La Palette Nude 1 by L’Oreal Paris

Looking for a stylist!

La Palette Nude_the small things blog-1-2L’Oreal Nude 1 La Palette

I bought this pretty palette at Target the other day because it spoke to me from the shelf. It said, ” I look a lot like Urban Decay’s Naked 2 Palette, try me.”

So I did! And as it turns out, it’s a pretty good palette. Maybe a little warm for my taste, but that’s just because I’m so fair and cool toned.

So I did a couple of different looks using a few of the shades that popped out to me most and while they may not look very different from photo to photo, it confirmed to me that there are a lot of different combinations to be made with these shades. There are a lot of colors, which is fun for someone who loves to experiment with makeup, but if you want a smaller palette for just the eyes, I don’t think you can go wrong with the Naked 2 Basics palette. It’s less fussy than a palette with 10 shades, and keeps it simple if that is what you prefer.

pardon my resting angry face.

There are a million more combinations, but I liked layering these shades together. The biggest difference I have found between drugstore eyeshadows and high end eyeshadows is their pigmentation, blending ability, and lasting power. These shades blended well, but didn’t pack as much pigment or staying power as high end eyeshadows, like Mac or Urban Decay. But it’s less than half of the price of the very similar Naked 2 palette. So, it’s a judgment call if you are wavering between the two, or just simply don’t want to spend more than $16 on a eyeshadow palette. La Palette Nude 1, that I used here, gives you a lot of options, but you’ll have to wear an eyeshadow primer (this is my favorite) to make sure the shades stay put and last all day.

Do you have this palette? Are you happy with it?

My favorite palette is the urban decay naked 2. I saw this one at Sephora the other day and i kinda wanna buy it :p I think this one is simple, like, the tones are those i prefer the most : matte πŸ™‚

Reply
Wanda Tate says · 08.17.15

This palette is mostly all matte I believe. I will have to look at mine. I love the UD palettes too, the Naked palette is too shimmery for me, but the UD basic 2 is all matte and lovely. If you prefer matte shades, try the IT naturally pretty palette. they are all matte, but come across slightly satin but in a good way. but if you want any kind of pearl look it comes with a shadow that you apply with their matte shades to make them shimmery. I haven’t tried it because I am in love with their matte shades in this palette. Its soft and beautiful. Just a thought. Have a wonderful day.

IT Cosmetics has a new limited edition of Naturally Pretty on QVC right now. It’s called the Romantic Palette and I bought it because it appears rather more cool toned than Naturally Pretty. I keep swatching that one every time I go in to Ulta but it’s just too darn warm to spend $42 dollars on. I’m looking forward to having a palette full of colorful mattes, not just shades of brown.

Wanda Tate says · 08.17.15

I have this palette and I do like it very much. I have several palettes and sometimes too many choices. πŸ™‚ I have the UD basics 2 as well and you are spot on with it being more basic/less fussy and easy to use. With that being said, it is fun to mix and match other colors. I think you did a very nice job on this post with these pictures. You have a very natural yet polished look. I would be interested in seeing what other “looks” you create with this palette for inspiration. And by the way, your last picture is very nice, you don’t look angry. I see confidence. Thank you again for this blog.

Amanda Cleveland says · 08.17.15

Would you recommend the same palette for a brunette? I have a lot of natural blonde highlights so sometimes I’m called blonde.

Reply
Andrea says · 08.17.15

Such a nice, subtle look!

These are very pretty palettes and I think they work best for understated looks. If you try to do lots of layering and subtle shading they tend to look muddy. They are great if you mainly like all over washes of color or lightly contoured looks with two or three colors.

I like that there are a number of mattes, too. I think half of each palette is matte. That really increases usability in my opinion.

Less pigmented shadow is easier for many people to work with, too.

I love the way it looks in that final pic. I have the Naked 2 palette. My first thought was, will it stay put. And you answered that. I’ll tell you. I used to be makeup dumb…until I started following blogs, and realized with an eyelid primer, I could get more staying power out of my shadows. I honestly live Tartelette the most. I don’t use it daily, because as a hospice nurse, I don’t feel it’s appropriate to wear too much makeup. I love the Benefit Creaseless Shadow for my day to day.

Anyway, I do like the colors in this!

I am a brunette but I have a lot of light pale features as well. I have been tossing around the idea of the Naked 2 palette for awhile, but yeah, ouch on the sticker price. However, I don’t mind if something is gonna last me and I love it. So I guess what I am getting at is do you think the Naked 2 palette is good for my color.
Also, love your hair and shirt! (spill on where you got the shirt please) and Hair tutorial! I have been looking for a way to wear my hair straight!

Reply
Kate G says · 08.17.15

I’m a brunette with pale features as well. I have the Naked 2 Basics and it works really well for my coloring. It’s also a lot more affordable than the full Naked 2. The shadows have really great staying power, especially with a primer. It’s a great investment and I normally only buy the inexpensive drug store brands.

Reply
Kelly says · 08.17.15

Awesome! glad to know another person liked it. May just bite the bullet.

Reply
Christy says · 08.17.15

Agree, love Naked Basics, use it every day. I could never go through the Naked or Naked palettes, they will literally last forever! So not a bad investment either.

Jan Groom says · 08.22.15

What color are your eyes and skin tone?? Do you tend to be cooler or warmer palette? A lot of it depends on your eye color, skin color and what kind of brunette you actually are. I am a very fair brunette with blue eyes. These colors work well for me. Where as say a darker headed brunette with lots red in their hair would need a warmer palette. Actually as we change our hair color, we change what palettes and color charts tend to favor us as well. In the fall I tend to go to a medium brunette with the red highlights. I have shades that I wear more in those months to match that color chart. Because then I tend to look more like an autumn when actually I am summer. Have any of you noticed that?

Reply
Christen says · 08.17.15

I love the colors, but I think once you go Urban Decay you don’t go back! My next palette purchase is either UD Naked Smokey or the Tarte Showstopper!

Reply
Samantha says · 08.17.15

I just bought the Showstopper palette and I was disappointed. Not in the palette itself, but the eye shadow colors. I was looking for something I can take while traveling and this wasn’t it. It doesn’t come with a light enough eye shadow base color and all the colors look too brown on me and their is only 1 matte color and it is brown. The tartelette palette is still my favorite.

Hi Kate! I have the original Lorac Pro palette, and I have some Makeup Geek shadows. Both I reach for constantly. Amazing quality, pigmentation & wear time. I have worn Mac shadows before and liked them, but truly I think Makeup Geek is just as lovely if not more so ?

I actually really like Mabeline “The Blushed Nudes” palette. I was at Ulta deliberating over UD Naked 2 or 3 and the sales associate suggested trying the Mabeline palette. I have been very pleased, I find it’s a nice combination of matte and pigmented shades. At $12 it was worth a shot! It’s worn nicely even through the Ohio humidity this summer! Very happy with it. Love your blog, thanks for sharing this.

I do not have this particular palette. However, I do have the Naked 2 palette. After having that palette I have tried some of the lower end name brands and the only ones that I have found that tend to do the Naked palettes justice to me judging on pigment, texture, and the one that wears really well is actually the Maybelline Blushed Nudes. This palette runs about $10 and is very buttery, has good pigmentation, and wears well. Granted, I have not tried the Loreal palette and Loreal is a REALLY good brand. It is one that I have often reached for in the past. But since I have the Naked2 Palette I really do not see a need to buy a palette that is close to it. What I am looking for is some similarities to some of the seasonal palettes.

Jan says · 08.18.15

Kate,
Have you seen a fall palette that has really caught your eye? I am trying to decide on one to get for the fall. I don’t know whether to try and buy some separate colors like from Makeup Geek and add them to my palettes or just purchase a really good palette. Since the colors this fall, are colors that I REALLY like anyway, I tend to lean toward to finding a palette.

I love both the L’Oreal palettes but this one has some shimmery shades and at my age I can’t do shimmer. With CVS coupons only cost me $6.99 but it’s probably going to my daughter. Agree that UD Naked Basics is on the regular for “need to get it done” days when there’s not enough time to be creative.

I have a question about choosing the eye shadow primer. I noticed you said you use Painterly. Do you use that color because its closest to your natural lid color or because you used various shades of brown for shadow? I’ve never used an eye shadow primer, so I’m not sure if I choose one based on what color shadow I plan to use or what primer color is closest to my natural lid color. I used the Naked palette but have switched back to using blue/gray shadows. Should I buy a primer to match those colors?

Love these colors – however I’ve found there are a few things that buying cheaper brands is just not good, eyeshadow being one of them. Can you give an honest opinion as to how these shadows hold up? I’ve always bought MAC eye shadows and have always been very happy, and they stay on perfectly all day (with their primer). Do these ones actually stay on all day if you use a good primer?
Also I love your hair tutorials – they are so helpful!!
