Grateful

{via pinterest}

This blog has been an unexpected project that has really turned into something I love. I’ve been blogging for roughly a year. It looks like I started in June as per my archives, but I was using a different host for the first 6 months. The blog really blew up in August thanks to my hair tutorials. It seems people kind of like those. ;)

Because of the rapid growth, the opportunities that the Lord has allowed me, and the huge part that you play in spreading the word about my blog, I was able to turn this into a little business. My mind is full of ideas for this next year, and I hope you stick with me on this journey!

Thank you. So much. For your encouraging emails, comments, tweets, Facebook posts, etc. Each and every comment means so much to me.

I have been running ads on my blog for the past few months, and that has been a great way to help fund the time and materials (read: hair products, tools, camera, etc.) to make this blog what it is! And also provide me with a little extra.

I’m taking some of that extra and sponsoring a child through Compassion International. She’s 4 years old. Lives in the Philippines. She loves playing with dolls and singing.

So why am I telling you this? I’m definitely not trying to guilt you into doing anything with Compassion. But simply, to thank you. And to show you that your support has allowed me to do this! And to thank the Lord. Who very clearly provided an opportunity to use this blog for something greater.

I’m so grateful that it has become what it has, and I am truly so humbled to be able to continue on this journey!

That is awesome news about your little Compassion girl. My husband and I have been Compassion sponsors since we were 18 (we sponsored our first child during our college years together). We LOVE Compassion and support everything we can with them. We currently have 4 little girls through Compassion and my nine year old is a Compassion correspondent. I am SO excited to see you take this step! Also – so excited to tell you that today I used some of your hairstyling tips and I am having an awesome hair day! Thank you for all your tutorials!

I love that you’re sponsoring a child through Compassion! My parents actually started sponsoring a little girl named Alana in South America (maybe Brazil??) around age 6. She’s 12 or 13 now! She sends them letters to update them on how she’s doing. They also send her Christmas and Birthday gifts (well they give an extra donation and a gift is purchased for her). They’ve been thinking about going down to visit and meet her! In short, I think what’s you’re doing in absolutely awesome! Love the blog! Keep up the great work!

That’s so great! I think it’s wonderful for you to share your love for the Lord. I think many shy away or omit that info in order not to scare away any followers. We also sponsor a little girl in Haiti via Compassion International- it is truly a blessing! Congrats, Kate!

  24. says

Yay! I love Compassion, and also sponsor a child through their program. What a neat way to use the funds God has blessed you with!

Thank you so much for your time, and your hair tutorials…even though i have much longer hair than you demonstrate with, your ideas help to inspire me.

Dear Kate! I am so glad this blog becomes much more, that you have opportunity to share your knowledge, style and spirit with other people! I also enjoy knowing that my learning how to style my hair helps you to help little girl. We also as a family sponsor kids in Africa.
I really hope I will read your blog for a long time!
You know, I have what they call good, great hair, but not until I found your blog I knew what to do with it! It only looked good when I went to hair stylist. No one before you made it easy for me! I enjoy my iron, my hair, my looks, I can not tell you how much! It is so easy now, and I just hardly wait to see my reflection in some mirror around the town, and to wash my hair and style it! And it used to be such a nightmare for me, it’s funny, but it was!
You are so special, thank you, and go on!

Awesome! I’m sure God will use you to lead others towards giving, whether it be Compassion or in some other way. I love your blog because it’s just so fun but it ultimately gives God the glory in all things…for our hair, clothes, home furnishings, etc… Everything is a gift!

Hi, Kate! I found your blog yesterday through Pinterest. Since I tend to be a little handicapped in the hair department, I’m super excited about this find! Love the opportunities God has given you and yay for Compassion! It’s a great organization! :)

  32. says

Great post! I love your blog (came here via a pinterest hair tutorial and subscribed immediately!) and I LOVE Compassion. We’ve been sponsoring 2 boys for a few years now, and it is such a blessing to our family. When I started my etsy shop last year, I decided immediately to donate 15% of all sales to Compassion’s Child Survival Program, something else that I am just passionate about. It’s awesome to see people use something successful like a blog to help others! Way to go :)

I have been following your blog since September…apparently right after it “blew up”. :) And yes, I fell in love with the hair tutorials…my sister got married on 11-11-11 and I needed a cute updo. {Style of choice was the messy bun…only not too messy, more curls.}. I will forever be grateful to you for your tip of the TWO polybands, how to trim your own bangs, and Kenra hairspray, oh, and my Hot Tools curling iron…thanks for teaching me how to curl my hair!! You really were a life, er, hairsaver. Praying you will have continued success. Bless you for thinking of others by way of sponsoring a child. What a blessing! Keep the great posts coming!

How sweet – making extra money and sponsoring a child! You brought tears to my eyes! I sponsor through Remember Nhu, an organization that builds children’s homes around the world to prevent them from being sold into the sex trade. I know the founders personally, and it’s such a blessing to be involved in that way!

I want to thank you SO VERY MUCH for your hair tutorials! I’ve actually done something with my hair other than blow dry it for the first time in years (okay, other than a few times curling it…). I have enough hair for three people, and it’s so hard to do anything with that I don’t even bother most of the time.

Since I found your blog, I have purchased large hair clips, bobby pins and hair spray, and they WORK — hallelujah! =D Thanks so much!

You are a VERY special lady (and sister in Christ)! Thanks!

Thank you for sharing, Kate! I did, in fact, find you through your pinned hair tutorials on Pinterest, but I’m excited to continue reading what may in the future!

  40. says

Thanks Kate, for your encouraging words! I began reading you through Pinterest and cutting my hair in a similar style (I’m not stalking!) because I burnt my long hair with a hot iron. Since then I’ve tried different methods on me and my daughter. Thank you for your inspiration! You have also inspired me to blog. I have been blogging for a little over a week as an accountability tool to keep me reading my bible and de-cluttering! I hope you have a beautiful year and your sponsored child blesses you the way you have blessed others!

I am also sponsoring a Compassion child and found one that has my Grandmother’s same name, who is no longer here with us, so I am able to honor her as well. I recently got a part-time job and have wanted to sponsor a child for awhile now; I am very grateful for the opportunity I have been given as well!

Kate, I have thought of myself as hair challenged all my life. I have never been the type to get complemented on my hair for the way I style it (unless I have just left the salon). I found your blog a few weeks ago. I got a complement at the mall yesterday (I was wearing the messy bun (aka explosion) which I love-its probably my favorite) and I had a lady come up to me to say how pretty my hair was and to ask me what products I use in my hair. I have NEVER in my 26 years have had that happen to me. I believe it is all due to you. You have given me confidence in myself and my hair abilities-I just needed to be shown step by step. Thank you for this-you have really changed my life and given me more confidence.

That is wonderful! Happy to be here! Next year when you come back to Utah, you should host a lunch of some sort because I think you will be AMAZED at how many Utah readers you have, because we are the queens of blogging. No seriously, I bet if blogger/wordpress/etc. looked at the state with the most accounts, Utah would probably win, per capita. Enjoy the mountains!

AND, since I found you (at about 3 AM one morning while I was nursing my newborn) I haven’t had a bad hair day! That’s saying a lot, since I have horrible hair and 3 kids to contend with while I try to fix it. Anyway, thank YOU, Dear! :)

i know that running a popular blog is more work than most people realize, so i just wanted to say that i really appreciate it. we have similar hair in color and texture (though mine is longer) and your tutorials have finally helped me understand how to work with it to get it to look how i want. i was completely clueless before. my husband thanks you, too, because he is really impressed with the new hairstyles i’ve been trying, and he loves that i’m putting a bunch of effort into my hair now. i’m putting that effort in because now it seems fun, thanks to your blog! before, it always seemed disappointing because i had no idea what i was doing. so thank you again!
