Face Masks to Refresh Your Skin

How to Get Full And Soft Hair, a photo step by step

It’s a new year and lots of people are talking about the big changes they are making to better themselves in 2016. Other than eating healthy, working out, and taking more time away from social media, have you thought about your skin?

Winter can be really rough on skin, espcially those of us who suffer with very dry skin. I can’t seem to keep my skin hydrated this year!

I’ve added a weekly (or two times a week) face mask into my routine, and not only does it feel like a bit of pampering, but it usually leaves a lasting effect on my face that is more intense than what day or night cream can do.

I mentioned in December that I was using Clinique’s Even Better Dark Spot Corrector to reverse some dark spots from blemishes around my chin and mouth. This is the kind of product that takes time, so while I haven’t noticed “dramatic” changes, I can tell that those spots have lightened a tiny, tiny bit.

When I saw Clinique makes a brightening mask as a part of that same line, I had to try it. Historically I go for pore cleansing or hydrating masks, but I liked adding this new kind into the mix.

For this mask, I applied like I would apply face cream, but just went a little heavier with product. I let it sit for about 10 minutes, then grabbed a cotton pad to wipe off the excess product. There is no need to rinse your face unless you’d like to.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well this mask moisturized my face despite it being a “brightening” mask. I felt glowy and fresh afterwards. It needs to be used over time to really see results, but I’m happily adding it into the routine to hopefully brighten my face up a bit.

Nordstrom has a great selection of face masks. There is a selector tool that allows you to narrow down a mask based on your skin needs. It’s really easy to use, and also offers a huge range of products at various price points.

Have you heard of “multimasking”? It’s the idea that you can use a few different masks on different parts of your face depending on specific needs. So, for example, if your pores are clogged around your nose, but the rest of your face is really dry, use a deep-cleansing mask around your nose and a hydrating mask on the rest of your face. You don’t ever need to apply a mask to your entire face if there is only a certain place that needs it!

I did my makeup after using this mask and was blown away by the glow it left me with!

Happy masking!

Nothing beats a good pamper night once or twice a week, which isn’t complete without a face mask! This sounds lovely! x

‘multimasking’ that is… autocorrect. 🙂

What’s your favorite pore cleansing mask?

Kate-
Have you tried ELF products at Target?? I have terribly dry skin and have had great results with their daily hydration moisturizer. Plus it’s inexpensive!!

I also love Peter Thomas Roth Rose Stem Cell Bio-Repair Gel Mask. I put it in the refrigerator for a little extra cool to it.

I am 6 months pregnant and have dry, red, flaky skin on my cheeks. Any suggestions for a mask that would be good for this problem?

I fear I will be flogged for saying this since everyone seems to think masks are vitally important, but….I avoid masks because every time I try one, my fact breaks out right after. Kate, do you ever find this to be a problem for you?

I heard that the Dark Spot Corrector from Clinique’s Men’s line is much better than the women’s (faster results). I have yet to try it myself, but that’s the rumor.

I’ve suffered from acne for the past 12 years of my life and sadly have some dark spots left over- I had no idea Clinique made a mask to help correct that! I’ll have to check it out!

It is great to see an Ahava product on your list! I’ve been a fan of theirs for years. If you need a moisture boost for the skin all over your body the Ahava Liquid Salt is an incredible product!

I love face masks – I have those ones from Bobbi Brown and I love them.

I also love face masks from Michael Todd. If you haven’t, you need to try them out.
I have cleanser, moisturizer,….EVERYTHING from MT. I love their brand.

I’m kinda addicted to masks now, but mostly the sheet ones. I also like the night masks for a stronger hydration, especially in the plane or after a peel!

I need a good face mask! Unfortunately we don’t have Nordstrom here in Canada and I am looking for a budget-friendly option. Any other suggestions?

I’m Canadian too, and I also don’t want to spend a ton of money on masks. My favourite mask is from Queen Helene, available at Sally Beauty Supply, and it’s called Mint Julep Masque. It’s around $6 for a huge jar that lasts months. (http://www.sallybeauty.com/mint-julep-masque/QUEENH17,default,pd.html)

I’ve tried all the Queen Helene Masques, but I struggle with oily skin, so my favourite is Mint Julep.

Hi Kate, et. all,
I am 37 and struggling with breakouts (more than when I was a teenager). Specifically, a deep pimple on the forehead, or pimples around my lower lip and chin. I break out with products that contain benzoyl peroxide so I stick with salicylic acid. I am using Neutrogena “acne spot removal” and have also tried Origins “spot removal”…with limited success. I use a Clarisonic and “Fresh” soy facial cleanser. Welcome any thoughts or recommendations. Thank for you this blog. Its just a valuable resource to me!

Kate, have you tried any of the face masks by LUSH? Or anything from LUSH really?

No, I haven’t tried anything! The store is so overpowering to walk into that I avoid it!

Love this post!! I’ve never heard of multi-masking but it totally makes sense. Since turning 30, I feel like my skin has become my enemy! Can’t wait to give this a try. Hopefully my skin will love me for it.

Agreed! I feel like my skin is foreign to me now that I am 30. I feel like it is worse than in my teens and came out of no where!

Super glowy!!! Your skin looks gorgeous! Skin care can be so great sometimes and so frustrating at others, but it looks like you’ve come up with a pretty great regimen that works well for you!

Which one would I use to strip off dead cells? My chin, neck, and cheeks always feel/look like I need to do a sandpaper scrub!

Although I originally started following you for hairstyles, thanks for all the product reviews! I tried Kenra after reading your blog and LOVE the curl defining creme. I never liked leaving my hair naturally curly until now due to the dreaded Styling Product Crunch Factor. Turns out I CAN have soft and delicious-smelling curls!

There are lot of masks that sounds good enough to eat. But this mud masks has honey, cocoa, banana and more to moisturize, exfoliate and brighten your face. Also, the mixture left is sufficient tasty that it can be ate by any one.
