The double braided headband (2 ways to style it!)

I’m excited about this really simple hair tutorial! The double braided headband is perfect for nearly any length of hair and is a great way to freshen up your hairstyle for spring. If you are traveling for spring break, this would be an easy no-fuss way to style your hair from day to night. I also think it could be a perfect pool-side style for wet hair too so if you try that make sure you tweet a photo to me of it!

I used the ghd Platinum flat iron in this tutorial, along with a few other ghd products, and this flat iron is really top quality. I’ve used ghd for years, their Classic was my flat iron of choice when I did hair, and I was very excited to try the Platinum earlier this year. The Platinum has been proven to reduce breakage by over 50%, which is amazing considering it’s a hot tool! When I spoke with ghd on the phone, they explained the tri-zone technology, which means there are 3 zones in each plate that heat up do you don’t scorch your hair on one specific hot zone that needs to try to spread over the entire plate. Imagine using 1 burner on your stove to boil 3 pots of water…you would have the blast that single burner. In this case, the heat is evenly spread out, so your results are smoother and more consistent.

In this video, I’ll run through curling your hair with a flat iron, adding the double braids into it, and then an alternative way to finish the style if you want to wear your hair up! I also used the ghd air hairdryer, which was a nice size and weight. Sometimes high end dryers can feel super heavy, but this one delivered on speed without the extra weight.

Do you use this flat iron to curl your hair most often or do you most often use a curling iron?

Kate says · 03.20.16

my go to is a curling iron, but I get asked from readers on how to curl with a flat iron too so I wanted to show that again in this look!

What are your thoughts on using a curling wand vs. a curling iron? I’ve been thinking about getting a curling wand, but I’m not sure and would appreciate your opinion. Thank you!

Both are great, it just really which is easier to work with and will give you the look you want? I like a barrel with a clamp, but I know a lot of people who enjoy a wand. Both a worth a try to see what you prefer!

I want an iron, whether it’s a wand or one with the clamp, that is easier to work with and will give me loose curls. I have medium length hair. What do you recommend? Thanks so much Kate!

Hi Kate. Thanks for the cute hair tutorial! I noticed you used the new t3 compact tools and the new ghd air dryer and flat iron in recent videos. I was wondering which tools you preferred?

All are great tools, the t3 tools are compact — so great for travel or “on the go” and these are good full size options!

It would be fun to do a less messy version and weave in some little seed pearls for an evening look.
