add cocoa! It will be bitter.
I added about an 1/8 cup and it turned out great! I needed the base frosting to be a light brown. I would imagine it could turn bitter fast though.
Just tried this icing tonight and I absolutely love it. this is the first icing recipe that i will be adding to my homemade cakes! Thanks for posting
