Flirty Curls

A look at David’s 2nd Birthday

It’s been awhile since I curled my hair with a 1 inch wand! I forgot how much fun it is to have bouncy ringlet curls!

I typically wear my hair in really soft waves, so this was a fun change up from the usual. In fact, I asked Justin what he thought of my hair when he returned home from work on this day. . .

“Your hair looks like that every day!”

Obviously he doesn’t appreciate the difference a 1/4 inch can make in a curling iron. 🙂

Anyway, these curls were a blast and you should wear them to a holiday party.

The makeup look I wore in this tutorial can be found here!

I used the T3 Whirl Trio with the 1 inch barrel. A great budget option would be the Hot Tools 1″ flipperless barrel.

Kierston says · 12.18.15

My husband often says when I go get my hair done,”you look the same as you did before you left”. Then other times he totally notices I did something different! Love the hair tutorial! You have featured that hot tool a couple times. I really need to look into it! Does such a great job! Also, I love the red lips and eye liner!

Karen says · 12.18.15

Great video, Kate! Thank you! you just radiate happiness and joy. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Jessica says · 12.18.15

Love this look! These are the type of curls that are easiest for me to do (I don’t know why?). Also, your makeup looks so good – you kind of look like Lauren Conrad from The Hills, etc – I think it’s the winged eyeliner 🙂

Chelsea says · 12.18.15

Your recent posts about curls are so inspiring! Can you give some advice on what size barrels are best for short bobs? My hair just barely hits my chin. If I were to invest in one size curling irons, what inch would you recommend? Thanks!

Kristen says · 12.18.15

I have the curling wand and my hair is so fine whenever I use it my hair goes back to straight in no time. Any tips on how to make the curls stay?

Dominique says · 12.18.15

Love the hair, but that lipstick is the best!! Seriously beautiful!

Beth says · 12.18.15

Very pretty and festive! You should wear bright lipstick more often. It looks great on you.

I have read your blog off and on for the past few years and only recently become a full fledged, die-hard reader. Like, I am going back and watching every hair video. (I have decided that 2016 is the year that I finally learn how to do my hair. I mean, I’m 33. It’s time.) Your videos are so helpful, and last night, I finally learned how to properly tease my hair. As a Texas gal with a similar hair texture to yours, this was a total game changer. Thanks for posting all of your incredibly helpful hair videos! And if you feel like it, feel free to check out my subscription review box blog, We’ve given you some love recently (and my mom even went down a rabbit hole of watching a ton of your videos!) and likely to give more in the future. 🙂 Merry Christmas!

Love your french “mime” look in this tutorial! I’m always afraid to wear lip color. Maybe a tutorial on that? xoxo Kayleigh

Chrissy says · 12.19.15

Beautiful! Question for you- for some reason whenever I curl my hair (with a 1″ curling iron), and then go to “rake” through it with my finger tips, it turns into a giant frizzy mess!! yours always seems to stay in cute, neat curls. Any idea what I’m doing wrong? Thanks!

Abijah Yu says · 12.19.15

Hi Kate, in this tutorial you only curl in one direction, away from your face. In other curling tutorials you mention that you alternate direction as you curl to give a fuller look. Is there a reason you did not do that this time?

Kate says · 12.19.15

With curls this small, alternating directions just isn’t necessary. They’ll almost never blend together, which is what I try to avoid when I alternate directions!

Natalie says · 12.19.15

You make it look so easy and non complicated that even I think I will be able to achieve this look! Now to find a curling wand that works for my hair type! Can’t wait to try it out. Your makeup is fabulous!

Sandy Stresewski says · 12.19.15

I really miss you in your bathroom doing your hair. Being closer to the mirror makes it easier to see and is more personal. I think things are a little to professional!

Christina says · 12.19.15

I’ve not yet watched the video but I have to comment right now how PURTY you look with this style!!! It makes you look younger too 😉

Michele O'Sullivan says · 12.19.15

Is that a new intro? I love it!!!

I was just watching some of your older, shorter-hair geared tutorials. It’s so funny how much your filming style and delivery has changed…love it all, though!

I really appreciate that you mentioned a budget friendly appliance along with what you usually use. It would be awesome to do that more often, as it’s simply not possible to have high end everything. Just a thought!, you do always let me know when to spend that little bit more, though.

Thanks for all you post!

Holly Atkinson says · 12.19.15

Gorgeous hair! Love this style and can’t wait for my hair to grow a little bit longer so that I can greet my curlers and say hello to some ringlets once more!

Lindsay says · 12.29.15

Hi Kate! Thanks for this tutorial. I am thinking about doing flirty curls for NYE, but it’s a bit adventurous for me. 🙂 I’m curious, at what temperature would you recommend I set my curling iron? My hair’s a little thicker than yours, not much. I am using a gold curling wand. Thanks again!

Em says · 01.31.16
