My ideal relaxing escape

next
The Twisted “Phonytail”

I’ve never been the kind of gal that enjoys a bath at the end of the day.
My mom, however, takes one almost every night.
I think it’s a combination of the stillness mixed with the unending “to do” list that distracts me while I stew in the hot water.
So I gave up on baths. In fact, as my husband and I were house hunting over the summer, we strongly considered removing the bathtub from our master bathroom and making our shower massively huge.
It sounded like a dream come true.
I make taking a shower a priority. I notice a significant difference in how I feel on a day when I shower versus a day I may skip one. It both wakes me up and refreshes me.
The only thing better than the shower itself is the lovely aroma of a new body wash. I don’t wear perfume often, so I bank on my body wash being the “scent” that lingers on me all day.
Recently I was able to try out these new products from Sonia Kashuk. And oh my goodness they smell incredible. The new Bath & Body collection includes 24 different products which come in wonderful scents including Pink Innocencia, Purple Seductia, Yellow Alluriana and Red Promisia. Here are my thoughts on the new collection:

My favorite scent of the ones I tried is Pink Innocencia. It’s light and girly with the most lovely subtle scent. If I wasn’t already married, this would be a scent I would choose to wear on my wedding day. I love the idea of starting over with a new “signature” scent on your wedding day because years later whenever you smell it you’ll be brought right back to that day.
I have yet to use the Yellow Alluriana body polish because I’m saving that for my “saturday scrub” (that’s the day where I exfoliate everything). The aroma is fresh and a little citrus-y, without being too strong.
There are quite a few products and scents to choose from, and the line offers a complete range of bath and body products with textures, fragrances and looks that make you feel pampered. If you prefer a stronger and more glamorous aroma (versus the light and fresh ones) this line has that too.
I’ve been a fan of Sonia Kashuk products for a long time. I have a handful of her makeup brushes, and have loved a few of her lipsticks as well. I love her price point and the fact that you can scoop up her products at Target.
Needless to say, these body washes and creams are going on my “To Buy for Christmas Gifts” list. And I may add myself to the bottom of that list as well when I’m choosing products for my mom and sister.

I usually pamper myself by doing a deep conditioner and using a brown sugar lip exfoliator–Saturday is my day to exfoliate/moisturize too!

Glad to know it’s not just me! As far as pampering, I really love to have my hair done or really taking the time to do my own hair and make up nicely (yes very much a luxury with 2 young children and a husband) Your blog has helped me do this! Thank you so much!

I pamper myself a few ways. I take showers most of the time but I do like baths, but I have to have a book to read or a word search to do other wise I don’t relax, lol! My favorite body wash scent to use is Be Enchanted from Bath&Body Works. It smells so good! I also love to grab coffee and have chats with friends. I pamper myself by taking the longest hottest shower that I can. While doing so, I use a sugar scrub, that I make, on my feet, elbows, and hands. Then, I use a mix of nutmeg and buttermilk on my face (you should definitely try it. It makes my face glow and super soft) then when I get out of tge shower I moisturize with a rich moisturizer. Usually after that I will paint my nails. I feel like a new person after all that and it never fails to make me feel better whether I’m sick or having a rough day!

I like to get a pedicure, or get my nails done, but I don’t do it enough. Day to day, I have found running helps me feel good. I stay fit, and feel good about my accomplishment. While it doesn’t seem as nice as a luxurious bubble bath, or girly products for the shower, I find when I skip a run, I am grumpy and annoyed.

My husband and I have this routine where Monday’s are his “gym night” where he can just get away, unwind and work out and Thursday nights are my nights. I usually use these nights to craft, cook, or maybe go browse a couple of stores, but that is my time to myself and I can rest assured knowing that our daughter is being properly taken care of and that my house will hopefully not catch on fire! It’s the simple things in life…

How funny! Just yesterday I watched the episode of Friends where Monica urges Chandler to take a bath. Even though he thinks he’s not a bath person, he falls in love with it!

I just moved in September and my new bathroom has a separate tub and shower stall. But I still haven’t used the bathtub.

I think my favorite simple way of pampering myself is actually putting some candles on, laying in my bed, and watching Friends — I don’t often get to lounge around and relax, so this little thing feels luxurious!

I like to pamper myself by getting a professional blowout or mani/pedi. Yes, I can do those things myself but let’s be honest: I’m no pro! It always comes out so much better and lasts so much longer when a professional does it for me. I can’t afford to do it often, but when I do, I feel pampered & luxurious.

I am with you, Kate, I want to trade in our garden tub for a HUGE shower! We are strongly considering it but do hesitate because a lot of folks on House Hunters (and shows of the like) always seem to want a garden tub in the master suite. I know one day we will sell this house and feel like I may do our re-sale value a disservice by taking out the tub. We shall see!

I pamper myself with getting a pedicure which happens a couple times a year!

Then I continue my skincare routine in bed while watching a movie or funny show. I use two skin creams. I even exfoliate my lips! Then I pull my Mom in for the action and this is when we put on a movie to watch together while I do both of our nails and we chat and finish up ready for bed by lotioning up and apricot oil on the fingers. I love when we do this. I make sure I do it really slowly and try not to hurry through things.

I used to love a long bath… but now the time needed and cleaning before and after, seem to defeat the purpose (maybe a housekeeper is the real luxury!!!!). I think taking time to exfoliate and lotion (everything inch) seems like such a splurge of time these days. I’m sure once the “mommy days” are over, a bath will return to the list of relaxing things.

My husband and I love giving each other pedicures at night after our son goes to bed. We use products by Lush that are in their men’s collection…very peppermint-ey smelling 🙂 We soak our feet in a little tub with bath crystals. Then we layer on a foot mask and scrub that off with an exfoliating product. Then cut and trim nails and layer on the lotion…yum! Think we might do that tonight!

I pamper myself with an scrub day also! As a busy mom and full time Marketing Director, I don’t get to enjoy baths or showers the way I used to, (i.e. staying in for hours.) But once a week I make the shower extra long, and do a full exfoliation. It makes a difference!

I love a bath, but I haven’t been making it a priority with two little kids around. A face mask on the weekend is pretty good, though. I’m a new reader–I was so happy to find your blog! I’d been looking for help updating my makeup routine, but most of the people making makeup videos showed looks that were too flashy or complicated for me. So, thanks, I appreciate what you’re doing. 🙂

Taking a longer than normal shower-deep conditioning my hair, exfoliating everything & letting the water run almost cold. Making sure I put on makeup when we’re going somewhere nice is my other “luxury” with 2 kids under 4. 🙂

I am like your mom… a good hot bath (with a book and a glass of wine) is my favorite way to unwind. When I start to get short with out toddler, my husband is always quick to swoop in and take over childcare duty so I can have a soak in the tub. Mama is much happier after.

This sound really lame, but I take an extra shower at night. In the morning I’m so rushed to get my son and get the day started, but at night I can take my time shaving my legs and washing my hair. Nothing feels better than crawling into bed after you are all clean and smelling good. It’s a quick way to pamper myself at the end of the day.

Due to my size, I am unable to take a hot, soothing, bath like I used to enjoy (working on fixing that BTW…65lbs down and 195lbs to go!). SO…I will stand under the shower as hot as I can stand it until I feel like a limp noodle. It may not seem like a pamper, but I am a HUGE environmentalist and water conservator, so just standing there letting the water run when it doesn’t need to be running is big to me. LOL
