I thought about calling this a Pumpkin Spice Makeup Tutorial just because everything Pumpkin Spice is a big deal right now and since I was channeling my inner Autumn spirit I thought it was apropos.

But then I remembered that I don’t like Pumpkin Spice anything so. . . it didn’t make sense. I feel like I need to be in a support group named “Those Who Do Not Love Pumpkin Spice Anything” so I don’t feel so alone in the world. Maybe I’ll get that started. Let me know if you need an invite. We’ll focus on Chocolate everything instead.

Anyway, I created a simple bronze-y fall look for you to try as we approach this upcoming season of dreamy weather and crispy fall leaves. I wanted a lot of warmth in both the shadow and the face! And my lips were a plum shade that I reserve for the cooler months!

What I used:pondssep_thesmallthingsblog-1-4

Naked 2 Palette(tease), Tarte Exposed blush, Mac Lipstick in Syrup, Hourglass Arch brow pencil in Platinum Blonde, POND’S Dry Skin Cream, Maskcara IIID foundation, Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow in No Pressure, Urban Decay Secret Service, Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen

I began with the POND’S Dry Skin Cream. This is super hydrating, making it very effective as dryer air moves in to the south. I’m so happy to be getting away from humidity, but the dryness around my nose is obnoxious in the wintertime! A creative way to use the POND’S Dry Skin Cream is to only put in in places that you need extra hydration. If you have an oily t-zone but dryness in other areas, use the POND’S Dry Skin Cream in the areas you need it, and a lighter moisturizer on the oily areas! Don’t be afraid to tailor your products to certain areas of your face based on need!

pondssep_thesmallthingsblog-1

Next I applied Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow in No Pressure all over the lid.

pondssep_thesmallthingsblog-2

I added Secret Service, from Urban Decay, to the crease.

pondssep_thesmallthingsblog-3

I didn’t want too much liner since the shadow was darker than usual, so the Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen was perfect for a bronze definition along my upper lash line.

pondssep_thesmallthingsblog-4

I added a few swipes of mascara on top, and held off on the bottom lashes for the time being.

pondssep_thesmallthingsblog-5

I used the contour shade from Maskcara’s IIID foundation palette around the outer part of my face, and used the lighter shade for the center. I have a tutorial for how I use this foundation coming VERY soon!!

pondssep_thesmallthingsblog-6

pondssep_thesmallthingsblog-7

Because my under eye circles are so dark, I need to top off the foundation with a touch of concealer.

pondssep_thesmallthingsblog-8

A strong brow was another part of this look, and I used the perfect shade of Platinum Blonde by Hourglass.

pondssep_thesmallthingsblog-9

To add a touch of depth on my lower lashline, I piked up Tease from the Naked 2 Palette with a pointed brush and swept back and forth.

pondssep_thesmallthingsblog-10

pondssep_thesmallthingsblog-11

pondssep_thesmallthingsblog-12

And here is the final look! Warm, glowy, and perfect for 60 degrees and sunny!

pondssep_thesmallthingsblog-14

Do you warm up your makeup a bit for the fall? And do you change your moisturizer as well? I always have needed something a little heavier on certain areas, and POND’S Dry Skin Cream is perfect for that!

this post was created as a part of my ambassador program with POND’S, a brand I’ve loved and used for years!Β

Do you think you can use maskara foundation if you are extremely oily? I tried a different cream contour by Laura mercier and it was so greasy on me.

Reply
Alyssa says · 09.23.15

I’m one of those people that’s dry in the morning and gets oily throughout the day. I’ve actually found that having some extra moisture helps it go on better, and I use a BB or CC cream before I put it on. I haven’t had any issues with it sliding off, though I do know she recommends a primer for oily skin.

Regardless, I’m LOVING the IIID foundation.

I would love to join your non-loving pumpkin spice support group! I love the warming spices this kind of year, but the pumpkin just isn’t for me.

I’m looking for a new moisturizer. I was thinking about the fresh lotus one but do you think it’s heavy enough for the harsher winter months ahead or should I try something like the ponds? My skin is on the more dry/sensitive side and rough Ohio winters definitely do a number on it.

I did your survey a couple of days ago and didn’t have any requests at the time, but after thinking on it a bit more I was wondering if you’ve ever done a post on home remedies for skin/hair. I’ve read so much about coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, etc and I was just wondering your take on it. Have you ever tried anything like that and if so, what was your experience?

I’m sorry to jump in here so much, but I just bought the IIID foundation last week after dancing around the idea for months and I’m so glad I finally did. It’s so easy to do (even though it’s intimidating when you first put that contour on) and I seriously feel like I’m walking around in amazing lighting all day.

Lovely look. I do need something a tad more covering on my face, however. Also, I was surprised to see no eyelid primer? I thought you used UD. I am pretty sure you are the one that got me using that πŸ˜‰ And boy does it work well…from 5am, through 8 hours of work, and then several hours of sitting at tennis, or softball, or football, or….well, you get my drift!! What about a face primer? I use Smashbox. Do you find your makeup stays on just as well without it?

Reply
auntsarie says · 09.23.15

If you use a cream shadow, it acts like a primer. πŸ™‚

I do. I use Benefit Creaseless. However it doesn’t stay all day unless I use my UD primer.

I just knew the other day when you mentioned something about a new foundation that it was going to be this one. It looks absolutely amazing on you. I have been wanting to try it but was going to wait until my birthday in November to order. My skin is fair like yours so this just makes me want it even more. Can’t wait for the tutorial and see what colors you have in your mascara palette.

I love it! Probably because those are the colors I wear year-round. I love that coppery bronzey liner and must hop over to Target to check it out.

Thanks for the reminder about my love of Urban Decay cream shadows. I need to go pull those out.

I am in roars laughing because I do not enjoy the pumpkin craze! I actually love when the pumpkin baked goods fill the shelves because I am not tempted. Brownies. Cookies. Bagels. They are my weakness.

Love the makeup look. Could you please share the concealer you used? I struggle with finding a fair toned creamy concealer that does not cause my eye makeup to smudge.

Have a great day!

Pumpkin Spice makeup, HA! But seriously, today is all fall fall fall and my pinterest is all pumpkin pumpkin pumpkin! Great tips on warming up your look for the fall. I can already see my summer glow fading (is that possible when it’s still 97 degrees in Dallas?) and this is a fantastic way to keep that glow through the cooler months (if it ever gets cool here. I’m starting to doubt it.)

Love this fall look! I have a random question on mascara. Every time shortly after I have applied mascara and have curled my lashes, they would go back to being straight like I have not curled them at all. Do you know what I should do with this issue? Should I use a lighter-weight mascara (if it exists)?
Thank you!!
M.

Reply
leticia justus says · 09.23.15

I would suggest curling your lashes first and then applying mascara. If your lashes are still giving you trouble heat your lash curler with a short blast of heat from your hair dyer. test the heat on your wrist first (it gets hot fast) then put it up to your face and curl your lashes with a warm curler then apply mascara to seal the curl in .

Reply
Joy says · 09.23.15

Search YouTube for “curl eyelashes with a hair dryer”! After trying it twice, I threw my eyelash curler in the trash & will never go back!

Reply
Deanna says · 09.25.15

I have this problem as well & it drives me CRAZY. I give them extra help by tilting the curler up. Then, ideally, I wait 10 minutes & curl them again….then put on Buxom Lash Mascara. It’s the most lightweight one I’ve ever tried & seems to hold the volume & curl the best. Everything else feels heavy & weighs them down.

Reply
Erin says · 09.25.15

I actually had someone at Sephora change my makeup life! She told me to apply eye makeup FIRST! I was like, really, no way! BUT I won’t ever go back. I always have eye shadow fall onto my face and it’s hard to clean up. But if you apply it first, you can use makeup remover without taking any of your foundation or anything else on your face. Someone also told me to apply concealer last, yes AFTER foundation. That way it doesn’t come off when you blend in your foundation etc. Good luck!

I made a quick run to Target the other day and saw pumpkin spice coffee, bagels, English muffins, air freshener, cereal, lip balm, and coffee creamer!

Looks so gorgeous on you! I purchased the IIID foundation and it just doesn’t work for me and I am trying to figure out why! Her makeovers are always exceptional! It’s pretty dry and cakey on me and the color just seems so off I feel like I am trying to wear those little packs of Halloween makeup that come out this time of year. I am hoping I am just doing it wrong or maybe I picked the wrong colors ( followed her guide online)? I was so disappointed the two times I tried it that I put it away and have been too nervous to research and try again because I kind of just want to blame it on me not knowing and not on the product, because she is just so awesome, love her.

I get major dry skin on and around my nose (all over really, but those are the worst places) and they have a thick moisturizer that I use everyday called Ultra Repair Cream and an even thicker one that I use on my nose area called Ultra Repair Concentrate that works wonders. You can use both of them anywhere on your body, but also safe for the face. I especially like to use on my feet (different jar for my face of course!)

You’ve officially lost all credibility with me. Can’t believe you’re against the pumpkin. Is it because it’s orange? I know how you feel about bright colors…

I kid.

Just give me the next two and a half months to indulge in all that is pumpkin, and I won’t want to see it again for a year.

That’s the beauty of pumpkin season. All of us maniacs burn out on it relatively quickly.

I love the Studs from Saressa Designs. Rachel is brilliant! and am a recent user of Ponds. I should have started using it sooner!

Please tell us which polish you’re wearing here! You’ve mentioned so many great purple polishes lately but I can’t tell which one this is & this one is gorgeous!

I love your soft waves and I just watched the tutorial to create that look. My question is: do you use the same technique now that your hair is longer or is there a different technique for longer hair?

Not a pumpkin spice girl either. From the comments it looks like there’s a contingency of us. ?

Wow! I love your look. Have you ever tried fake lashes?

Very pretty, but your makeup looks always looks exactly the same with MAYBE a slight variation in colors. Nothing looks different!

Love this. You look so pretty! And, I am SO excited to hear that you’ll be doing a post about Mascara’s IIID foundation. So looking forward to that!

I recently came upon an app called thinkdirty. It gives you a rating according to carcinogenicity/toxicity/immunotoxicities/allergens, etc. Ive been trying to find some good moisutrizing cream (my face is dry because we live in the desert!) and havent been able to. Also, one that doesnt have questionable ingredients. Ponds rates high on this app for toxicity, allergens and everything else that isnt great for skin. Just wanted to let you know!

The only item you didn’t list was what concealer you used! Recommendation please

Love this look – and the IIUD foundation looks amazing on you! Now I want to try it, but I’m wondering how that would work with my 10 month old. Then I remembered you have TWO babies now – I don’t know how you do it!!

PS I like pumpkin spice, so I guess I’m not in the club. Boo.

I am new your blog but am loving the looks and tips from you and all your followers. I was also wondering about the color of the Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen – I am guessing it was the bronze beam, but wasn’t sure because the cooper one seems similar. Thanks for your posts!

How do I join this anti-pumpkin spice group?! Seriously was feeling like the only one who isn’t into that. Glad to know there are more of us haha! XO
