Cubicle Convos

next
Luke Turns One!

I guess in my line of work twitter is where the typical “water cooler conversations” would go down, but sometimes I wish I could just lean over and tell my cube-mate about some stuff.

So I filmed a quick little video while I imagined you were siting next to me in a cubicle office setting. I may make this a regular thing to go along with links + loves posts but I decided to go ahead and start this week off with the first round.

A few things mentioned in this edition of cubicle convos: Color Story App, Paperworks, ALT Summit, Nutribullet, VeggieTales station

shirt from j.crew and lip color MAC Flocking Fabulous

This was so cute and fun! I’m working from home today, so it was nice to have a virtual cube mate keeping me up to date on all the cool stuff. 🙂

I work at home also, and the idea of a cheese plate sounds fantastic!! I too often get sucked into not so healthy choices just because I want something quick and easy…this sounds way better. Thanks for the idea!

Reply

I agree! Cheese plate–yes please!

Katie says · 02.15.16

I work from home as well and lunch can be such a chore! I love the protein bistro boxes from Starbucks and have been prepping homemade versions for lunch on Sunday nights. Hard boiled egg, grapes, sliced apple, Justin’s almond butter packet, crackers or naan, a piece of cheese or some nuts/dried fruit. I keep them in the fridge in individual containers and they are super easy!

As the others have commented, I LOVED this!! Can’t wait for your next cubicle convo! I work remote from home four days a week and while I don’t miss being in the office, I do miss the random cubicle convos I used to have. You’re so down to earth and easy to listen to…I’m afraid I wouldn’t get any work done if we were cublice mates! Have a great day, Kate!

This post is awesome! I literally felt like responding out loud, then I realized how impossible and weird that was, lol. The Veggie Tales story is so cute and reminds me so much of my niece. She picks up EVERYTHING too, so we all have to be quite careful about what we say. We’ve had a couple of “oh crap” moments. Have a great Monday, xx!

Long time reader, first time commenter… Have you thought about adding captions for those who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing who are interested to know what you’re saying in your videos?

Love all your posts, just wish you would add captions.

Reply
Amanda says · 02.15.16

Scratch that!!! All this time I had no idea you did include captions. Apparently I have to go into YouTube to see on/off option. It’s not accessible straight off your site. Thank you!!!! Now I’m off to re-watch all your other videos ???

Love this, Kate! on the topic of smoothies, I highly recommended the book Simple Green Smoothies. Amazon Prime it to your house – you won’t be sorry. (Random side note: My dad is green-food averse and even he has been loving the smoothies from this book. So, so good, and flavor combos I might not have thought to put together myself.)

Reply
Melissa says · 02.15.16

I’m totally flashing back to my working days before I had kids. 🙂 Part of me really misses those snatches of adult conversation throughout the day!

The lunch thing: On days when I really just ain’t got time for that, I give my boys a plate of stuff like you’re talking about. Bread, cheese, apples, things I can toss on the plate and not have to prep beyond cutting it up. I love it. And they can eat it without any help whatsoever. It’s a beautiful thing. Harder when you have a baby who needs to be spoon-fed, but as they get older and start doing finger foods it gets easier.

Oh Veggie Tales. Sigh. The nostalgia.

Reply
Becky says · 02.15.16

Love, Love, LOVE it!! I work alone in my office and it gets a little too quiet and lonely sometimes! I know the feeling of craving human interaction! Please keep doing these videos! Your boys might like Psalty the singing songbook, too. (Psalty, as in Psalms!) That, more than Veggie Tales, is the soundtrack of my childhood, and it’s a great way to get the boys geared in the right direction at a young age. You can find songs and videos on youtube or you can find albums on Psalty’s website: Psalty.com.

(Is it just me, or is anyone still having trouble with your blog? It keeps causing Internet Explorer to crash or freeze . . . )

Yes Kate! I LOVE this idea! I’m home studying a lot because my university is so far away and my husband works 4am-7pm so I am forever wanting someone to chat to in my office. For lunch today I had leftovers from this disastrous chicken-quinoa skillet thing I found on Pinterest, and the rest of my family refused to eat it so I guess instead of fixing supper last night I accidentally meal-prepped myself an entire week of chicken-quinoa skillet thing. Ugh.

I gotta get back to work too.

This is so fun! I love the idea. I work from home, too, and get lonely. This was really nice (and funny!). I also drink a smoothie for breakfast each morning – I use a Ninja. For lunch, I’ve been making homemade soups lately, to beat the cold weather and get even more veggies into my diet. My favorite is tomato – I make it in the Ninja and store the leftovers in tupperware – really good!

PS – that lip color is beautiful on you! It inspired me to go put on some lipstick. I’ve been loving the Nars satin lip pencil in Rikugien (rose pink).

Hey cubie! So my cat did this funny thing on Sat. Funny to me. Not so much for her. She was playing in a big Bath and Bodyworks bag and got her little head caught in the handle, freaked out and was racing around our condo with the bag following her. Poor little thing was freaked but I couldn’t help but laugh. Lunch today was cold pizza and an apple, not the best but we were running late this morning. Have a good rest of your day!

I think you need some IRL friends. The other day I was thinking how addicted you are to social media (you are every where all the time) and now this just seals the deal. You are lonely for real interaction, and the more lonely you get, the more social media posts you do. Please try disconnecting for a few days, enjoy your family and spend some time away from the cameras.

In the non-creepiest way possible, you can totally come stay with me for alt summit. I’m about 10 minutes from where the magic happens. I’m not a blogger, so I’ve never been, but I know it’s a big deal. You definitely need to visit someday!

Veggie tale songs are so much fun. I would always turn on the classical music station when they were babies in the car. It would calm them down and make them fall asleep. As they got older we would make up stories about what may be happening in the “story”of the music. They learned to play musical instruments as they got in school. One learned the french horn and joined the band. The other learned to played the piano. To this day they appreciate classical music. Plus Mozart is supposed to help the brain develop for math. Love your video!

Aw, I love this idea! I have to say that I’m from Illinois, too, and I moved down to Alabama nearly four years ago. Even though I’ve met some wonderful people, I love your videos so much because your sense of humor reminds me of my friends back home.

Hahaha! This was great! I was cracking up through the whole Justin Bieber story. Good video. It would be fun if this became a regular segment. Totally understandable if you can’t, though! 🙂 You do so much already. I love reading and watching everything on your blog.

I had my phone right next to my laptop and Siri was activated by you saying, “Hey, Siri. Call Justin.” so my phone decided to call a random Justin.
Totally freaked me out!

If you need some great kid music, Seeds family worship music cds (all on Amazon or the website itself) is really pretty good for kids. My kid’s favorite is “the mouth speaks”.

Cute! I was kicking myself yesterday when I didn’t have my headphones to listen because I AM in a cubicle. 🙂

We have actually started making meat and cheese platters a normal thing because I can pile something on there for everyone and make it look all fancy. We started doing it and all piling together and eating off of the board and watching a movie and the kids loved it. It felt so relaxed, fun and different, and surprisingly sophisticated. One recommendation, don’t buy the pre-sliced packages of meat, get it at the deli. The quality is good and it’s way cheaper! This is probably going way too far into detail, but you’ve tapped a new love of mine, so this is what I like to put on our platters: salami, prosciutto (sometimes wrapped around melon), crackers, 2 types of cheeses, olives, sundried tomatoes, grapes, a cutie peeled and ready to snack on. It’s fun to just assemble dinner and not have to cook!

I have started doing avocado toast and hard boiled eggs. So good and keep me full til dinner. Also we do a sort of cheese plate for my kids. They call it “bunch of snacks” it’s cheese, cutie, raisins, peanut butter, ham, apple sauce. It changes but they love it because they think they got away with having snacks for lunch.

Love the cubicle convo. And cheese plates…

Funny story: I was sitting in bed watching this video and drinking my morning coffee VERY early before my kids woke up. Well apparently our voices sound quite a bit alike because when you said “hey Siri… Call Justin” my phone, which was on the nightstand nearby, got to work. I could hear it ringing but because I was only 5-6 sips into my first cup I couldn’t move fast enough to stop it from dialing. Thankfully it was calling my dermatologist and not a sleeping friend. Lol. Have a nice weekend!

Amy says · 02.19.16

So fun to listen to! I’ve also developed a rash on my wedding ring finger. If you figure out a cure, I’d love to hear it!
I like to do peanut butter & banana on toast for lunch. I have 3 little boys, so I know it can be a challenge to Feed yourself. I also will eat an apple with peanut butter sometimes.
Love your videos & reviews on products. Keep up the good work! ?

That was so much fun to watch – completely brought me back to my days at work when I used to do the same thing – peek my head over the cubicles to chat about something fun! Lol. The best part of this was that I was watching the video on my Iphone and during your Justin Bieber story when you started talking about your Iwatch and how you talk into it and say, “Hey Siri, call Justin” – the Siri on my IPhone totally came up and was like, “Okay, do you want me to call Justin Cell or Dustin…?” It was hilarious and totally weird at the same time. Haha. Can’t wait for the next cubicle convo – thanks for sharing!

I LOVE this! It really seemed like you were leaning over your work desk to tell me a quick tidbit and you had me cracking up. What nail, polish are you wearing? I’m tired of my dark colored polishes and you’ve been rocking some light toned ones. Mind doing a spring polish post?

Loved this post — I want to be your cube mate! Thanks for the great links; I signed up for the paper goods, watched the Alt Summit video with Elle Luna (yes, just a bit too in touch with the inner-child for me, but still interesting!), and downloaded the photo app. BTW, I love those single-serve ready-made salads from Costco for lunch — super fast and easy, and healthy, too! I also like the Sweet Kale/7 Super Foods Salad in a bag (in the cold room at Costco). It has lots of good stuff, a sweet dressing, and topped with dried cranberries and pumpkin seeds. I could eat that stuff all day long! (And I have to eat it for lunch cause my husband says it tastes like I dumped the clippings from the lawnmower bag in a bowl — he won’t eat it!)

Oh My Gosh this made me laugh so much! I could totally see myself doing this to a cube partner 🙂 My thoughts throughout the day are so random and all over the place too. Having someone next to me to talk about nonsense if about the only thing I miss about working in an office 🙂 I may have to share my random thoughts on my blog as well some times. Thanks for sharing!!
