Lace Up Flats

I’m a flats girl through and through. With a 1.5 and almost 3 year old to chase after, I’ve got no time to mess with pumps or even wedges these days.

And lace up flats are the perfect feminine + comfortable shoe to add to my fall wardrobe.

I scored some *very* on sale lace up flats from DSW with my sister recently that I felt good about purchasing for $25.00. I wasn’t totally sure how to wear these shoes, so I thought a $25 investment was safe in case I found them sitting in my closet versus being worn on my feet!

I’ve browsed through Pinterest and found a few trends that I thought I’d share here in case you are on the fence about a pair of lace up flats.

How to wear:

  1. Cuff your denim, even if it’s just one little roll at the bottom, or wear ankle length denim.
  2. Mix the flats with a few more masculine pieces. Or, in other words, don’t make the outfit overly feminine.
  3. Tie them in the front OR the back! When my sister and I were trying them on, she wrapped the laces around and tied them in the back and that looked really cute too!

There are a few really cute bright colored lace up flats that I’ve seen around, but I can’t help but lean towards the neutrals. The shoe is already more interesting than just a simple flat, so even in a neutral I think it’s a fresh addition to your fall wardrobe!

Do you notice the laces when you are wearing them, Kate? Are they as comfortable as normal flats?

I participated in the Spring Get Your Pretty On capsule wardrobe challenge and lace up flats were on the shopping list; I just couldn’t do it. I think they look so cute, but something about the laces makes me think they would start to bother me about 5 minutes into wearing them.

No they don’t bother me, and they are really comfortable!

I had the same question Jess! Thanks for your answer Kate! They have some cute ones at Target right now but I wasn’t sure if the laces would bug the top of my foot!

The laces don’t bother me at all, and I have thick ankles. So I think you’ll be ok!

I purchased a few pairs of these from Lane Bryant – awesome for ladies with wider feet. I got them in a colbalt blue, taupe, and black. They are so cute!

Lace up flats are so gorgeous because they give a little something extra to a casual outfit. I also like to bring them to places when I know I am going to need to change out of my heels. Love this post!

They are so pretty! I just don’t think I would like my feet feeling like they are strapped in with no way to escape 🙂 Haha. Would love to hear how you end up liking yours!!

Cute for spring and summer, but for Fall, I’d go with a pair of great loafers.

Bought a pair of these in silver at Banana Republic back in the spring and I’m so glad they’re still trending strong. They are so pretty and feminine and seem to make my foot look smaller and narrower than regular flats. The only downside is they take a few minutes to strap on my feet, but they’re worth it.

I just got a pair at Marshalls today for that same price and they are a good brand. I was a little leery about how to tie them and how and what pieces to pair them with so this post was perfect for me! 🙂

I really love this trend, I have a black pair but am looking to add a nude or leopard. They can make any outfit feel so much more stylish!

I love how the laces really dress up the look compared to normal flats. I need to head to DSW and see if I can find myself a pair!

I’ve been wanting to try this trend and even tried some on this past weekend. But, seeing as i’m pregnant and due in winter, the babe does not like when i’m bent over to tie my shoes. And then taking them off was SOO hard. I think i’ll have to wait until next spring to add to my wardrobe.

I recently bought one in black but I’d like to try some colored ones too. That’s some great tips you’ve put up there. Good job!

Ok, you may have convinced me to give these another chance. They seriously look so cute when I see them on other people, and then at at the beginning of the season I tried on a dozen kinds at DSW and just wan’t feeling them. But I also never thought to tie them in the back! That might make all the difference.
