3 Essential Beauty Hacks to Get Back Into Routine

Summertime.

A season of fun, relaxation, and a slower pace.

A season also full of sun, saltwater, chlorine, heat, and travel. And those things can wreak havoc on your hair.

Have you gotten to the end of summer and thought, “What on earth has happened to my hair?!” I know I have! Despite taking pretty good care of my hair, it’s still needs a little TLC by the end of the summer.

If it feels dry to the touch, is starting to frizz, is generally lifeless, and snaps when you brush or comb through it, you may need to do a conditioning treatment. Here are a few favorites! I also shared some daily use products on this post that go beyond a 2-3 time a month deep conditioner to keep your hair feeling soft and strong.

If your hair is looking an odd shade of green, it may be time to head to the salon for a clarifying treatment. At home clarifying shampoo’s can help clean off gunk that has loaded up the hair shaft, but you may need a chemical clarifier to get chlorine and other deposits out of your hair.

If it feels extra oily at the root area, try this new product from Ouai. It’s a pre-treatment sort of thing so use it first, then follow up with a normal shampoo and conditioner!

I’ve shared a few other days I care for my hair here, and how I prep my hair at night for easy styling in the morning!

I wish I’d seen your tips back when my hair was fried in high school! It was always in the worst condition since I dyed it regularly!

I really love a mix of water and baking soda to give my hair some TLC and remove buildup. It’s makes it feel so soft too!
I’ll try one of those conditioning treatments next tome I take a bath, thanks for the finds! xAllie

Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for postnatal hair loss? It feels like it just keeps falling out and I wasn’t sure if there was some sort of treatment to help control the shed (other than continuing to take prenatal vitamins).

Hi Kate,

Do you have any tips for postpartum hair care? I had a baby a week before you this spring, and I’m dealing with a lot of hair loss. I feel like I’m having a perpetual bad hair day lately!

Ugh, my hair is shot over here too! I’ve given it a break from washing which has helped a lot but it’s just very dehydrated. Still haven’t tried Ouai – I think I’d love their stuff!

I just got the Ouai scrub – it’s sitting in my mailbox in fact-just waiting for me to go pick it up. I’ve totally been wondering if it’s worth it, but given how much I love their other products I had to try it! I’m happy to hear it got your recommendation.

Any suggestion for hair color choices for brunettes? I want to highlight or balayage my hair but have a hard time trying to find what would work best. My natural hair color is super dull brown!! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My hair is always the worst at the end of the summer too. I usually always get a fresh cut to revive it!

Wow, perfect timing!! I literally just walked in from getting my hair cut. The ends were frizzy and my hair overall just felt like straw. Ive tried a few deep conditioning products but nothing seemed to help, thus the haircut. I am definitely going to try some of your recommendation ASAP.
