My favorite places to shop for furniture and home accessories (online and in store!)

The most fun way to spice up dinnertime

from top left: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven

I’ve mentioned the renovation we’ve been doing on the house already here, and talked about it plenty on Instagram Stories, but I’m happy to report we are finished with the room, all that is left is furniture and decor! We did miss the completion date that our contractor said he would meet. . . but after hearing stories of other friends doing renovations on their homes I kind of expected that.

We wanted to see what our existing couch and chair would look like in the room so we moved that in first. As I suspected, the space is begging for a sectional to we shopped one Sunday afternoon and found a perfect one at Haverty’s. The only bad news is that it will take 3 months to arrive because we chose a dark grey fabric. I’m very anxious to finish the room so waiting on the sectional feels like a long delay, but we are using our existing furniture for now and that is just fine!

I’ll share photos and details about the other rooms in the house as they come together but today I wanted to share my favorite places to shop for furniture and home decor.

I typically like to stay on the lower end with furniture and home accessories, but I’ll invest in a piece I know that I’ll have forever. Our dining room table is from World Market (similar to this) and we bought it about 2.5 years ago. It’s still going strong and I’m sure we’ll have it for a long time.

If I have time to shop in store, I’ll head over to Target or Home Goods first. Home Goods has great rugs and great prices! I believe I’ve purchased at least 3 huge area rugs at Home Goods and will be going back for more as I need them! Beyond that, I’ll check out World Market or Hobby Lobby. I’ve bought multiple pieces of furniture from World Market and have nothing but great things to report about them. I typically stick to accessories at Hobby Lobby, from wall art to decorative accessories for tables or shelves.

I also love to shop in store at IKEA. There isn’t one near me (yet!), but there is one about 1 hour from my sister’s new home in Virginia. I’ve already stopped there on the way home from a trip once, and I’m planning on hitting it again on the way home from another weekend trip in November. You can get really cheap items from IKEA that fall apart, sure, but you can also find great pieces that cost a bit more (still IKEA prices) that will last forever. I have a tall, glass door hutch from IKEA that I built over 4 years ago that is still in perfect shape. IKEA also has great planters, home accessories, picture frames, lights, and plants (both real and fake!).

There has been an uptick in online shopping for furniture and home goods in my recent history. Part of that is thanks to Amazon Prime, but also it’s so much easier to sit at my computer and shop than actually go out and spend time looking around. I always read the reviews of products I’m considering and make sure the return policy is reasonable too!

I’ve found great furniture and rugs online at Birchlane, Joss & Main, and Wayfair. H&M also has a fun home section online with lots of great home accessories!

It’s no secret that Modsy has helped me bring rooms to life with their services. I know what I like, furniture and decor style wise, but I have a hard time visualizing it. Modsy took all the guesswork out and showed me the potential of my office and of the new family room on the first floor. I’d recommend it if you need a head start on designing a new space!

I love those stores too. I also love Crate and Barrel for classic furniture pieces that we intend to keep for decades, and Michaels and JoAnnes are great for seasonal decor.

Can you include a link to your new sectional? I have been searching for one the past few months at a reasonable price. We don’t have a Haverty’s nearby so I may need to take a drive to the Raleigh/Durham area.

Love Ikea! Assuming you still live in the Raleigh area, there’s an Ikea in Charlotte, NC. It’s closer than the Woodbridge Ikea. 🙂
