Pinks and Nudes

The other day I was working on something with my friend and she said, “go grab a nude lipstick from your stash. . .”

I went scrounging around thinking that surely I owned at least one nude lipstick, but in fact I do not. All my “nude” lipsticks are actually pinks.

So, I’m determined to find a wearable nude for the fall. Now, there is definitely still going to be pink involved in the shade because I’m simply too pale to really pull off a true nude, soย the nude police can just write me up for misconduct or whatever they see fit.

There’s a sentence you won’t ever come across again.

Here is some other brand new information: Fall is coming! I know, did you know? Have you heard? No one has been talking about it so I figured everyone was over it.

Ahem, yes, I too am excitedly anticipating fall just like the rest of the country (or is it only us in the South who are sick of the heat?), and I’m mostly excited for rich neutrals to make a comeback in my eye makeup life. I’ve been keeping it pretty light, but I’m on the hunt for some pretty, deep browns and shimmery champagnes.

It doesn’t take long for me to find something I’d like to try in the beauty realm, so above are a few of the products that I’d like to give a test drive to. That Stila palette up there? It looks like the possibilities are endless!

The Charolotte Tilbury lipstick pictured is called “nude kate”. I think it’s meant to be.

The last foundation I tried was Flawless Finish by Laura Mercier, but I’ve always wanted to try Nars Sheer Glow. I’ve heard beauty Vloggers rave about it, so it’s next on my list. The “glow” aspect of it should be perfect as fall/winter come in and zap all the life right out of my face!

Is there anything you are itching to try in the beauty realm? Let me know below! I’m sure I’ll add it to my list!

Some people get off on being trolls. Sad, yet true.

Reply
Jess says · 09.19.14

Stating an opinion is not being a troll. If you cannot handle the opinions of others–the internet is not the place for you, Kate included. She is in the public eye of sorts and running a public blog will subject you to all opinions–positive and negative. You are just as judgmental by claiming that someone is not a nice person because they left a negative opinion.

Why do I have to go away because you do not agree with what I am saying? No thanks. I’ll continue to state my opinion as I see fit. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Dawn says · 09.19.14

Jennifer it might be a good idea to look Kate’s entire post. If you had you’d have found out the links are numbered to correspond to the pictures at the top. You just made yourself appear extremely ignorant…and not mention rude. It’s sad to see unhappy people take it out on others. Hope you get this worked out. Good luck!

Reply
Jennifer says · 09.19.14

I do realize this; however, why can’t she make these links more straight-forward. It is a sneaky way for her to earn money off of affiliate links. That’s all this blog has become–affiliate links, sponsored posts, and boring posts about her son. What happened to the makeup tutorials? I do not want to see stock photos of the makeup–I want to see what it looks like on! What happened to the outfit posts? Now it’s just stock photos and storyboards. It’s quite disappointing. I used to be an avid reader, but no longer. Based on recent comments, I’m not the only loyal reader who has felt like this.

Reply
Dawn says · 09.19.14

I’m assuming you have a job (my apologies for assuming if you don’t) and you expect to get paid for your work. Kate is no different. This is how she makes her living and helps to support her family. If you are not happy with the blog content then you should probably just seek your desired info elsewhere. There are MANY beauty blogs out there. I for one thoroughly enjoy Kate’s posts as I am working mother who loves the beauty advise she offers up and I also very much enjoy reading about her son and her experiences as a new mom. I keep coming back because I can relate to her and I just plain enjoy it. If your needs are different, then find something better that suits you, but let’s just all be kind to one another…

Reply
J says · 09.19.14

Amen, Dawn! If you don’t like what you’re reading, or what this blog is, go find another! Instead of assuming that Kate is trying to be sneaky, Jennifer, perhaps suggesting that she make the links more noticeable would me a more polite way of voicing an opinion.

Ashley says · 09.21.14

I do agree with Jennifer. Kate, I appreciate your post but it would nice if you would more clearly state what the products are so that I might be able to google them in my own. I don’t necessarily feel comfortable with the fact you earn a commission for my clicking on a link…even if I don’t purchase the product at that time.

Reply
Nicole says · 09.24.15

Why does that bother you? This IS Kate’s job. Reading a blog is a form of entertainment – why should you be entertained for free? Do you go to the movie’s for free? Nope. You’re not even paying anything out of pocket. It’s not sneaky – it’s very obvious that they’re affiliate links.
Kate is not making you outright buy anything, but she has every right to set her links up the way she does. You are not even being forced to click the links. If people aren’t happy with her blog, they should know there is nothing stopping them from creating their own.
I support you, Kate ๐Ÿ™‚

Kellie says · 09.19.14

The products are all named though. You can see the brands on all the products in the photo except for 2 of them and those 2 she mentions by name in the post.

Reply
Amelia says · 09.19.14

So Jess
I was kind of with you in the whole stating an opinion thing. Although I didn’t agree with your opinion, I was on board. Then you made this comment. Here’s the thing, who cares. Sometimes she may get paid. Sometimes she may not. Go ahead and be angry about it. However, you do start to veer in to troll territory when your comments are so catty. There are ways of stating your opinion without projecting your negativity. There is also always the option of not visiting her blog.

Reply
Jess says · 09.19.14

I have no problem with her getting paid. I do, however, have a negative opinion towards bloggers, like Kate that are are “sneaky” with the affiliate links. I’m not the first person who has mentioned this. FYI..

Reply
Amanda says · 09.19.14

Jess, it seems like you are really unhappy with Kate and her blog. I’m sorry you feel that way, but it really makes YOU look like a jerk when you keep posting snotty comments. If I had such a major problem with a blog, I would simply stop looking at it. However, when you continue to come back every day just to see what kind of snide remark you can make- that does indeed make you a troll. And if you think that Kate is going to change the way she makes her living just to please you, I’m afraid you are sorely mistaken. She has over 80,000 followers on Facebook alone. Your opinion, I’m sorry to say, does not matter that much to her or anyone else for that matter.

Elizabeth says · 09.19.14

If you have such an issue with this blog why continue wasting your time visiting a blog and commenting? Don’t you have anything better to do? Seems like a pretty simple concept.. Don’t like it, don’t read it. Don’t like the affiliate links, don’t click on them.

Kate says · 09.19.14

Hmm sorry about that Emily! I will try to fix it ASAP!

I have been meaning to try Nars sheer glow as well. I always thought it would be light coverage with a name like sheer but learned it is actually medium to full coverage.

Reply
Heather says · 09.19.14

LOL, I thought the NARS foundation was yellow nail polish at first…which could be fallish I suppose!

Reply
Katie says · 09.20.14

I purchased the NARS Sheer Glow a month or two ago because my skin started getting weirdly dry (which I suppose happens when you grow up and hormones change). I had some difficulty finding the right color but I love it and haven’t reached for another foundation since! It’s good for normal to dry skin I think, and it does leave a beautiful glow to the skin. I agree that it’s a solid medium coverage but it sheers out when mixed with a moisturizer or primer.
I would love to get my hands on any and all of the Charlotte Tilbury line. For lips I’m excited about her Lip Cheat lip liner in Pillowtalk!

My favorite nude lipstick is an old philosophy one that has, of course, been discontinued. I hoard it. Well, I hoard two tubes.

I am stuck in an eye shadow rut these days. Age 43 means less shimmer but when I wear matte, it feels flat and muddy. I have searched YouTube for “hooded lid” tutorials but they are all glammed up. What the heck does a “middle aged” girl do with eye shadow for daily wear? Not too orange. Not too muddy. What is just right?

I hate when the discontinue the good stuff! Look for “the makeup chair” on youtube–she’s got great, normal tutorials!

About the nude lipsticks I bought this week two popular nudes from Mac “velvet Teddy” and “viva glam ii “. I have medium skin and the colors are the most beautiful rosy nude ever but they will look irresistible on a fair skin like yours. Hope that helps!

I have Buxom True Nude Lip Foundation in Buff and I love it. I usually use a pinkier lipstick and then put a layer of the Buxom on top (I realize this sounds odd considering the Buxom lip stuff is called ‘foundation’, but I like the way the other one feels directly on my lip :)) and it turns into pretty much the perfect pinky nude. I love it. I also really love Burt’s Bees new line of lip crayons. They feel fabulous on.

The great thing about free will is that if you have a problem with “affiliate links” you don’t have to click on them. See… no longer your problem! Awesome how that works out, right?

It’s no secret that this is her career and livelihood, so I don’t think she’s at all being “sneaky” by posting links however she sees fit.

Back to beauty talk… Kate, I love nudes, but I’m fair skinned and freckled so I have a hard time with them too. I have just learned to embrace that my “nude” is more of a “nude-ish” with heavy mauve tones.

I am super pale but we oddly have the same lip color and so far my favorite”nude” color I found from Kim Kardashian of all people. It is a gloss but it is just too lovely to not share. The L’Oreal Extraordinaire by Colour Richeยฎ in Nude Ballet is the bomb! I would suggest every color but for the sake of nude colors this is the best glossy version.

I would love to see more reviews on products that don’t break the bank. I mean $42 for a small bottle of foundation is not reasonable for everyone this day in age. I have to agree with Jess on this, and my intent is to be rude or snarky. The frustration that I feel is that there are often these “sets” of makeup/products that Kate hasn’t used and therefore can’t give a recommendation for, however, putting them on the blog acts as an endorsement of the products. To some, myself included, constantly featuring products on the blog that you haven’t tried and can’t solidly back up and recommend feels disingenuous, especially when you are making money off of the sales. I can find products myself, but the reason I come here is because I’ve appreciated and trusted Kate’s recommendations I the past. I would rather read Kate’s review of one product rather than see a spread of 10 unused.
