Buy one!! best investment ever! totally worth the money, has changed my skin completely. I have dry skin thats prone to acne and it has really improved my skin. My acne heals quicker and my skin is rarely dry now.
I've had mine for 3 years and love it! The new brush heads are spendy so I go with mine a lot longer than it says to change it out. Plus I only do it in the morning not at night too. Didn't think I needed to do it at night.
I don't know if I'm posting this in the right spot but what do you have to say about BareMinerals makeup foundations? I am wanting to try them but trust your judgement and want to hear your opinions first! -Amy-
I have been using BareMinerals for a couple years now and it is my favortie foundation right now. I have in the past used many different kinds but this one is great. Its not to thick so you can hardly tell its there. Its a little pricy but they last me up to 4 months.
Thank you! I bought a starter kit but the first time I used it I think I must have used too much of the primer that came with it. It made my makeup look thick so I plan to try less or no primer. -Amy-
I really liked Bare Minerals. The only reason I switched to Mac was just to try something else and get a bit more coverage. But it's great and I would definitely consider using is again!
Love Bare Minerals, Fast to use (which is a plus) and great coverage!! (ps....love this blog!!, Just found this blog and I LOVE it!! you are too cute :) )
I would recommend going to a dermatologist before you try B.E. I thought I would be doing my skin a favor by using a more natural makeup, and I had a terrible reaction to it. My doctor told me it is a rare thing, but some people can't tolerate what's in the makeup. It basically burned my skin, and I had to go have treatment and apply a cream so that it wouldn't scar. I'm not downing the product at all, just putting this out there so people know it is possible! I would hate for more people to go through what I went through!
This happened to me as well....even tried to give a little break and try again. It caused my skin to have breakouts and a rash-like effect - due to some particle in it that comes from shells???? Went back to liquid foundation. Still love, love their makeup brushes! Have been using those for years! (A little disappointed though the foundation brush I got with the kit I recently tried actually fell apart after I washed it!!!! It was brand new with the kit from Sephora and simply fell apart. Never happened before with any makeup brushes I own.
I purchased mine about a year or so ago from QVC. I was able to do the monthly installments which made it much more affordable for me at the time. I had been on antibiotics for acne. After a few months I was able to stop taking them. It has been a wonderful tool!
Buy it at Ulta. It's the same price no matter where you buy it (149$ Macy's, Nordstom, Saphora). You'll be able to use any coupons at Ulta, You'll love it. Happy Shopping!
Kate, I know you are using Mac, but have you ever tried Smashbox foundation? I have tried their BB Cream and powder, as well as Clinique, but the do not cover enough for me. I am getting so confused.
Goodness...have you not been taught how to be polite or tactful? Keep your mean thoughts to yourself! I love Kate's tutorials and use them all of the time. Her makeup application is practical and easy to do. Keep up the good work, Kate!!
Yeah wow! If you are not a fan you can happily move along and allow others to appreciate and enjoy Kate's contributions. It may be 'honest criticism' as you say, but it's not very constructive and just comes off as mean. I enjoy the tutorials and fun/cute ideas! Keep 'em coming Kate!
Oh come on! Does something have to be sickeningly sweet or it's "mean"?? The technique is not professional & you only have to take a look @ you tube to see some real baisc make-up artist tips. It was honest, it was constructive, and maybe Kate will take some of those comments & improve! It wasn't nasty,so get over it.
Here is 'honest criticism' speaking (typing rather) solely from personal experience. Growing up I was a bit of a tom boy and had really short hair. As I got older, I decided to grow my hair out but was unable to style it. Therefore, I always had long, flat, plain hair. I watched tons of youtube videos on how to fix your hair and nothing ever seemed to help. I couldn't get my hair to do anything. One day, on pinterest, I stumbled across this blog and let me tell you I watched about twenty videos that night and the next day I tried one of the hair styles. I was so impressed at how detailed she was in her tutorials and giving little tips to get the style to work. And it actually worked for my hair. Since then, I have tried numerous hair styles and I have been able to do all of them. Maybe they are basic but Kate is not. She has changed so many peoples lives. If it's not something you can say..that she has helped you..then jump up off her blog and go elsewhere so other people can enjoy Kate's time and effort. Thank you and have a wonderful day. :)
I was not a tom boy growing up, I was actually very prissy. However, after being married 11 years and having 3 kids (all boys) I had started to let myself go. My idea of doing my hair was pulling it up into a slicked back pony tail every day. Like you, I saw Kate's blog on Pinterest and since then have been doing my hair much more often. Even on my pony tail days, I use Kate's way. She has helped me not feel like a frumpy housewife/mommy and I really appreciate it! :)
I really enjoy this blog, and I love Kate's makeup and hair tutorials.
If the people (or person) who posted as "Anonymous" dislike it so much, why do they spend thier time reading it and commenting on it? The timing of the critical remarks makes me wonder if its sour grapes by another blogger, because her Birchbox mood board was chosen and now has a Zoya nail polish named for her.
Kate! I desperately need your help! Right now I'm using just a liquid foundation with no concealer, blush, bronzer or powder. It's because I'm not sure what to use and I don't want to just buy anything. I have normal skin, just the occasional acne and I get rosy cheeks but that's about it. I use Olay facewash, but i don't use any moisturizers or anything for fear of my skin breaking out. Anyway, what I mean to be getting at is my liquid foundation is not lasting all day like I want it to and then by the end of the day all my blemishes are visible. But, I don't want to add powder and blush and bronzer and concealer and everything on top of my foundation and have my makeup looked caked on. I need products that will last all day!! Please help!
I use cliniques liquid foundation. It is kind of expensive but worth it! It is never cakes and lasts all day long! They also have other great products that are amazing!
I find that there are a couple of small tips to help your makeup last all day. First... less is more. When using makeup products on skin that has blemishes people seem to use way to much product.
To give the appearance of a clearer skin tone I do this: Start with a really good primer (Nars makes a very nice makeup primer). Allow your primer to dry and absorb and then apply your foundation, try using a foundation brush. Use very little at a time, and take your time blending your foundations very well (MAC and Estee Lauder make wonderful foundation), after you have applied your foundation then apply your concealer to under your eyes and on your blemishes. If you have oily skin a dryer concealer is great and if you have dry skin a liquid concealer is wonderful (MAC has both of these).
After your concealer is well blended apply a dusting of powder to set your makeup with a powder brush, and blend, again (MAC studio fix powder offers a tremendous amount of coverage, careful not to use too much).
Don't be afraid to use blush or bronzer, just keep the same principles in mind... Use quality products and tools. Apply makeup sparingly and take your time blending what you do put on. Also go to a makeup counter and ask them to help you pick out the best colour possible for your face makeup. Wear what they suggest into the sunlight and see if it's a good match before you buy the product.
If your skin is relatively blemish free don't even bother with the foundation just use the primer, concealer and powder etc.
If you have acne prone skin like myself, I would suggest that Cetaphil is the best cleanser for your face. It's cheap (any no name equivalent works just as well), it has no fragrance or irritating ingredients and will not dry out your skin.
If you don't need moisturizer, continue not to use it. If your skin is a little dry use it at night only when you need it.
I recently stumbled across your blog site on Facebook and became an instant fan. I normally scan over things quickly and move on, but there was something charming and personable about your site! I soon discovered that I was learning a lot about new hair styles, skin care, and all the girly things we women want to know more about. It has been a pure joy to keep up with The Small Things. I just bought a light pink Clarisonic Mia 2 today and look forward to using it along with the Clarisonic face wash (wondering how it compares to your Philosophy face wash which I have yet to try).
Hi Kate, just wanted to thank you for your great little hair tutorials. It usually takes me a little practice, but I find that the styles you have profiled are easy, classy and versatile. For a person who usually spends way too much time on her hair, I am always happy to try new things, especially things that are quick! Please keep them coming. Thanks Yas
Hi Kate, I just wanted to say I love your blog! I go on almost everyday. Your hair tutorials are so awesome and give me inspiration on fun, cute ways to do my hair. You are awesome and doing a great job!
I am wondering how often you suggest to get your hair trimmed? My hair is about 6 inches longer than yours and i want to keep the length. But, when I curl my hair it is getting frizzy on the ends from all of the split ends.I have been getting it done about every six weeks. How often should I be getting it trimmed?
Two things...I LOVE LOVE LOVE the 'Kate' polish from Zoya! My new fav color! It's such a great melon yummy color. Also I did buy the Mia 2, after I read your review. It works really great! skinstore.com has 20% off, so i got the Mia 2 for $120, which is a super great deal. It really helped my small breakouts, also I have SUPER sensitive skin, and it is very gentle. Thanks for the great blog, you are adorable!
Im wondering the same thing on where to buy the uplifting foam??? I bought chi volume booter. Im not even sure if its even close to what the uplifting foam does!!! Please help
Kate I love your blog. I stumbled across it from pintrest when searching for hair-do's that I can do while my hair is in a growth stage from short to longer hair. Well I've been hooked ever since. I am grateful to your tutorials because I am hair styled challenged. I was never able to do the hairstyles on myself which led to me pulling it all back into a ponytail in frustration until your blog. I am now attempting some cute styles and they actually came out pretty cute. So thank you for that.
Kate, I love reading your blog and have gotten some great hair and makeup ideas from it! I esp. love the daily eyeshadow tutorial! I have never been good at putting on eye makeup and this really helped guide me to put it on right. I also had been lining my eyes differently and the way you showed to do them makes my eyes look larger. I have received several compliments thanks to your guidance! Thanks!!! (By the way, I found your site through Pinterest while searching for a new hairstyle!!)
I love your blog I was wondering if you could take a look at this site and let me know if you really think this advice would work http://guruhairstyles.com/how-to-make-your-hair-grow-faster/
Really love your blog!!! Just watched your eyeshadow tutorial....what were you wearing on your lips? I have a very hard time with lip color and I loved the natural look you have! Thanks!
Just was on Pinterest today and found you on your blog then your YouTube page. LOVE it! I am going to try to work on the hair styles more and your eye makeup video. I just have a quick question what are the products you use in the video? I think I am going to go shopping this week for the products. Keep posting! (:
Hi, Kate! Quick question...what do you use for a foundation/powder? Currently I use a Mary Kay foundation with a Bare Minerals powder, but I'm looking to change that up. I was just wondering if you had any suggestions as to what to try next. Thanks!
The foundation she has posted called Benefit is AHHHHMAAAZZZIINNGG! I started using it a couple of months ago and absolutely love it. It definitely lives up to its name "flawless." At your local Sephora or Ulta Beauty Store they will match your skin with the foundation and powder. It is awesome! Goodluck!
hi, i have pretty curly hair and I am always looking for new products, but its really hard because I dont like chruchy hair!! I also have a lot of body to my hair. I life in FL so in the summer I dont get stright hair, so i want it to look fresh!! Thanks! Nicole
What brand of blush and what color do you wear? I love the brand Nars and color Orgasm, but I want something a little peach-ier for the summer! Thanks!
Kate, I just stumbled across your blog as I was browsing Pinterest, and wanted to say THANK YOU. I'm searching for hair style ideas for an upcoming wedding, and I just need to say that I am MUCH more excited about this than I was 10 minutes ago. I have VERY difficult hair that's resulted in me never really having the guts to try anything different with, and I think I've never really had the right direction. I was thinking of just adding a few curls here and there, but I just watched a few of your tutorials on Youtube, and they are so helpful and easy to follow along with. I'll be doing a few test runs this week with a few of the styles:) Also just purchased some Winks;) So, thank you for the fabulous tips, and best of luck to you- You're very talented!
So I'm incredibly greatful I stumbled across your page through Pinterest, I've been trying to grow my hair out after an Asymetrical hair cut. It hasn't been the easiest process in the world, at mid-length I always want to cut it all back off because I feel like I have NO style! Anyways, my hair is mid-length barely past my shoulders & I tried a few of your tutorials and I've never been more estatic in my life! So I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your tips!!! (& My hair thanks you as well) ;)
Kate,I saw a picture of a very cute hairstyle on Pinterst. I decided to ponder on through your page and stumbled across your blog! I absolutley LOVE your hair tutorials! Im a waitress, so i natrually need my hair out of my face. The "up-do" tutorials have helped out my 'not-so-cute', bland ponytail so much! plus, I actually just turned 15. I know (a 15 year old waitress?! Crazy) but your makeup post have helped (and your sister Lauren's) me not look like i 'caked' on my makeup so i dont look like im trying to hard! Thank You :)
Can you do a tutorial about 2nd day hair? I have curly hair and know I shouldn't wash it every. I don't know how to style it or what products to use. I feel like it looks as greasy as it feels. Thanks! love your blog!
I was looking through hair styles on Pinterest and saw some of your pictures and decided to look at your blog. I really appreciate you taking your time to go through the hair styles. I do not know how to do my hair, so this is a big help. I now need to invest in a good hair straightener and curling iron. What do you use and where can I buy them? Thanks!
Heather, Check out her FAQ section. She lists all tools and products she uses on her hair. GREAT help to me. I went a little crazy and got the curling iron, blow dryer, hair spray, volumizing foam, and so on that she likes to use. Amazon had some great prices on all the products she recommends.
Hi Kate, I normally don't post on walls, but I just wanted to thank you for your tutorials on hair and makeup. You inspired me to update my makeup stash and I started with the mac eyeshadows and primer. I LOVE the products you recommended... they make me feel so pretty! My husband in our prayers last night, even said that he was grateful for my beautiful eyes. Haha. Anyways, thanks for the time and effort you put in your blog.
Hi Kate: You are have a fantastic blog. Every day I visit and learn more and more. I too have worn the same updo or pony for years and thanks to you, I'm now more daring. I hate to say this but I copy your hair, makeup and nail colors/styles and have received so many compliments and at 46 y.o that's saying alot - so THANKS and please continue to enlighten all of us!
Hey Kate! I love your blog! I just have a random question. I am a bridesmaid in a wedding in 2 weeks and I am looking for ideas for flawless looking skin with a hint of dewy-freshness! I have been looking into highlighters but I am wondering if you have any products/hints you can share. Thank you so much!
I love this blog!!!! I enjoy trying all of the new hair and makeup tutorials. I have actually been to hair school and I was a makeup artist for a big name brand company for several years. I now work at a bank because I love the hours and it gives me more time with my family. I look at this blog every weekend to see all of the new things Kate has come up with. She has helped me with lots of different techniques that I could not figure out. Thanks Kate for all of your hard work and dedication to your blogger fans :)
What happened to your clarisonic review?
ReplyDeleteComing soon!
DeleteDo you have a post about how often you clean your make up brushes? And how?
DeleteYes! I'm looking into a clarisonic . . . I would love a review!
ReplyDeleteBuy one!! best investment ever! totally worth the money, has changed my skin completely. I have dry skin thats prone to acne and it has really improved my skin. My acne heals quicker and my skin is rarely dry now.

ReplyDelete-Amy-
I have been using BareMinerals for a couple years now and it is my favortie foundation right now. I have in the past used many different kinds but this one is great. Its not to thick so you can hardly tell its there. Its a little pricy but they last me up to 4 months.
DeleteThank you! I bought a starter kit but the first time I used it I think I must have used too much of the primer that came with it. It made my makeup look thick so I plan to try less or no primer.

I really liked Bare Minerals. The only reason I switched to Mac was just to try something else and get a bit more coverage. But it's great and I would definitely consider using is again!
Deleteabsolutely LOVE Bare Minerals - used for 14 years!
DeleteI've used B.E. for about 10 years and my skin is sooo much better. I'll never go back to liquid foundation ever again.
DeleteLove Bare Minerals, Fast to use (which is a plus) and great coverage!!
Delete(ps....love this blog!!, Just found this blog and I LOVE it!! you are too cute :) )
DeleteThis happened to me as well....even tried to give a little break and try again.
DeleteWhere is the best place to buy the Mia 2?
ReplyDeleteI purchased mine about a year or so ago from QVC. I was able to do the monthly installments which made it much more affordable for me at the time. I had been on antibiotics for acne. After a few months I was able to stop taking them. It has been a wonderful tool!
DeleteI bought mine at Ulta, so either there or Sephora--both have great return policies.
DeleteBuy it at Ulta. It's the same price no matter where you buy it (149$ Macy's, Nordstom, Saphora). You'll be able to use any coupons at Ulta, You'll love it. Happy Shopping!
ReplyDeleteI am using the Oil of Olay brush that is similar to the Clarisonic, and I like it alot. My face is so smooth after using it.
ReplyDeleteI love my Oil of Olay, too!!! I could tell a huge difference in the cleanliness and smoothness of my skin instantaneously!!!
DeleteKate,
ReplyDeleteI know you are using Mac, but have you ever tried Smashbox foundation? I have tried their BB Cream and powder, as well as Clinique, but the do not cover enough for me. I am getting so confused.
I haven't tried their foundation, no. Mac has great foundations with a variety of coverage--try some of their products.

It's a good idea to get a trim every 5-6 weeks, but if you are noticing more split ends than usual bump it up to 4 weeks.

ReplyDeleteP.S. - Your blog is lovely!!
Kate,
ReplyDeleteI just stumbled across your blog as I was browsing Pinterest, and wanted to say THANK YOU.
(& My hair thanks you as well) ;)
ReplyDeleteKate,I saw a picture of a very cute hairstyle on Pinterst.
ReplyDeleteCan you do a tutorial about 2nd day hair? I have curly hair and know I shouldn't wash it every. I don't know how to style it or what products to use. I feel like it looks as greasy as it feels. Thanks! love your blog!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say I just came across your blog yesterday and LOVE your hairstyle suggestions, and fun blog...keep up the great job!!
ReplyDeleteI was looking through hair styles on Pinterest and saw some of your pictures and decided to look at your blog. I really appreciate you taking your time to go through the hair styles. I do not know how to do my hair, so this is a big help. I now need to invest in a good hair straightener and curling iron. What do you use and where can I buy them? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHeather,
DeleteCheck out her FAQ section. She lists all tools and products she uses on her hair. GREAT help to me. I went a little crazy and got the curling iron, blow dryer, hair spray, volumizing foam, and so on that she likes to use. Amazon had some great prices on all the products she recommends.
Hey This website is fabulous. But could some of you be really nice and check out mine? Its purenaturals.weebly.com
ReplyDeleteHi Kate, I normally don't post on walls, but I just wanted to thank you for your tutorials on hair and makeup.
ReplyDeleteHi Kate: You are have a fantastic blog.
ReplyDeleteHey Kate! I love your blog! I just have a random question. I am a bridesmaid in a wedding in 2 weeks and I am looking for ideas for flawless looking skin with a hint of dewy-freshness! I have been looking into highlighters but I am wondering if you have any products/hints you can share. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteWhat is your favorite hair flat iron? I've been looking for the perfect one, and need some recommendations.
ReplyDeleteI love this blog!!!!
