A Few Favorite Hair Tools + Products

links + small things

It’s been a while since I’ve rounded up a handful of my current favorite hair tools and products! I’m always testing and trying new things, but these are a few long time loves along with some new discoveries that I’ve really enjoyed! I share a lot of quick product reviews on Instagram Stories, so be sure to follow along over there to stay in the know about what I’m loving and recommending.

Tools.

No 01. Featherweight Compact Folding Hair Dryer: You’ll be impressed with how strong the airflow is from this compact dryer!

No 02. Cura Professional Digital Ionic Hair Dryer: Such an efficient dryer that leaves me with smooth, soft hair.

No 03. GHD Classic 1″ Styler: I’ve had a GHD flat iron since I worked behind the chair and it still works perfectly. It doesn’t have a temperature dial, which isn’t ideal, but it smooths through the hair so quickly and easily.

No 04. Twirl Trio Interchangeable Clip Curling Iron Set: If you enjoy curling your hair, you’ll love the versatility from this set. I use the 1.25 inch the most, but all the iron sizes are nice for different curl shapes.

No 05. Waffle Luxe Hair Turban: One of my favorite ways to soak up extra water from my hair before a blow-dry. I love that it has a button and loop to stay securely on your head.

Scrunchies + Elastics.

No 06. Large Slipsilk Scrunchies: I sleep with one of these in my hair every single night. It’s smooth, doesn’t cause any creases or frizz, and doesn’t pull on my hair either!

No 07. Small Slipsilk Scrunchies: I like using these for pulling my hair up in a ponytail or a messy bun. Just like the large ones, they don’t snag my hair at all!

No 08. Sephora Hair Snag Free Hair Elastics: These have been my go-to for a while. They are great for simple ponytails, half-up styles, or anytime you need to use a clear elastic.

Products.

No 09. Amika Fluxus Touchable Hair Spray: If you like a flexible, soft, forgiving hair spray, this is the one you need!

No 10. Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-Powder Post Workout Dry Shampoo Mist: I love how fresh and revived this makes my hair, especially after sweat!

No 11. Kerastase Genesis Strengthening Blow Dry Primer: The Kerastase primers are some of the best I’ve used. They add strength and softness to the hair without waxiness or weight.

No 12. CAVIAR Anti-Aging Multiplying Volume Styling Mist: This is a must-have if you want airy, fullness to your hair! Spray it on mid-shaft to ends for volume!

No 13. CAVIAR Anti-Aging Restructuring 3-in-1 Sealing Serum: I love this for dry, damaged ends. I really only apply it to the bottom 3-4 inches of my hair, but it does a great job of smoothing through the very dry parts.

No 14. CAVIAR Anti-Aging Restructuring Bond Repair Leave-In Overnight Serum: I use this almost nightly. It makes a big difference in how moisturized and soft my hair is in the morning!

No 15. Bumble and Bumble Glow Blow Dry Accelerator: This is the lightest spray that takes noticeable time off my blow dry!

No 16. Resistance Shampoo & Conditioner For Damaged Hair: If you are looking to increase the health of your hair, this is a great set to start with.

No 17. Virtue Full Discovery Set: I love the Full shampoo for volume! If you have fine or thin hair, try this set!

No 18. Amika Got Grit Dry Texture Paste: This is ideal for building texture and grit into the hair for volume mid-shaft to ends, or as a foundation to a half-up or full-up style!

No 19. Summer Blonde Essentials Hydrate and Tone Set: I love these little drops for adding to whatever shampoo and conditioner I’m using at the moment. They help tone my blonde to a cooler shade!

No 20. CAVIAR Anti-Aging Replenishing Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner: I love so many products from this line and this shampoo and conditioner set is great for dry hair!

No 21. Virtue Restorative Treatment Mask: If you have damaged hair that needs life, strength, structure, and hydration, you’ll love this mask!

P.S. Did you catch my latest hair tutorial on how to revive and refresh day 3 hair!?

I kind of think Olaplex is overhyped….. Go with Caviar!

What would you recommend as good everyday shampoo and conditioner? I have been alternating between LivingProof Perfect Hair Day and CHI Luxury Black Seed Oil . I would like product to give volume to my hair too.

Any recommendations for curling wands? I have NO luck with irons because that clamp just gets me messed up and confused every time.

Hi Kate,
For some reason whenever I click the link for Sophora it never directs me to your linked product, have you any idea why?

I watched your review of the Dyson Air Wrap shortly after you purchased it. Your reviews are always spot on and much appreciated, and I realize that the review occurred when the product was new. I already own the T3 travel dryer, Cura dryer, GHD classic straightener, and T3 interchangeable curling iron, but am always interested in hair styling efficiency so long as it doesn’t sacrifice the fantastic results I get from my current tools. I have been considering purchasing the Air Wrap but am on the fence. I see that it is not included in this post, but also have noted in posts and videos you have mentioned using the Air Wrap. In comparison to the tools that are included in this post, how does the Air Wrap compare in your opinion? Also, thank you x 1000 for the basic men’s cut tutorial. Thanks to your video, my husband’s hair looks great until he can visit his fave salon again.

Working out and hair washing? I would like to wash my hair less as i work out and shower everyday(i get pretty sweaty) i tried before but hubby said it still smelled sweaty😒 i just let it dry and then dry shampooed it. Whats the secret? My hair dresser said my hair is in pretty good condition so should i just not worry about it?

Do you have any recommendations for a shampoo/conditioner for men with thinning hair? Hubby had been using the Aveda Invati line but ready to switch it up. Thanks!!

Just have to say thank you – you have talked about the T3 Cura dryer before and I ended up purchasing it for myself when I found it discounted on Amazon (maybe 2 Christmases ago?). Best. Purchase. Ever. My hair is fine, but there’s a ton of it, naturally curly/wavy (depending on length) and this dryer smooths me out in half the time I was used to and my hair looks amazing every time. My stylist even stopped scolding me about heat styling. 🙂 GREAT recommendation.

Hi Kate,
I really enjoy your videos, blog and instagram posts. I notice you didn’t mention any root volumizer as you have in the past. Do you not use one anymore?
I could really use a suggestion.
Many thanks,
Nancy

Just got my first post-quarantine cut! Yay! I had 8 inches taken off and have a similar cut to yours and am having success getting the un-done beachy wave look. My hair is naturally straight and on the fine side but I have a lot of hair. Part way through the day my waves are kind of clumping together into one joined wave if that makes sense and sometimes fuzzy. What can I use to keep the waves more piecey and stay smooth throughout the day?

The heating element went out on my Rusk Speed Freak today (which by the way, I bought at your recommendation FOREVERRRR ago) and my first thought was, lets go see what Kate says I need this time. Now I’m trying to convince myself to bite the bullet on the T3.

Hi Kate. I’ve combed through a lot of your posts and products but I need help with finding a good heat protectant spray prior to curling my hair? I have very fine thin hair and the past 6 months I’ve been curling my hair and getting the most compliments I’ve ever received, so I also love the look but I really am damaging my ends:(. Would really appreciate your advice or recommendations for a heat protectant? Thanks so much,
Monica

I have thick hair that is slightly past my collar bone. I have been styling it with loose waves using my flat iron. Any suggestions on a styling product that smoothes the hair after and sets the waves? I usually run my fingers through it when I am done with flat iron but would like a product that defines and smoothes the waves. Thank you!

Hi! The Cura Professional Digital Ionic Hair Dryer is discontinued. Do you have an updated list of recommendations? I am considering the Dyson but I would love to get your opinion. Thank you!
