My 3 Most Used Cream Eyeshadows

links + small things

I love the ease and simplicity of cream eyeshadow. You can wear it alone, you can wear it as a base for other eyeshadows to build on top of, you can blend with a brush, or with your fingers. . . it’s just an easy makeup product to work with and the results are long-lasting and rich!

I’ve used a handful of different cream eyeshadows over the years, and these 3 are the ones I tend to reach for the most as of late. I still love the MAC Paint Pots, which were a makeup essential for me many years ago, but I’m preferring the application of a stick instead of a pot these days.

I prefer to use a brush to blend out the cream shadow, but your fingers would work just fine too. A flat brush like this one from Sephora would be a great option if you are looking for something.

From the left: Bare Minerals Gen Nude in “Turned Up”, Laura Mercier in “Caramel”, and Laura Mercier in “Au Natural”

Laura Mercier Au Natural makes my blue eyes pop. It’s a beautiful cool taupe shade that would work on a lot of different skin tones. Laura Mercier in Caramel is a classic warm brown, which is another easy to wear shade that can be work alone or as a base with a darker chocolate brown in the crease.

And Bare Minerals in “Turned Up” is pretty similar to Mac’s Paint Pot in Painterly, it’s just a little thinner consistency and blends a little easier as well. I’ve worn this on its own plenty of times or treated it as a “base” for other eyeshadows to wear on top.

If you’ve read this post and still have zero interest in cream eyeshadow, a powder eyeshadow palette I’ve been loving lately is the Natasha Denona Mini Glam Palette.

I’ve actually never used a cream eyeshadow before, but they sound great! Thanks for the recommendations too! ❤️✨

Helpful! Do you have an application tutorial for everyday eyeshadow? Any tips on picking the right colors for your skin tone?

I received the Bobbi Brown cream stick eyeshadow mini set (from Nordstrom’s) for my bday, and it was life changing. Then you rave so much about Laura Mercier Au Natural shade I had to have it, so I bought the LM Mini Stargazer Caviar Stick Quartet holiday set from Sephora and they are amazing!

I haven’t been one to do any eyeshadow or eye anything besides mascara—unless I’m attending an event—for probably the last two years, and now I’m doing eye makeup like 4 days a week, I’m loving it so much!
Also the MAC powder shadows I was using made my eyelids feel so stiff and almost itchy, I think that was why I avoided it. With BB and LM cream stick shadows I literally don’t even feel like there’s anything on my eye. I’m going to give my powder shadows to my teenage stepdaughters that’s how confident I am that I’ll never return from the caviar sticks! Thanks so much for changing my opinion on finding an easy and comfortable way of doing my eyes!!

I love Laura Mercier’s Caviar sticks, but all of mine have packaging issues (the stick falls out, the cap has a crack…). I also love Julep’s shadow sticks (I order on Amazon). Putty is a light neutral base shade, Stone is a cool grey/beige that also works as a subtle liner, and Pearl is a not too shimmery highlight. They are a little more “moist” and sheer, compared to Caviar sticks, so my lids need a primer first (especially with all the steam coming up from my mask).

I’ve always wanted to try cream shadow’s but I have always been intimidated to try…just like liquid liner (I just can’t keep my hand steady). Do you get better wear from the liquid shadows as opposed to powder ones?

Another great post ! After seeing your tutorial on Cream shadows I had to try and I Love using them –
I do have a question though – what is a good primer to use ? – I am currently using Mac Painterly but I really don’t think it works on my lids as a good base for making your cream shadows look good all day ~~
