A Day to Night Holiday Hair Tutorial

Have you seen those shirts on Pinterest that say something all the lines of “all I need is coffee and mascara” or something along those lines?

My shirt, if I had the chance to make one myself, would say “all I need is volumized hair”.

I’m so excited to be sharing this tutorial with you today because I’m using T3 Micro’s Volumizing Hot Rollers Luxe and they are profoundly easy to work with. I remember attempting hot rollers in my teen years with my mom’s set from the dark ages, and it was assumed that I could secure the flaming hot roller with a metal “U” shaped hook thing.

After many finger burns later, I pretty much gave up on hot rollers as an “easy” hairstyle. And I’ve seen other rollers that have different clips, since then, but I think it’s the flocked velvet on this set that makes them so simple to use. And you won’t burn your fingers either!

In the tutorial I’ll show you how to get tons of lift at the root area, and encourage a little bend at the ends which could be worn as is during the day, and then I’ll walk you through the steps of a deceivingly simple pull-thru ponytail that looks perfectly dressed up for a holiday party should you have one on your calendar!

For the pull-thru ponytail, you’ll need a few clear elastics (I like these!) and some duckbill clips. And for the volumized locks for daytime, all you need are the T3 Volumizing Hot Rollers Luxe and a bit of hairspray for hold.

The result of the rollers was tons of lift and bounce, with the softest bend at the ends. You can control how much curl you get by choosing the heat setting and also the length of time the rollers are in your hair.

The pull-thru ponytail was soft and simple, and would pair perfectly with fancy earrings!

I haven’t used hot rollers since I was a pre-teen. The end result was very pretty. I LOVE the pull through ponytail. But how on earth do you always do your hair blind? Or do you have a hidden mirror that’s not in the shot?

I do it blind!

If only I could get that much volume and texture – so pretty!

I remember as a child my mom aways using her hair rollers on me for dance recitals. They were white rollers with the little teeth prongs on the roller. (I really hope I am explaing that right). From like the 80’s…she always told me she used them on her hair in high school.

ugh. I dreaded them.

But I love these rollers!

Beautiful! How do you secure the hair that you wrapped around the elastic at the bottom? I do this sometimes with ponytails but usually have trouble keeping the elastic hidden as the hair slips out or slides down.

I was going to ask the same question. Love this style!

Question, I follow your blog which I love and try to use you tips/tricks and info to style my own hair. My hair is fine but not thin so too much product leaves my hair flat. Ok, so I use a blow dry spray and root lifter, but not sure what to use on my hair before I curl it. If I use something that is sprayed on after drying it sticks to the curling iron/wand and makes a total mess(loose waves) I see that when you curl, it looks as if there is product in your hair to hold the curl before you shake and style. Do you have any recommendations of products to use to help my hair? Thanks so much!

I sat behind a girl in church on Sunday who has LONG gorgeous hair. Her whole high pony tail was in this pull through thing and I spent way too much time trying to figure out how the heck she did it.

There’s no way I could ever get my hair to look like that on my own using any tools, but I’ll admire yours from afar!
